Miles Wood got an albatross of a contract for a guy in his position; I liked him in NJ but the contract he got was absurd

I don't know the details of his contract, but I do like his game. He is the type of player the Sabres could use. There is just no toughness throughout the organization. Anton Wahlberg looks like he could be the real deal, but he needs a few years.

  2. Seeing how they didn't immediately name Paetsch or Prospal the next Amerks coach....yet, I wonder if there are any names people would think of. I can think of a few, but the only problem is, how many want to actually become a head coach.

Local boys, Ryan Callahan or Brian Gionta. Would Mike Peca leave the Rangers to take an AHL head coaching job? (I highly doubt it). What's Jim Hofford up to these days? He was selling insurance last I knew. Marty Biron? Andrew Peters would be fun. He would at least leave the bench and get into a fight.

Just throwing darts. And I'm sure someone I've never heard of will come in.

Kid is tough as nails. I would also love Sam Bennett. The interview he did with TNT after the game yesterday was great. I wish they would've picked up Buffalo native Miles Wood, but apparently he's too tough for what the Sabres are looking for.

  4. C-ya Colorado. They got some hard ***** to overcome. If Dallas wins the Cup, I'll barf. Lindy couldn't make it happen there with a very talented team. Did Adams really do any research when he said we wanna keep Appert in Rochester and we're gonna hire a head coach with NHL experience. 24 hours later Lindy Ruff is hired and a few days later they promote Appert. Smh

Sorry but if you watch any of their road games you will see they have the largest fan contingent at games of any NHL team (aside from when Leaf or Hab fans attend Sabres games.

I even run into Bruins fans out here in BC all the time and they are public enemy number one after the 2011 cup. I have yet to see a Sabres jersey anywhere in the lower mainland. . maybe they are hiding.

And they're also one of the mosted hated teams in the NHL. The only reason they show well is because they're an original 6 team. Same goes for Detroit, Chicago, Montreal, Toronto and the Rangers. People had very few choices. Rangers fans are close to outnumbering Canes fans in Carolina.

I dated some chick known as Hot Box.

We're going way off the rails here. But I went to school and worked with a girl named Kelley Fox. And I feel bad saying this, because we are good friends, but she was called Smelley Box.

    I'm such an ass, lol

I like to listen to WGR too, and this is pretty bad, but what other options do they have, it's the doldrums of the Buffalo off-season. It's better than golf or fantasy talk they dribble on about at times.

The other day I was listening to one of the replays of Jeremy and Joe, and all they talked about for the first segment was about toll booths. Jeremy's memories of throwing the coins into the baskets. It was just horrible radio. Although, they did find out that there is still a "basket" toll booth somewhere in West Virginia. Somehow, that doesn't surprise me.

    Toronto hates Boston.

Also, maybe what Sam Bennett did to one if the dirtiest players in the league was also ignored. I loved it. I figured Sam would've gotten 20 games for knocking a Bruin silly. Boston tried to goon it up, and they haven't won since. Hopefully times are changing for that entiled city.

And that's why he gets 1 game.  But Soucy is already in the process of giving McJesus a shot when Connor gets whiplashed into him.  Honestly, at least 9 times out of 10, the shot to the back when he's not anticipating it at all is going to be the more dangerous hit.  And, as stated earlier, without it, the shot from Soucy is harmless.  (Btw, the hit from behind is SUPPOSED to be a MAJOR and a Game.  Zadorov is the one that should've been catching supplemental discipline.  My 2 cents, ymmv.)

Might go back and watch the end of the game, because am curious about what exactly McDavid did to get Soucy to give him the love tap on the shin pads, the blindside shot from Zadorov, and the crosscheck from Soucy.  Guys on the team that just won the game don't normally randomly start attacking an opponent when the horn sounds.

Connor instigated the whole thing with a two handed chop at Soucy's knees. But the NHL ignored that part.

A buddy couldn't use his tix, so got gifted a pair Thursday night.  Got a good mean at the Dinosaur then headed over.

Not one to typically blame a loss on the refs, but they definitely affected the play of the game if not the outcome itself.

The ref was the only person in the building (including the Crunch players) that thought the puck was in the net for Syracuse's 1st goal.  Would like to have seen a replay to see what the ref thought he saw, but it was only shown once in the building and very quickly at that.  That it took 10 minutes for them to decide they couldn't prove the puck wasn't in the net would seem to be telling.

Get that with the Crunch skater getting tangled up with the Amerk D man that the 2nd goal wasn't going to come back, but still not sure how getting checked AWAY from Levi caused the Crunch to land on top of Levi.  That one was bad luck/timing.

Still not sure why 46 decided that Richards goal that would've gotten the Amerks on the board was kicked in.  It looked good right in front of us and couldn't see a kicking motion on the 1 replay they showed either.

But flip any one of those 3 plays and the Amerks aren't pressing late in the 3rd to give up the 3 on 1 that turned into the Syracuse insurance goal.

No idea how Davies getting crunched away from the puck wasn't a major much less considered clean by 46 who was looking right at the play as it happened right in front of him.  Inconsistent calls all game long, refs losing sight of the puck on one of the few times the Amerks did generate pressure near the 'Cuse net, again no idea how 46 couldn't see the puck and let his partner know it was loose, because sitting 100' behind him it was clear from our seats the puck was still loose.

The linesmen didn't have a much better night.

Thought Johnson looked good, but on the 2 on 1 that turned into the winning goal he looked completely lost trying to defend it.

Wahlberg and Novikov were noticeably bigger than their teammates.  Kulich put 2 shots just wide from poor angles but both had the goalie beat could he have been just a smidge more accurate.  Rosen, surprisingly, was actually throwing some hits, including one just inside the blue line that was reshown a period later as the hit of the game.

Amerks really had a hard time getting the puck to the net, as demonstrated by having only 15 shots when they started pulling the goalie with ~4 minutes left.

As for the thunder sticks, a kid working for the Amerks started tossing a bunch into the crowd with about 12 minutes left to play in the 3rd.  But he only distributed ~40 of them.  Don't know if anybody else was handing them out besides just that one employee.

The band they had playing for the pregame was decent.  Played some Dead, Skynyrd, Tom Petty, and the Goos.

Can somebody please explain how "Proud to be Pesky" is a good motto/rallying cry for a professional sports team?  Also, missing the logic behind handing out 5,000 RED rally towels and some RED placards on "white out the rink" night.  Wouldn't be surprised if it turned out those were the brainchild of the same guy that came up with the Sabres BS hats.

I agree with pretty much everything you posted. I went to talk with my buddy during the 1st intermission to get his take on that first Crunch goal. He said they weren't sure if the puck went in the net. Like you said, one crappy replay on the scoreboard. But....when I got home, they showed it on the news, so I watched it in super slo-mo. You could barely see the puck, but it did go in and it was much clearer seeing it come out. But 10 mins for that review was ridiculous.

The officials were trash. I was told that Syracuse had like 10 more PP's than the Amerks the whole series. I'm too lazy to go look it up. It true, that's insane. Just like the Panthers/Bruins disparity in PPs.

When I went to grab my red towel I asked the kid handing them out, I said what's with the red? It's a white out, Syracuse is wearing white, Rochester is wearing blue and you're giving out red towels?? He said, we all agreed that it made no sense. He said nothing was coordinated. I was glad I had that towel though, because as per usual, the bathrooms ran out of paper towels before the 1st period ended.

Just for some perspective, the Amerks ended the regular season .611, tied for 7th overall in the AHL. They played at a .731 (17-5-2-2) pace since March 1. Losing a Game 5 isn't a reason to blow it all up.

Haven't been here in a few days. I didn't mean blow it all up. I mean, they need a kick in the pants. I'm hoping Lindy is the man for the job. This is yet to be seen, obviously. But, I mean, Appert can only help improve the Sabres PP, right? It'd be hard to make it worse.

Were you really at the game, or just watching on TV?

There were almost nobody with signs. Any time anyone tried to get a “Let’s Go Amerks” chant going, it went nowhere. They handed out those “bamba sticks” and almost nobody even used them. I’ve been going to Amerks playoffs games since the 80’s, and this was the lamest crowd I’ve ever seen for an important playoff game.

The most animated the crowd got was “Refs You Suck,” which was warranted. The boys were not on their game tonight, and possibly a better crowd could have inspired them.

I think maybe you drank too much. They handed out those air sticks last on Sunday April 28th. Last night they handed out the red Pesky towels.

I've been going to games since the 70's if you wanna play the age game. And I'm pretty sure I was there seeing how I have season tickets. The crowd was just fine. The team gave them nothing to cheer about. They came out flat. That's not the crowd's fault. Almost 11,000 fans and you come out and play like that??? That's not the fans. Seth Appert is another softy that will never get it done. Not to mention, Syracuse is built like a playoff team. The Amerks are not. Just like the Sabres.

I know it's easy to criticize the Ruff hire but he is the first real NHL coach since himself so if you want to stay a fan you have to take that hope. He did pretty well with NJ when they had some goaltending. I think he understands the current game pretty well.

Honestly if Ruff doesn't work out what's left? Nothing but a Pegula sale and that likely won't happen.

I still have hope, and actually the most hope I've had since Ruff was last here. I really hope the game hasn't passed him by. But when Adams said, I'm not bringing Appert up, I'm looking for a HC with NHL experience. Last person I thought of was Lindy Ruff. He obviously didn't look too hard. But I'm still here, have always loved Lindy, and we'll just wait and see how it plays out. I'm hoping for the best.

BTW, does Lindy still have a house in Buffalo? I thought he still lived there in the off-seasson.
