  1. 3 hours ago, That Aud Smell said:

McCoy’s former girlfriend has sued him and her alleged assailant for her injuries suffered in that home invasion incident.

This development seems inconsistent with the existence of a robust ongoing criminal investigation. @Eleven: Nah?

No because the civil complaint doesn't rest on the theory mccoy was responsible for the attack, but rather that he breached his duty to her by installing a security system  in the home but not providing her access to it (nonsense).  So they are independent of one another.  The complaint is very problematic to the ex though.

  2. A deep draft is all the more reason not to trade up within the 2nd round! The player we traded up to 37 for is unlikely to provide meaningfully more value to the team than the one we could have gotten by staying at 44; the same holds true for the bottom of the 2nd round versus the middle of the 3rd round. NFL teams, and many fans, drastically overestimate their ability to be better at drafting than other teams...that getting their guy is worth trading for because their guy is notably more likely to have a successful career. But the evidence, of which this is only one small part, doesn't bear that out. It's sort of like stock traders or mutual fund managers thinking they can beat the market with their unique insight, only to be routinely beat by index funds.

Though I enjoy snarking about the genius label that Belichick enjoys among pundits, he's made a killing by taking advantage of other teams mistakenly believing their guys have significantly less risk of busting than equivalent alternatives--he consistently trades back, accumulating picks, increasing team depth by having more chances to find useful players in the middle of the draft.

I guess I'll just disagree, as everything i read about this draft was that is was deep through the second (though like you said that is more like mid 3rd).  But we used our 5th rounders to move up. 5th rounders are truly a crapshoot and rarely turn into anything.

But anyways, statistics are one thing, individual results are another.  If our two second rounders turn out to be good, then it was a great move and they were right.  If they dont turn out to be anything better than what was picked later, then they follow the trend of not making the right move.

But its individual results, not statistics that end up mattering.  And each draft has a ton of examples of good trades and moving up.  So calling the coach an idiot for targeting two players they likely could not have gotten at their other draft picks, just because the chances are they are wrong, is silly imo.

But still.  We went into the draft with 7 picks I believe.  We are leaving with 6 picks, but that was with an extra one being made in the second.  Oh and we  also got a first rounder for next year.  I think it was great and it wasn't idiotic.

  3. Someone needs to get them a book on the value of mid-round picks.

Can you stop calling second rounders "mid-round picks?"  You are absolutely right, mid-round picks are a crap shoot.  Hence them trading up into the second round using some of the 5th rounders

You know better than to think all draft picks after the first are a total crap shoot.  If that's the case we should trade our second and third for a bunch of 4ths and 5ths each year.

Also this draft was billed as having higher quality than normal in the second round.

  4. Any player of that magnitude would have been hyped like Vesey, Schultz, or Dekeyser.

A couple years ago several posters wanted to sign Troy Stecher who was a middling college free agent. He is looking like a solid player for the canucks and their fans seem to think the way he is playing this season is a lock for the top 4 for years to come.

  5. Cause you're just repeating the same points. That roster has absolutely no bearing on this one, they're like two guys left from it. Your point is such a major roster overhaul from such a scorched roster shouldn't be expected so soon. But it has

    .

Just because you expect doesn't really mean anything. Expecting much more than this after a major roster overhaul would be pretty spectacular.

  6. Your rookies will not be fully up to snuff after one year in the NHL, especially coming into the ###### show the Sabres were a couple years ago.

Even someone like Risto has no freaking support. I hope we really address the D this year.

But back to the topic: if you were going to truly gut the team and rebuild, then the timing was fine. Expecting anything other than this after only a couple of years was a pipe dream. The better question was to tank or not. We could have done a miniature rebuilding keeping some vets like Toronto did, or did what nfreeman suggested. There were lots of options. Who knows what was the right one. Maybe the old core would have never achieved anything. Maybe this new core has the potential to be one of the all time greats?

We should be a playoff team this year. The organization and coaching staff themselves explicitly stated such

Well no convincing you lol. All I can say is look at the roster from 2013-2014 and says ith a straight face that will turn into a no brainer playoff team in three years with major injuries to their top offensive threats and a freak injury to a top 4 d man. I'm sure Toronto would be in a playoff spot if Matthews missed a quarter of the season, JVR missed a good chunk of time, and Gardner hit a door and wasn't the same all season.

This roster has no room for major injuries. It had major injuries

  7. I agree the coaching sucks. I'm just pointing out thinking this team would be anything more than a bubble playoff team two years after getting eichel is crazy talk. And we are right on track to be a bubble playoff team this year with this exact roster considering the injuries and coaching.

Murray has done fine. Seriously go look at the roster in the 2013-2014 season to see what he had. You all should act in amazement to see players like ROR and Kane just appear on the team randomly.

Murray needs to continue to improve the roster but getting top 4 dmen and building a bottom 6 and depth takes time unfortunalty, especially when you start with crap.

  8. Toronto is one year out and look where they are

Toronto and buffalo rebuilds are not comparable. One team completely gutted it's team, one didn't. They had holdovers like JVR, Kadri, Komorov, Gardner, bosak who are actually good and contributing. That includes 3 of their top 5 point getters in their 2012 season. We have holdovers like Ennis and Foligno? I think we have *two* players from our 2012 team. That is insane. In 2013 we added McCabe and girgensons and deslauriers.

I wish people understood the scope of the rebuild. We essentially looked like an expansion team at one point with a good prospect pool and extra draft picks. That takes more than a year or two to come out of.

  9. This whole thing is somewhat disingenuous. It wasn't a year end Highlight real. It was a Jets/Bills primer to get people excited about Sunday's game. A game in which Tyrod isn't playing.

Does anyone really think he will be erased from the actual 2016 Bills Highlight video?

All this faux outrage really is ridiculous.

Not to mention anyone who thinks someone like Whaley has anything to do with a marketing video needs to get real

  10. The subject line... when has this ever been not true?

Where do these up and comers disappear to?

Actually a lot of our depth picks of the past 5 years until recently have been on forwards. Jake McCabe was picked in the 2nd in 2012 however. He's come pretty far in 4 years.

Just to illustrate, here are our picks on D in rounds 2 and 3:

    2009: McNabb (starting in LA)

    2010: Mackenzie, Leduc (busts)

    2011: 0

    2012: McCabe (hit)

    2013: 0

    2014: Martin (bust)

    2015: Guhle

    2016: Fitzgerald

  11. Hey all,

I have been a lifelong sabres and bills fan because my entire family is from buffalo.  But I have never lived in the area, until next month when I'm making the move.  So I had some questions I hope some of my fellow sabres-fans can help me out with.

    1.  What are the best neighborhoods

    2.  What are some of your favorite restaurants

    3.  Best winter activities?

    4.  What are your thoughts on politics, trump, and fracking?
