I didn't mind the Goathead. They definitely modeled the color scheme after Adelphia Cable 100%. But it was way better than the BuffASlug, I'm sure we can all agree.

The color change and rebrand was done under the Knox ownership and stewardship, the fact that the next owners company used those colors was coincidence.

As a partial defence, I ran into Jack a few times outside.  One time, he was visiting kids in the hospital when my niece and nephew were there.  He seemed to care about their plights and was glad that he could help brighten their lives.  He might be like that about hockey, but outside of hockey, he seemed really nice.

I do like to think the time he's given to Roswell and Oishei are genuine.

Sadly Jack’s failures here belong to one person and that is Jack Eichel.

    Fixed it for ya.

In seven years as a professional athlete he's not matured or attempted to be a better person or leader in the locker room. This is all about quality of character, not about what the organization did or didn't do.  The real Jack was on full display for everyone to see, the selfish petulant child who didn't get his way.

  4. I'd read somewhere, can't recall where, that this was a "proven system"... maybe those were RK's words. Can anyone name a specific time, team or where this system has worked?  because it seems like it's set up for failure.  All of this also verifies my notion that he was trying to plug the players into a system and not playing to their strengths. You could see it in the lack of creativity, they looked tentative, knowing if one dominoe fell then that was it.

This is a strange take.  He has been in the NHL for several years already.  Something is different this year.

Maybe strange to you  but it's what i see when I've watched him since entering the NHL.  Has he ever really taken over and been the preeminent player like Crosby, McDavid, McKinnon or heck Pastarnak?  No, because he's, pun intended, just skating by.  It's a lot like the Sabres organization, doing just enough to get by.Mediocrity reigns.

Like i said, just my opinion, I think he's a Lollygagger.

  6. Totally my opinion, but Jack reminds me of someone who has always had the game come easy for him. Always the best and most talented growing up, through college, the kind of player who excelled on minimal effort.  Say, like someone who's smart enough to not study and till ace the test. Now, he's in the NHL and he's no longer the best player. The work ethic and ability to overcome adversity isn't there because he's never had to face it.  He just expects to cruise and everything will go his way as it always has. You're in the big leagues now, time to get your big boy breezers on, dig deep and find the heart and desire to lead and be better.  Eichel is this generations Rick Nash.

Does this mean the 50th anniversary gold thirds are dead?   Those were gorgeous, would be a shame to kick those to the curb for the butter knives.

They're dead, it was a one and done jersey for the 50th season.  It was confirmed during the Return To Royal week.

The St. Louis Blues weren't named after the color? 😮    Whatever might they have been LITERALLY named after?  The quarter note & stanza from the base logo don't provide a clue as to what it might be.  🤔  Please enlighten us.

Okay Capt. Sarcasm -  then you should realize that it's fine for them to use red and not blue just because of the name. You may not like how it looks but there's nothing unironic about it.

One team already had done that, and it was the Los Angeles Kings.  It wasn't different, it wasn't new, it was imitative, and it was and is a crime against hockey sweaters.

True.  One caveat is that the Kings did not use sublimation for the "Los Angeles" on the hem, so for that the Sabres get half a point.

Yeah.  Agree that the Sabres ended up middle of the pack w/ these.

Would be very disappointed if they came up with something as dull as Detroit, TB, & the Aisles pulled.  The B's going yellow wasn't particularly inspired either.

Glad that TO screwed it up.  Winnipeg & Hartford did too, IMHO.  And the Ducks might be the absolute worst.

Surprised, but don't really like Moe-ray-all's nor the Rags efforts either.  And the irony of the Blues going red should be lost.

The Kings purple works.  The Yotes, not so much.  Maybe those look better in a peyote induced haze.

The Avs, BJ's, & Wild's sweaters really worked.

Liked most of the rest.  Have to relook at a couple others like the Nucks & Joisey to decide if they work or not.

The Blues are not named after the color. A team name doesn't and should't dictate what color they should wear, not everything needs to be literal.

The city flag of St. Louis is red, so this makes perfect sense.

  11. Why do you think it would be not allowed? Because it’s pink or because it’s not in the teams color palette?  If a team has a valid reason, story and purpose for doing that, the NHL will support it. And ultimately teams can do what they want, the NHL can’t tell them no you can’t wear pink (or whatever color it might be).

  12. There are no “loopholes” because there are no rules that a team can’t use a color that isn’t in their palette. The Islanders first use of black third jersey was literally just black for black sake. There was no reason for it. Their second black jersey, black and white one was because they moved to Barclays Center and they did a Brooklyn inspired/nets jersey. It has nothing to do with the NHL shield colors.  Same goes for the Panthers using powder blue, it did not come from the European patch. There’s no way a team can have a jersey ready that quick because of a patch they wore in the first game of the year. But if you’re looking for examples of teams wearing a color that is not in their style sheet, then the Rangers navy liberty is the prime example. Also to someone else’s point, Colorado has never had navy in their uniform, Until they unveiled a navy third jersey.  Yes some of these are extensions colors, so the Rangers using navy, yes it’s in the blue family. So in that way it’s a safe, it’s not going to alienate their fans because it’s still somewhat familiar. Unlike the Islanders who came out with a black jersey and everyone was like what the hell is that?

If the Chicago Blackhawks wanted to come out with a pink jersey they could absolutely do it, there is no rule against it.

If that is the case, the rule has been changed.  Any idea when it changed?  Was it with the new Adidas contract and reintroduction of 3rds after Adidas' 1st season w/ the NHL?

The way the rules were through at least the '90's & the '00's, ALL 3rds had to be in the colors of the logos &/or the primary sweaters.  Teams could change shading a smidge, but they couldn't go completely outside their existing color palate.   If the rule has been changed, would be really interested in seeing what it now is.  (Couldn't find links to the current standards; would appreciate seeing them if you do have a link.  And wasted WAY too much time trying to find them.)

And a 3rd uni being in the current colors does not rule out the 'Nucks wearing the skate sweaters in black, red, & gold as those are "vintage" or "alternate" unis which don't follow the same guidelines as 3rds do.

Lastly, though you say there's no color requirements, ottomh can't come up with a single "3rd" that was a different color from those used in the current unis/logos.  Do you know of any that violated what had been that rule?  Thanks.

This isn't something that you're going to find online or in the board of governor bylaws, it just is what it is. They are unwritten "rules" but nonetheless, the guidelines by the league dictates the usage of thirds, and specialty jerseys. As far as I've ever know, there has never been a "rule" about colors having to be something in a teams current color palette. I think it's a misconception they couldn't because teams just always defaulted to the unused color in their palette for thirds. Red or gold for Sabres, Black for Philly, Red for Wild, Orange for Ducks etc...

    That's correct about the 'Nucks.

The Rangers used navy for the Liberty and that wasn't a color they'd ever worn or in their stylesheets at the time.  Panthers had the powder blue 3rd for a while. Toronto with their St. Pats jerseys.

  14. That is incorrect. There are no color rules that apply to the third jersey or throwback programs. If the Canucks wanted to wear the black skate as 3rd jersey, they can.

A third jersey has a three year 15 games a year commitment.

A throwback or anniversary jersey is a one year commitment with number of games ranging from 1-?  Depending on what the team negotiates with the league.
