  1. Yeah, I know... it just gets a little old after 12 years!

My friend lives in NC and he imported a snow shovel when he moved down there... His neighbors look at him in disbelief... Heck, I have some neighbors up here look at my snow shovel in disbelief! The one guy down the street is from MS, said he is moving back there when he retires.

  2. Those morons blamed the Coast Guard for their situation.

    Go ahead.

Blame the shifting winds, the glaring sun, the lake effect.

Blame global warming and Mother Nature.

Heck, go ahead and blame the walleye.

Blame everything under the sun and the sun. Just don't blame the Coast Guard.

That's what some ice fishermen are doing.

The Coast Guard and local fire departments rescued some 130 fishermen stranded on a floating island of ice in Lake Erie on Saturday. The rescuers plucked stranded anglers from the ice floe by lowering baskets from helicopters and by sending air boats to reach them.

There's a lot of blame to go around, but none of it should be dumped on the Coast Guard. They should be cheered as heroes in this drama.

Some fishermen blame a Coast Guard cutter for causing the ice to break away. The Coast Guard says the water in that area was too shallow for the cutter.

Some fishermen blame the Coast Guard for not putting up warning signs.

"The sun was out and it was 60 degrees -- that is your sign," Petty Officer William Mitchell told a reporter.

    http://www.cleveland.com/brett/blog/index....on_a_60deg.html

That is classic (blue part) what the Coastie Petty said to the reporter!

These people (one's blaming the USCG) are maroons (even in the literal sense! :D )!

At work there was a small recreational vessel that broke down in front of a 6 barge tow (about 9,000 ton of product bearing down on them)... I kept on asking them if they were broken down... Not a peep or wave from them... I thought they were gonna move... Just phucking around like most of them do in the face of certain danger... :wallbash: :wallbash: Till the tow started laying on his whistle (repeatedly to signified danger)... I finally go to them on the lower lock guidewall and started to go ballistic on them (I am not a saint! ;) )... The guy replied (he was holding a beer): "What do you want me to do?" I said: "First thing sir is to put down the beer!" I was ready to evacuate him off onto the guidewall in case the tow hit the his small vessel or made a pancake out of it against the wall, but another recreation boat came in and tossed him a quick line and pulled him and his vessel from danger (the tow was already backing down and trying to stop it's momentum).

  3. You ought to hear the a$$holes here in Atlanta do that....

"It's going to be unbearably cold tomorrow, a low of 17 and a high of 34. Treacherous. Severe! Don't stand outside! Keep your stove going! Painful! Close the schools!"

    Shut up, tool.

Not defending them down south, but it is kind of big deal down there... Don't they only bury the water lines a little below the ground? I would take things could freeze easily??

  4. Yeah, it has been...as of yesterday we were 15" over our normal snowfall for January, and they said we've only had something like 5 days without some form of precip since the beginning of December. Not to mention these brutally cold temps.

I don't mind the warnings if you're going to come close and are not inflating your numbers. Just be somewhat accurate. BTW, the guy who made the 4-9" prediction is supposed to be "Cleveland's only lake effect snow-trained meteorologist" (whatever that is). He's also from Buffalo and his first gig was at R-News in Rochester.

It is amazing... With all the cold, they say Lake Erie is not quite frozen yet... Still leading to LE snow... You'd think the Lake Enhancement would be shut off? Go figure.

It is so bad here that we haven't locked a boat in almost a week... It is just too thick to bust through even with the steel barges. I remember winters where we barely had skim ice form during the winter and had bass fisherman going out in January.

  5. How about last week here in the Cleveland area? We have four local stations - for Saturday, three had forecast 1-3", mostly in the snow belt; the fourth, the sensationalist "Action News" forecasts 4-9, no distinction between the snow belt and the rest of the viewing area.

We got 1" here, the most anyone got from that "storm" was...wait for it....wait for it....around 3", in the snow belt.

I know what you mean... They were saying "blizzard" here once they latch on to the warnings that were issued for Western Illinois, Iowa and points beyond.

    <_<

It has been a hard winter so far... Just went back to WNY last weekend and the snow totals seem to be very high... Really prime skiing in the Southern Tier. It was crazy driving on the Indiana Toll road last Friday... Not a cloud in the sky... Noon and it was still -20 actual temp... Black ice everywhere! I knew it was going to be cold, but you have to factor in that at that temp salt does not work and everything freezes!

  6. Oh and another thing, I hate weathermen who say their is a winter warning advisory for 2-4 inches of snow sending the populous into a frenzy and cancelling EVERYTHING yet not a single friggin' drop of snow comes. Damn that felt good.

Hey... 2-4 inches a day for 2 weeks adds up! That's 28-56 inches over that span.

    ;) ;)

Oh, wait... You meant just 2-4 inches total.

  7. People who have fire hydrants or drains near their property and don't shovel them out!

Where is civic pride?... Oh, and getting people to not be slobs when setting their garbage out on garbage day. Wanna know how someone lives? Take a gander on garbage day.

    Phucking Bohemians... ;)

  8. http://mysite.verizon.net/jim2wr/id184.html

Interesting read on the subject that I came across. I suppose it makes sense. It just has to be taken to the molecular level. I'm surprised that it is as big of a difference as their numbers claim. Very interesting.

Asphalt does have more "give." Heck the chains on my old snowblower were digging into my asphalt driveway... Same thing when I went to jack up my old truck... I used a floor jack with smaller wheels, the wheels started to leave marks!

Ya... It is Friday, so me complaining about my asphalt driveway doesn't count... I guess the mods are sleeping! :nana:

  9. You know, every time you mention that, I think to myself.... "now that's freaking cool."

Kinda like being a firehouse at times... Has a lot of down time... Yet, steady work... Like tonight, quite as a church mouse on the radio and things are starting to freeze (kinda early)...

    ^^ Sorta a complaint? ;)

  10. I heard that!

I work in a call center for Roadside Assistance and I gotta tell ya, people can be some rude, demanding b*tch*s!! It's like walking into a pizza joint and screaming your order at the top of your lungs while throwing in some F bombs.... you're begging for a cheese and spit pizza. Why can't people demonstrate some form of respectability?? My employees take way too much abuse from people.

I'm lucky enough to be a Supervisor, so god bless you when you ask to speak to me, because I'm not held to the same requirements as my employees, and I WILL make sure our service provider takes his/her sweet a** time getting to you......especially if you were dumb enough to lock your keys in the car or if you're to whimpy to change your own tire you :censored:

Sorry, I'm done now...... oh and :censored: you Tallinder...

Exactly. I am a lock and dam operator... Summer is nothing but pleasure boats and booze... You want to act rude? We can all spend a lot of quality time hanging out together. Cut off a 700' x 70' tow boat and want to share the lock chamber with him?  Wake the other boaters? Funny how people get the message without even to hand out a single citation.

  11. Sorry for being the Cassandra here... But, I fear the exact opposite! Boston should be Smokin'...

    :bag:

Can I be the official Sabre "reverse curse" person?...

I thought Boston would be smokin' after last night's pasting... But, never thought Pole Smokin'...

Believe it or not, I can root for the Habs and Otters... But, the Leafs and B's will always be homos! :D

  12. i'm listening online so i have no idea. He got a 10 minute, so you know he must have done something MUCH worse than checking someone headfirst into the boards from behind.

What does that mean? Would he have to sit out some games after they review it?

  13. The B's d-men really left the goalies out to dry tonight. Toivonen replaced Thomas and both played at about the same level (Thomas - 3 G on 15 shots; Toivonen - 3 G on 14 shots). Hannu was supposed to get the start in Buffalo according to the press. So if we throw in a mixed up goalie situation, a bad loss, late night travel, second game in 2 nights, the B's total defensive performance, and Corp's personal guarentee for victory, I think this could be a great setup for bounce back game at home. Then again, I've been proven wrong in most of those situations, except the last. :)

Sorry for being the Cassandra here... But, I fear the exact opposite! Boston should be Smokin'...

    :bag:

  14. Agreed...that tying goal was the first one that has really bothered me.

That being said, I am sold - this team needs to get much tougher, both physically and mentally, before we can consider them a Cup contender...I think it's time to pull the trigger, and start upgrading this lineup.

I think Lindy needs to go with a two-fold approach...start with a healthy scratch or two, and also leak a trade rumor or two to the News reporters that the Sabres are looking to deal to upgrade certain areas...make the boys a little uncomfortable. Then if they don't respond, trade their ...

Ya... Right, then the petulant pussies will revolt and where will that leave us? Duplicating the Maple Leafs when the set they record of wins to start the season, ONLY TO MISS THE PLAYOFF'S...

I fear, IMO, this team is a lot more mentally fragile than we think! :(

  15. THe whole idea of a mid-season NHL All-Star game is absurd... Just imagine if someone gets hurt... Turns an ankle or what not?

How many stars does BFLO have in it... The Sabres Cup run could be seriously tested if say Miller breaks his leg or something...

Just let them skate, let everything go by you and the highest score win...

Isn't it basically a non-checking game (the All-Star)? JUst imagine how the Sabres would roll in this kind of environment!

  16. Relax everyone! Sure a point would have been nice and shouldn't compare to other teams... BFLO is still 2nd in the league... Sure a pt. down on the streaking the Pred... And streaking is the word for a team BFLO throttled minus HT... BUT... Even know it was a "rough" Jan. to this point... BFLO is still 5-5-1 in the month...

Not bad for a mid-season "slump"... .500 hockey with your best D-man getting healthy and some other nagging little injuries...

Would have been nice to get the pt... Again, relax... Like one caller said yesterday, this is the way the Sabres were winning to start the season... As they did yesterday against the 'Nucks...

Live by the "sword", die by the "sword!"... :D

Today they died... Yesterday they lived!... :D

  17. Man that was quite a ride!

That reminded me a little of what we all loved earlier in the year---no matter how, just find a way to win it...that PK in OT was unbelievable---players throwing themselves all over the place trying to block shots and get the puck out---that was a horrible play by Spacek to give them the PP, but that's another story...

Looks like the key to them finding a way to win is just giving effort--they were all over Vancouver in the 3rd period...

Overall nice game, they definitely could have won by a lot more with all the chances they had...

Unfortuntately, for this team... Effort means riding into town (the playoffs) on a banged up, frothing horse... This time it was Novotny... Is it bad luck or what, they play all effort and get hurt in the process?... It HAS to be in their heads... Trying to ride this baby without having to give it full throttle at the risk of blowing a piston!

Sorry for the dumbass analogies... :D

  18. Kind of makes you wonder why they schedule an 8:00 game when they know they have to travel right after. Back to backs are tough enough as it is. That extra hour just makes it worse.

Montreal is a "puddle jump" from BFLO... I don't agree though, but they probably do it for the people on Vancouver Island (more so than mainland BC and the city of Vancouver) and people in the rest of the PT zone... At 8:00 the game starts there at 5:00... Just as people are getting off of work... Would be kind of funky to start the game at 4:00 PT???

  19. No argument here, hoplesly. Not speaking as a Sabres homer, but I really thought Miller should have gotten consideration as the no. 1 star, even with the loss - but I would have been OK with him no. 2 and THomas no. 1.

    Savard? 1 G in the 1st period, -1, that's a no. 1 star game?

    Exactly...

And the goal (Savard) came on the power play...
