Lazar 1st round, 17th overall pick in 2013.

Krebs 1st round, 17th overall pick in 2019.

If that's not enough for you, both players 6 feet tall, both listed as centre/wing (one right one left but still), both small town western Canada boys, both considered leaders as prospects. So it's pretty good reference point for draft expectations as we are all familiar with Curtis.

    Still bewildering?

    A compelling list of comparable’s

    Got any on ice comparisons?

If the Bills win the Superbowl he probably won't walk.  He'll gladly sign as a backup stud to try to win another one.

Maybe he would sign if the Bills get to the SB, but don't win, to exact revenge.

If he goes at the end of the season the Bills will have to figure something out, which is what I suspect will happen.

I'd think he'd want to start somewhere else, no? He's young and capable. Look, I'd love to lock him up longer term....for reasonable dollars (higher end perhaps, so more expensive).....I just don't see him resigning himself as backup at this point in his career. He wants to get back in the saddle.

Here it is for me, It's JA or bust to win it all.

Of course they'll "figure something out". They're going to have to. I'd like to have additional 1st rounder while they're doing just that.

I get your insurance take. I really do. If he wasn't under contract for just this year, we wouldn't even have this debate.

    Go Bills!!

Hopefully MT doesn’t play any games, but QBs get hurt, especially mobile ones like JA. He’s a great insurance policy to have on a team that could be contending for the SB.

Lock him up longer term if he's that valuable.

Very likely not, but it's possible.  A great backup saved the day on January 3, 1993, so it does happen.  MT gives the Bills that chance.  Some other dude?  Probably not.  I would not trade him.  This is the year the Bills have to go for the juggler any way they can.

What's the plan after Mitch walks? We're gonna contend for years to come. Again, Reich was with us throughout the run.

We had reich long term. MT we do not. Trading MT doesn't mean we're not going for the "juggler".

If he's all that re-sign him. Again, I do it only for a first which I understand probably wouldn't happen.

Trading the best backup in the league at the most important position in football, on a Super Bowl contending team, for a future late first rounder?

Only on a Sabres message board would fans rather collect first round draft picks than win games.

Tell me. How many games will MT play? Are the Bills closing shop after this season? You do realize he walks after this season. Who's your back up then?

For a first, any first, I'd roll the dice. You're telling me MT is gonna save the day?

I don't think he wants to be locked up.  I think he wants to be a starter somewhere next year, and I also think he will be a starter somewhere next year.

    No argument here. Completely agree.

The question is, would you trade him now if offered a 1st?

I'd be happy keeping him around if he's fine being relegated to backup on a *fingers crossed* perennial contender. He presumably has his eyes set on being a starter somewhere.

If he's open to this, which I doubt, we'd be fortunate to have his services longer term. One year? I'll roll the dice and acquire the first if offered.

    To the bold ...

He is the insurance policy.  Frank to Jim.  He will most liley play.  Josh will miss some time.  The Bills will be going for it this year regardless of trading him.  They will have an easier time going for it this year if they do not trade him.

    Josh WILL miss time?

If this is the assumption every year then I strongly suggest we attempt to lock up MT as I mentioned.

Yes he’ll probably be here one year  but we are trying to win it all this year. Getting Mitch is part of that strategy.  He was brought in as insurance for Allen so that we can winning in case, G-d forbid, Allen gets hurt.  It’s especially important for running/mobile QBs.

Don’t forget we’ll be much tighter to the cap when Allen’s contract kicks in next season.  This is the window to win it all.

When we acquired MT, my first thought was Beane would flip him to someone desperate enough before the season started.

Plus, if he's that valuable then maybe we should consider extending his stay. THAT would be strategy. Of course, I suspect Mitch has his eyes set on a starting gig.

I think we can agree MT is the crown jewel of back ups.

The more I think of it, attempt to lock him up or trade for a 1st (which I would require) if some team came asking.

That's fine.  The Bills need to go for it this year.  This guy helps in that.  If he leaves for nothing after this season so be it.

No help if he doesn't play. Trading him means we're not going for it?

Do the Bills get to one of their Super Bowls without Frank Reich?  Do the Eagles or Giants win Super Bowls without Foles or Hosteller?  We finally have a capable backup who fits the system and he should trade him for futures? The future is now.

Mitch's future with Buffalo is a cup of coffee.

If someone offers a first. Take it.

Not if he quits on the team and just shows up to fulfill his contract but doesn't care, doesn't try, etc. and don't tell me he's a professional and wouldn't do that, because I think he could. You want to risk that?

I have a feeling his heart isn't in it. Yes, we have leverage but a lot a good that does if he's checked out. I just don't see a scenario where he can buy in and be a part of the solution.

As someone suffering from CIRS myself, this sure hits home.  Good luck Mr. Towes, it is a difficult illness to battle but there is hope with the right treatment.  Glad to read he’s back on the ice and hopefully this announcement will bring more awareness and research into CIRS.

Best of health to you both.
