This seems like the best thread to drop this in.  Is this guy one of y'all?  I like it.  I like his conclusion that this team is more clutch.

Interesting video. I assumed he was a Sabres fan because of the topic and his clothing, but at the end he said that he is always asked what teams he roots for and Buffalo is middle of the road. He doesn't love or hate them.

So I assume he wears whatever jersey of team he is talking about? I noticed he had some more jerseys from different teams in the background.

I don't know if that was a soft goal. Unfortunate for sure but he saw the play behind the net and picked a post, unfortunately it was the wrong one and he couldn't get back fast enough. Pick the right post or get some help from the d slowing that player down and he makes that save.

The soft goals that lehner let in were almost always soft wristers or snap shots from a guy coming down the wing. Our D guy would play the pass and leave Lehner for the shot and whoops back of the net.

Now 100% I agree with the mentality, not just with the net minders but with the team. That 2nd Sharks goal would have instantly visibly demoralized the team. This year and especially on this stretch they seem to get...fiesty is the best word I can come up with. They know they can score and they did generate 2-3 chances when the game was 2-2.

    Cardiac kids for sure.

The ironic thing is that he did get back to the correct post. He had his skate against the post, but the puck slid through the small gap below the blade. Pretty bad luck, if you ask me.

I just wish they cared as much about that as they do if Jack flinches when they fake the puck drop as if the players are 5 years old or four legged animals

Yeah, what the hell was that? 90% of the time I don't understand why they are throwing guys out of the face off. I've just decided the players must be insulting the ref's mother each time.

Agreed, but ticky tack stuff late in the game that throws a wrench in the flow of it looks really bad when three blatant trips go unnoticed earlier on. Those could have ended the game at 4-1 too. But the NHL wants the invisible hand making their product great, which is dumb because the players are good enough to do it on their own.

True. There were some blatant penalties missed.

IMO the Sabres played great with a lead tonight. Not their fault "close game narratives" matter more than what the teams do in battle against each other.

Dumb penalty by Rodriguez almost cost them the game. There really was no reason for that penalty. If it wasn't for that the game probably would have ended 2-1.

Not wrong. I doubt the word "tank" was ever used, but I am sure they thought about it and wanted it.

I suspect when JBot was hired he laid out a multi year plan and first year was identify the problems, learn the strengths and weaknesses of the existing players, eliminate problems and rebuild the structure (including the farm system).

Second year was likely build a new era around Eichel and a more balanced line up. Possibly challenge for the playoffs if all goes well. I am sure we are ahead of schedule.

Playoffs may only have been 3rd year of the plan that builds from Rochester and the draft.

    Something like that anyway.

People seem to forget that these new coaches come with a multi-year plan and that the Pegulas know and have signed off on the plan. Both the Bills and the Sabres are on schedule, I think (the Bills making the playoffs last year was just a bonus).

Couple times they were looking for the fancy play. Eichel coughing up a breakaway instead of shooting it. Seems his mentality is too focused on drawing defenders close hoping it leaves someone open. Guy has great hands and killer shot. Wish he would shoot it a little more instead of passing. I’m sure the balance will come.

On a lighter note I was on pins and needles. Didn’t want the streak to end on my first GDT. I think I will leave it to the pros (WILDCARD) for a while.

Yes, he did wait a little too long a few times. Sometimes you just have to take the shot. You're not always going to get the perfect play or perfect angle.

I'm not sure he'll be able to sustain his current pace throughout the entire season.    He seems to get really juiced up for games, his post game interviews sound like his mind is going 100mph.     Maybe why he's been a career backup to date.    I have concerns with his mental stamina.... goaltending is 90% between the ears.

    This is a tremendous reach.

I guess that depends on your opinion of his value to the Bills.

His value has been pretty well established in his time with Buffalo. He's been an elite running back and is the only legitimate offensive weapon the team has. He's also a captain.

I get the people who want to plan for the future, but a 4th or 5th round pick is not going to make or break this franchise. You might as well keep the elite player.

    My issues with trading McCoy:

    1. 45 carries spread over 4 games is not a large enough data set to make a determination on McCoy's current ability. He's been averaging 3.8 yards per carry while injured, behind perhaps the worst OL in the league, and up against defenses that have been stacking the line because they do not fear a rookie QB throwing to inarguably the worst WR corps in the NFL.

    2. Neither Ivory nor Murphy can replace what McCoy brings to the offense. Ivory is a completely different type of RB (old school north-south power back), and Murphy so far appears to be not nearly as good against defenses in the regular season as he is against defenses during the preseason.

    3. Three fellow future Hall of Fame RB's older than McCoy are still getting it done in the NFL as feature backs: Peterson, Lynch, and Gore.

    4. Perhaps the most important aspect to this season is the development of Josh Allen. Not only is McCoy the best playmaker on the offense, but he appears to be developing good locker room chemistry with Allen. It makes more sense to make an honest effort to establish a running game this season and relieve some of the pressure on Allen in having to win games through the air.

    5. Rumors have the Eagles not interested in offering more than a 5th round draft pick for McCoy. This is quite simply not a high enough pick to justify losing McCoy.

    6. The extra cap space is not at all needed. Beane will probably not get anywhere close to spending up to the current $90+ million cap space limit for 2019.

    7. Six weeks into the season, the Bills could realistically be tied for first place in the division upon completing what many consider to be the toughest part of their schedule. Deshaun Watson is day-to-day with a chest injury. The Pats play the Chiefs on Sunday. The Dolphins play the Bears. The Buffalo defense is trending toward "elite" status and is already top-10 in several important statistical categories despite that disastrous start to the season. Buffalo's special teams feature the best kicker in the NFL. Like SwampD said, it is the nature of many Buffalo sports fans to always be thinking about building for a more hopeful future rather than living in the present moment and focusing on winning now. It's a mindset that has been molded in part by a 17-year NFL playoff drought and a 7+ year NHL playoff drought. But it's one that needs to stop. Franchise rebuilding projects need not be based on stockpiling super-high draft picks over geological timespans. If Beane, McDermott, JB, Housley, and the Pegulas really want to talk about changing locker room cultures...start by winning games and raising expectations.

My issue with trading McCoy is that the return for a 30 year old running back is sure to be lackluster. I would do it for a 2nd round pick (and then hopefully we IMMEDIATELY use that pick to trade for a WR), but I doubt we'll even get a 3rd for him. If we are talking about a 4th or 5th round pick, clearly his value is greater to the team if he stays.

    Yes.

You can continue to ignore the body of evidence that is the history of how the NHL operates or not.  It doesn't matter to me.  This is not my opinion, this is what happens. The business aspects of handling roster assets often interfere with what the "BEST" line up is on the ice.

Arguing with me will not change that.

If that is the culture of the NHL, that needs to change. Winning should always be the highest priority, regardless of what players you are using.
