  1. I’ll say this, he articulated the moves and the freeing up cap space, very well. He explained what could have happened had they not made more room as some team would’ve hooped them with a Bo offer sheet. Now they have the space to take it in the chin if need be and quite possibly have another team set his next contract. If he’s not offer sheeted he can try to sign him longer term and is happy to keep him. It’s definitely showed some foresight which I’m not so sure he’s used in the past.

    His JBD explanation was excellent.

Not a lot of teams got better yesterday. I wouldn’t say Buffalo worse. They definitely got harder to play against, on paper. Hopefully he can swing a few more moves to help this team get further along. Defensively we are better. That’s not a bad thing.

  2. Getting a big rhd who likes to use his size and is a huge organizational need, and a two way player with good pedigree and likes to be a pain to play against, over a brooding (and if Peters and Rivet are right, a party animal) bad body language, one way player who had a fantastic end to the season. (7 of his last 11 goals came in losses)

Some are too enamored with how many goals and assists JJ had. He’s  good player but we got better imo by becoming harder to play against and a change in culture. More moves come and this will look even better.

and that was Selanne's rookie year.

Mogilny was in a odd predicament if my memory serves me. Wasn’t that the year that no matter what happened in the final 10-15 games the Sabres were too far behind to catch team ahead but also far ahead of the team behind them that they couldn’t be caught? (I just checked and they were 0-7 in April, and finished 16 behind Montreal and 28 ahead of Hartford)

I wondered how that affected his/their play? Like did he/they let up and if so did it adversely affect his final tally? By looking at the way they limped in to the playoffs I’d say it most certainly had a negative effect. I do recall Selanne scored on final day and that later that day Almo had to score two to tie him.

It’s always bugged me that TS tied him in goals. Standing alone would’ve been even more impactful.

  4. Vegas can’t help themselves? You say this like it’s a bad thing.

Think what you like but Sabres could only dream to have ownership and a GM doing whatever it takes to be relevant year in year out with a chance to win.

Marner to Vegas would be a huge move for them and he’s younger and better than Hertl. Great moves if they happen.

  5. JJ doesn’t have much leverage.

If he wants out that’s fine but the way I see it is, he’s Sabres property and they own his rights for two more years. He can sign a bridge deal and keep proving his worth. But he still has to perform or he won’t get more down the road.
If he’s traded and it’s an even swap or upgrade where needed that’s fine too.

If he offer sheeted and signs it, he better hope it’s for the over $9 million per otherwise we will just match it and he’s here longer. I would hope we can tell him he’s not going anywhere and he keeps getting better. But he’s in no position to dictate things.

I’m rambling but if we don’t want to move him and he’s that unhappy then he can hold out and we can just sit him. Play hardball. It does him no good to sulk. We can’t just farm out players as they start hitting their stride.

I watched the entire game. You couldn’t be more wrong, but hey it’s your opinion. We are both free to have them.

both in first period, first leads to goal 3, second happens while Florida on a PP.

  7. I cannot believe the comments here about officiating.
In first period of game 4, the Oilers rightfully had three penalties, 2 for high sticks. Yet it was incredible to me that two high sticks by Florida were somehow not called (one while in pp) the other leading directly to the third goal.

To suggest the Panthers were jobbed by refs is such a wild take when they get away with more blatant fouls than any team in hockey. I’m talking dangerous plays like high sticks.

You can think what you like but Edmonton is not who the NHL wants to win and they’ll have to do it despite officials. (I despise both teams but it’s time Canada got a Cup again)

  8. People shat over the Sabres and rightfully so, but since 2006 the Sabres have 4 playoff round wins.

Assuming Toronto lose to Florida, it will be 4 playoff round wins for Buffalo, to two playoff round wins for the Leafs since 2006. Incredible. We’ve missed 14 years in a row and the Leafs have been in every year since 2017. Wow.
