  1. Just wait until they sign him up for a player-coach role with the next contract.

Edit: And 26, I feel like I'm ruining the joke, but an extension doesn't hit the cap until NEXT YEAR when the new contract starts up.

True.....but the point was to draw out the ire of Angry 11.

  2. Anyone want to guess whether this topic makes it to three years?

Murray has no worries about getting to the floor because of the multi-year extension Stafford is going to get before October. Your STH $$ hard at work. ducking now....

  3. Here is Cory Pronman's Top Ten

    1. Connor McDavid, C, Erie (OHL)

    2. Jack Eichel, C, Boston College (Hockey East)

    3. Oliver Kylington, D, Farjestad (SHL)

    4. Noah Hanifin, D, USNTDP (USHL)

    5. Travis Konecny, C, Ottawa (OHL)

    6. Pavel Zacha, LW, Libersch (Czech Extraliga)

    7. Mathew Barzal, C, Seattle (WHL)

    8. Colin White, C, USNTDP (USHL)

    9. Daniel Sprong, RW, Charlottetown (QMJHL)

    10. Dylan Strome, C, Erie (OHL)

FYI, it's BU for Eichel instead of BC.

Pronman says these four guys are elite prospects:

    1. Connor McDavid, C, Erie (OHL)

There is no debate here. None. At all. McDavid is the best prospect since Sidney Crosby, although he's not at the same level Crosby was at the same age. His skating, hands, and hockey sense are all elite, and his hockey IQ could be generational, as he simply looks like a unique player in terms of how he processes the game. It will take a very bad draft season -- coupled with someone else taking a big step forward -- for Connor to not end the year as my No. 1 prospect.

    2. Jack Eichel, C, Boston University (Hockey East)

Jack's skill level is outstanding, as he can make opponents look foolish regularly. He's a very good skater as well to couple with his elite hands and good understanding of how to create offense. He's currently a fixture as the second best prospect in this class, but he's a late 1996 birth date, so we'll see how he looks in a year from now when the younger players get their very critical 17-year-old seasons going.

    3. Oliver Kylington, D, Farjestad (SHL)

A player of Swedish and Eritrean decent, Kylington is the best Swedish defense prospect since Victor Hedman. He is the youngest player to ever score a goal in the history of Sweden's top division. He's a dynamic defenseman, with plus-plus skating and instincts who can make plays at both ends, but is probably tilted towards offense.

    4. Noah Hanifin, D, USNTDP (USHL)

Hanifin had a better IIHF under-18 tournament than both Jack Eichel and Jacob Trouba did at the same age -- although slightly below Seth Jones' tournament -- after an extremely impressive 16-year-old season. He's pretty physically developed for his age (6-foot-2, 201 pounds) and has high-end mobility, and very good puck-moving skills. The offensive tools and size makes for a very appealing package in this defenseman.

  4. I could also see Murray move Enroth. I like Enroth, and I think he deserves a full year as the starter here. If he plays well and you still want to move him then you get actual value in a year. BUT he could possibly want to give one of Hackett/Lieuwen a shot this year which would likely single out Enroth to go.

Murray doesn't like small goaltenders, so Enroth could be very well be gone at some juncture. IIRC this is the last year of Neuvirth's contract. so he could be moved too.

  5. More like "lost his job to Lieuwen in Rochester."

Between Enroth, Neuvirth, Lieuwen, Makarov, Ullmark, and Hackett, something has to give.

It eventually will, but Ullmark is in Europe for another year. The Sabres are also affiliated with Elmira, so they'll have one of these guys (among Hackett, Lieuwen, and Makarov) in the ECHL this year too.

  6. Good. Cut out the dead weight. McBain is terrible and I don't see a future on this team for Conacher. I think they'll try to move Hackett (not sure if there will be any takers).

Seems a lot more guys than normal were not qualified by their teams as RFAs. It'll make for an interesting free agency period, that's for sure!

I'm sure the Sabres like Hackett much more than you seem to think:

    @SabresProspects

No shock seeing Hackett qualified. Challenged by Lieuwen in Roch but looked better in NHL duty. Old school style, i.e. non-robot.

  7. @BuffNewsVogl

Sabres GM Tim Murray looking for older, character guys for roster. Says this free agent crop has plenty if that.

GM Tim Murray says again he has had talks with agents for Steve Ott and Matt Moulson. Doesn't know if Sabres are 1st on their list or 20th

Sabres GM Tim Murray says he'll be offering one- or two-year deals because he doesn't want prospects to be blocked by aging vets.
