  1. SABRES SIGN MESZAROS TO ONE-YEAR CONTRACT

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 1, 2014) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed defenseman Andrej Meszaros to a one-year contract.

     

    Meszaros (6'2", 223 lbs., 10/13/85), a nine-year NHL veteran, joins the Sabres after finishing the 2013-14 season with the Boston Bruins. Prior to being traded to the Bruins in March 2014, Meszaros played parts of four seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he recorded 17 points (5+12) in 38 games in 2013-14. With the Bruins, he appeared in 12 regular-season games, registering five points (2+3), and four Stanley Cup playoff games, adding two assists.

     

    Drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Meszaros has appeared in 585 career NHL games, tallying 224 points (56+168) and 421 penalty minutes while playing for Ottawa (2005-06 – 2007-08), Tampa Bay (2008-09 – 2009-10), Philadelphia (2010-11 – 2013-14) and Boston (2013-14).

     

    A native of Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia, Meszaros has also played for Team Slovakia at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

  2. SABRES SIGN GIONTA TO THREE-YEAR CONTRACT

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 1, 2014) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed forward Brian Gionta to a three-year contract.

     

    Gionta (5'7", 176 lbs., 1/18/79), a 12-year NHL veteran, has spent the past five seasons playing for the Montreal Canadiens, serving as the team’s captain since the 2010-11 season. Prior to the Canadiens, Gionta played seven seasons with the New Jersey Devils, including the 2002-03 Stanley Cup-winning Devils squad. With the Canadiens in 2013-14, he totaled 40 points (18+22) through 81 regular-season games played and added seven points (1+6) in 17 playoff games.

     

    In his 12 NHL seasons, Gionta has amassed 485 points (249+236) in 776 regular-season games. He has also recorded 45 game-winning goals, 74 power-play goals and a plus-65 rating. He has appeared in 112 playoff games, registering 68 points (32+36). In the 2005-06 season, Gionta set the Devils franchise record for goals in a season with 48.

     

    A native of Rochester, N.Y., Gionta was drafted by the Devils in the third round (82nd overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He played four seasons at Boston College (1997-98 – 2000-01), captaining the Eagles to a national championship in 2000-01.

  3. SABRES SIGN McCORMICK TO MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 1, 2014) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced that the team has signed forward Cody McCormick to a multi-year contract.

     

    McCormick (6'2", 224 lbs., 4/18/83) returns to Buffalo for his fifth season with the Sabres after finishing the 2013-14 season with 14 games as a member of the Minnesota Wild. McCormick played in 14 regular-season games with the Wild in 2013-14 and 13 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In his time with the Sabres, the London, Ontario native appeared in 168 regular-season games, totaling 29 points (10+19) and 253 penalty minutes.

     

    In the course of his nine-season NHL career, McCormick has recorded 61 points (20+41) and 510 penalty minutes in 372 regular-season games. In 27 playoff games, he has tallied five points (2+3) and 37 penalty minutes.

  4. SABRES SIGN MOULSON TO MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 1, 2014) — The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed forward Matt Moulson to a multi-year contract.

     

    Moulson (6’1″, 200 lbs., 11/1/83) re-joins the Sabres after finishing the 2013-14 season with 13 points (6+7) in 20 regular-season games and three points (1+3) in 10 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as a member of the Minnesota Wild.

     

    Originally acquired by the Sabres on Oct. 27, 2013 in a trade with the New York Islanders, Moulson registered 29 points (11+18) in 44 games with the Sabres in the 2013-14 season, before being traded to the Wild along with Cody McCormick in exchange for Torrey Mitchell and two draft picks. He led the Sabres in both goals and points at the time of the trade.

     

    A native of North York, Ontario, Moulson was selected by Pittsburgh in the ninth round (263rd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut with Los Angeles in 2007-08. In 397 regular-season games in seven seasons spent with the Kings, Islanders, Sabres and Wild, Moulson has recorded 275 points (141+134), adding six points (3+3) in 16 playoff games. Moulson ranks 13th among NHL players with 135 goals since his first full NHL season in 2009-10 and has scored 30 goals three times in his five full NHL seasons.
