Darcy made reference in his presser (twice, if I'm not mistaken) to the attraction of acquiring the first rounder now as an asset he could use later to trade for a player.
Miller and the Islanders first could be an enticing package for someone.
Wouldn't surprise me if he's had talks where a mid-range first may be the missing link.
I will be absolutely stunned if Miller is still here by December and I believe it's coming sooner.
I think Miller is here at least through the Olympics. If he ends up being the USA goalie and plays close to the level he did last time I think that only increases his trade value. Also allows Sabres to sell a ton of Miller team USA jerseys down at the store. Lots of free advertising.

This year is shot. They are so bad that "tanking" isn't necessary. My point in all of this is that ownership accepts it. All it does is give DR a free pass. My entire bitch with this entire situation is that DR brought us to this level. Being allowed to try to fix it is my problem. I think all of us would have an entire new level of enthusiasm if somebody else was put in charge.
I know this is redundant. Just listen to the fans once. We are demanding change. We don't deserve this. Tanking or no tanking.

That's not including Grigorenko or any return on other players moved this season. I think we're going to be fine. It's just going to really suck for the foreseeable future.
I have no problem with the honesty saying it's a rebuild, but how can they keep Darcy in charge of the mess that he created? As a fan, it's as insulting as it gets.

Before i jumped on site tonight I was actually thinking about this same topic. I am in my late 40s so except for the first couple years I pretty much remember all of them. This is by far the worst Sabres squad ever. I will be surprised if this team gets to double digit wins. The worst part for me as a fan is the team is unwatchable and there really isn't much I can hang my hat on to be upbeat about. There is some talent on this team, but its obvious to me that Rolston is in way over his head. Darcy just sucks and that he is still here reafirms my belief that the plan all along for this year was to be so bad that we secure the first pick. No guarantees there either though because of lottery. This all just sucks.

Someone has to be the contrarian on this, so I'll step forward.

I wan't decisive decision making, aka, leadership from the bench boss to the ice.
If you can't/don't want to make a tough decision, split the baby.
If this was such a good thing to do, why aren't there 60 co-captains in the league.

The co-captain thing doesn't bother me at all, but I think the home/road thing is dumb.

Don't just look at the price of the house. You need to seriously consider the taxes too. Where I live, I pay almost as much in taxes as I do for my mortgage which is crazy. Would you rather have a $90,000 house where the taxes are $3,000/ year vs a house that is $80,000 but the taxes are 4,500 a year?
