  1. I realize that Lehner has always been a bit of a hothead, but it's always been directed toward the other team until now. In my opinion, Lehner's behavior last night following the benching is indicative of a head coach with a very tenuous command of the team. Rumors of Eichel being unhappy with the coach don't surprise me. Dan Abysmal should be fired no later than the end of this lost season.

    Best nickname so far.

I still blame Regier for a lot of this teams problems, he asset stripped the team and wasn't talented enough to really get us much for it. Not surprisingly, I really loathe him. GMTM isn't faultless, he hasn't done a good job giving us a good defence as an example. Rather than him though I blame a lot more of our issues at Bylsma's feet. His style of hockey is boring to watch (if your a bad team, at least make the game entertaining!) and doesn't seem to work with his players. On top of this he seems to stick to random assets like Grant or the Gorges - Risto D pairing. I'd like to see what these kids can do and I really don't believe he is getting the most out of them.

Biggest problem is I don't see a situation in which his fired at the end of this season. GMTM will stick with him for at least one more season. Look how long we had to stick with Ruff/Regier. Comparing us to the Leafs though is tough, they have Babcock and Lou which we can't compete with. On top of that they, as has been mentioned, have a decade's worth of reasonable assets. We have barely any assets from before GMTM (even then Girgs is invisible and Grigo is gone).

  2. Well I feel very good about one thing:

Good-bloody-bye. I just cannot take this board anymore, it's unique in it's misery, inability to give up the past or truely accept new posters. While I'll miss certain posters I know most of you won't miss me. Infact, who am I kidding, aside from maybe 1 or two ###### the lot of you!

Good bye! Hopefully Chz will block my account

  3. Watch England actually win this and no one care because Olympic soccer is of lower prestige than the World Junior Championships.

(Oops, sorry, GB, not England. I forget that in the Olympics, they need to unite the whole island.)

Excuse me! It's held in lower regard than curling at the winter olympics is here. No, I'm really not joking. In fact darts gets more coverage.

  4. NS: I'm watching Wimbledon (interesting that when a Scot is in the finals, he's "British"), and technology is working just fine there. Works fantastic in cricket, too. I don't see why goal-line tech is a bad idea for soccer.

Even labelled as a Brit most people in the UK were rooting for Federer, take that for what you will. The resistance to putting goal line tech in Football is just mind boggling though.

  5. I ask again..what in particular has Gillis done that he has earned a reputation that he's a great GM? And don't tell me "two consecutive presidents' trophies!!!!" because the entire core of those teams was in place before Gillis took over. What moves has he made that make him stand out? Looking at his moves hasn't impressed me a lot. Plus, hockeysfuture.com has the Canucks' collective prospects ranked 29th in the league. Isn't it possible that he simply went all-out this year at the deadline to make his team Cup-worthy, and failed? It certainly wouldn't be the first time in the history of sports that a GM was very short-sighted with particular moves.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Here we go a again.

    http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=395392

Kesler out for six months after shoulder surgery; expected to miss the start of next season.

    Sorry Gillis, no backsies.

I don't think his duly concerned, though I expect him to go for Gausted in the offseason, perfect 3rd line center for him.

That should tell you something......and it ain't good.

What, that his not concerned because he has a plan or that his an idiot? Which?

Yes I know what your point is, I'm mocking you.

  6. That's the thing about this whole situation. Even if everything Gillis is saying is true, only one guy is coming across as unprofessional during the whole thing. Cody has played this perfectly by staying out of it. Gillis looks like a three year old.

And gets to keep his job.

  7. So now because Gary Roberts disagrees, Hodgson being an issue for the Canucks GM isn't true? And even if it is true, whats the big deal? He had issues in Vancouver where they misdiagnosed his injury, and he was stuck behind a couple of superstars for playing time. I wouldn't be surprised if the Canucks GM had to spend alot of time dealing with him and what to do with him. Its also possible that he is now in a place where he will be happier and won't be an issue the GM has to spend alot of time on. I don't think Roberts was there in Vancouver at all to see what was going on and is only going off of his dealing with him in the offseason, away from the team. no one ever said he wasn't a hard worker, or that he wasn't trying, Gillis just said that he spent alot of time dealing with Cody the last few years. The fact that Cody doesn't want to talk about or look back on his time in Vancouver and dispute the comments from Gillis lead me to believe that theres probably alot of truth to Gillis comments, he wasn't happy there and may have had issues with the Canucks management and now he has moved on and is putting it behind him to start fresh.

But of course, on this board, everything seems to have to be Black or White, with either Cody being a malcontent who (with a demanding father) will constantly be agrevating and complaining to management, or he is a sweet and innocent kid who some evil GM is trying to defame to cover his own behind in a mistake of a deal

I took it as someone who was saying what I was: Gillis is an idiot who is trying to save his ass by scapegoating Hodgson. It's truth is redundant.

I think that saying you ahve had to spend time on a players issues implies that they are a problem player, which Roberts is saying is not the CoHo he knows, and whilst true he does only know him away from the team, he also knows him as a person - i doubt Miller is laid back and the life and soul of a party simple because it is the offseason, same is true with Coho and his attitude.

He has not replied to the comments because if he disagrees with Gillis, which his high road comment would suggest he does, then all that happens is that it descends into name calling and insults

Or, Apus, what he said. Lol.

  8. I have to agree with this, it seems Buffalo fans are a very pessimistic munch. I am happy with the way this team is generally going, disappointed with where they are atm and excited for the draft/FA and most importantly next season.

As for Coho, i don't think there is anything wrong with asking for more ice time if you have earnt it. I can understand why is was apprehensive about his playing time. I would rather go to a middle of the road franchise and play a big role in its quest for the cup than play 6 minutes on the top team. Four years is a long time to not get a shot at a top 6 pairing. I also wonder about requesting trades, is it a bit like college confirmations that you can heavily hint that you want one, but coming out and requesting one is pretty much definitive?

Anyway, i hope Coho is here for a long time and the reaction the van fans have to him should be taken seriously, just as we rag on Roy for being lazy and presuming he does nothing but party and drink etc. i am sure they do the same about their players - the only difference is that in this case, they like him :P

I get the impression that asking for a trade is pretty much media hype unless your name is Heatley or Kovalev. Most reports say Luongo will waive his NMC but some do say that he is requesting a trade, dramatising it a bit.

  9. Looking at the past 3 seasons, you can see a progression in Quick's game and his numbers. His save % has increased each season and his gaa has gone down each season. You see, it's not about one season, it's his entire body of work.

I'm not disagreeing, if Quick keeps it up he'll be one of the best goalies to have ever played in the NHL. If. All I'm saying is that his proven as much as Miller has, except his at an earlier stage of his career. The other difference is they have a more consistent team with a higher skill level whereas Miller has to deal with subpar teams for a number of seasons. Again not saying either is better, just that judging one as a good goalie based on one Veniza worth season and some other good ones and saying the other is disappointing based on exactly the same stat is hypocrisy.

Also, GAA is an awful stat, its how well the team plays defensively as well as the goalie, using it to judge a goalie is as stupid as the GM of the year award or some of Shannyban's suspensions imo.

  10. I just read the WGR article on the front page. It amazes me that given the first opportunity quite a number of Sabre 'fans' in and out of the media will ###### all over the team. I hate football and the British culture behind it but at least they know how to support their teams. :(.

EDIT: May sound harsh but I believe that it's too early to say who 'won' the deal but I believe both teams got what they needed. If they don't use Kass correctly and he doesn't develop then thats their choice. Hodgson is supposed to be a good centre with 1st line potential and despite the ridiculous amount of line swapping he did look good even if he didn't score at a PPG pace. Also have to remember he played more games and more away games than any other rookie this season, in fact I think more than any player (not sure about that though).

  11. Yeah...and we have to pray that there's not even a shred of truth in what Gillis is saying now that he knows the kid, or we all know this team is going to bring that monster right out of him.

I'm thinking Serenity. Anyone said Miranda around Cody?

There is a great deal of respect out there for the Kings. Quick is taking his place as one of the best young goalies in the game and has people looking at the Kings differently.

How could last year be "enough?" Not sure what you mean there?

Kings have been an offensive force for a while, most people said they underperformed during the season and were more dangerous than most 8th seeds. Combine that with the Sedin injury and the constant questions about Luongo plus the already unhappy fan base and the so called upset wasn't really a surprise.

Question: You've said before how one good season proves nothing when talking about Miller, how can you say Quick is regarded as one of the best young goalies in the game with only one good season?

  12. I just want to know what kind of danger our team is in if he continues to play for us? What if he decides he doesn't like Buffalo? Would daddy take it upon himself to covertly bankrupt Pegula, thus costing us our Sabres? Plus gas prices would go up and truckers wouldn't be able to afford to ship goods, so the economy would tank, spiraling us into some Depression 2.0.

I better get my apocalypse bunker ready. Cody Hodgson could be the end of us all.

    Lmao.

  13. There is no arguement there. This is the kind of thing that tends to happen at year end press conferences where teams and their management and coaches are held accountable. considering the Sabres are the only team eliminated that has not held one......I guess it's hard for some people to understand what accountability looks like.

You now have the GM on record saying that Hodgson was a problem. At the time of the trade......a rational person would ask themself, "Why would a team get rid of a young prospect who seems to be doing well?"

Your incorrect. At the time it was largely reported that the trade was made to give the Nucks some size and not just a enforcer, someone with a little potential. Someone to protect the Sedins if they faced a team like Boston. I suspect the fear of facing Boston again drove this more than any other personally but that is beside the point.

Also, as LPF said, he was an expendable asset that was never going to crack the top 2 lines, well not for a while anyway. He probably wanted out and the match fitted. The decision burned because all the Nucks fans think Cody would have made all of the difference and can't live with the idea that they got beaten by a better team who played a better, more disciplined system.

  14. This is a a bit harsh GoDD. It's like telling the woman sitting on the curb during an episode of Cops she deserves to get hit. There is a great number of Sabre fans that suffer from Battered Fan Syndrome. That is why they make excuses every time Status Quo gets liquored up and knocks them around. They are happy to live in the denial bubble that Pegula and Black have built. Why wouldn't they, the denial bubble has new carpeting and painted walls and some catchy phrases etched in glass. It also protects them from the realities of where this franchise truly is.

You can do and say a lot of things, but do NOT pretend any Sabre fan who might be a little more optimistic is living in some kind of denial. Smarmy arrogant tosser. Yes you touched a nerve, yes you pissed me off, yes I genuinely hope you get badly hurt at some point soon and end up in the worse circle of hell for even using that analogy. People like you make the world a much worse place. While I may not agree with you all the time I do try and respect your opinion but on this occasion you crossed a line, also shows how big your balls grow when you can hide behind GoDD.

    I'm done now.

Any idea what the Leafs thought of Connelly after 1 season with him?

  15. And I see a bunch of people not willing to put the work into understanding the true dynamics behind anything that may tarnish their lollipop view of those they adore.

You guys really deserve this franchise. You truly do.

In the span of 24 hours we have:

    1) Confirmation from players that Lindy Ruff's system is based on overthinking and not instinct

    2) Hodgson caused more problems than the entire Vancouver team

    3) Ruff ruined Kalinin with his overbearing tactics according to Paul Hamilton's sources.

You kids keep it real. I've made 2 posts in 3 weeks, yet when browsing the board see some of the lollipop gang telling others.....I quote..."Shut the F### Up!"

Take your little clique.....and your franchise full of pussies...........and shove it up your collective ######.

    You do make me laugh.

Wait, you're being serious. Oh dear. I've been on this board long enough to have come to the conclusion that you are most definitely not a Sabres fan, I would suspect you are actually a Leafs or Pens fan or something trolling.

For Hodgson being such a massive problem in Vancouver, you'd think they would have been willing to trade him for more than 6 players. Given this, I see 2 logical possibilities:

    1) He has damn good potential and they were loath to get rid of him

    2) He wasn't actually much of a problem and Gillis is trying to save face on a trade that didn't work out for him this season

If it was as big of a deal as the Hodgson haters are trying to make it out to be, he would have been moved a long time ago.

I also laughed at GoDD's post...not only because of the hilariously contrived drama involved, but because he accuses everyone of taking everything at face value and not willing to put in the work to understand something which may make the Sabres look bad....but is completely willing himself to take everything negative about the current state of the Sabres at face value because it agrees with his existing negative predisposition. Leino had to think...on a new team, in a new system, with new teammates and changing positions...I was right Ruff ruins players! Hodgson caused problems getting his back injury properly diagnosed...I was right, he's a bad apple and Regier sucks! Paul Hamilton said Ruff ruined Kalinin....I'll ignore the players who have gotten better....I was right, Ruff ruins players!

    Mancari

    Gragani

    Kassian

Total those 3 and you dont get anywhere near the amount of return we had for Hodgson alone, let alone Sulzer as well. (I know Mancari was separate).

Gillis's job is on the line in a big fashion so he will try every tactic, how can this not be completely obvious to everyone? This happens in British politics all the time.

EDIT: Also I've just remembered the phone call during tradecenter with Hodgson, that was not the phone call of a man who wanted out of Vancouver, in fact he didn't seem to like being traded at all. Anyone who believes this ###### from Gillis is quite frankly an idiot.

  16. His injury came 7 games into the season. Then he came back for roughly 2 weeks before injuring the ankle again. It's tough to label someone as massively underperforming in such a short amount of time.

And in case you're wondering, he had 0 points in those first 7 and then 5 points in the 8 games prior to the second injury.

Ok, I didn't check the numbers.

  17. Our team under performed. Literally everyone did (bar Pominville and Ennis and Foligno, if he counts). I hope Regier knows what to do, as i am not too sure what went wrong, maybe it was the new player lack of chemistry combined with a load of injuries to different players, so the lines had to keep being muddled. I don't really know.

As for Roy's contract, it really isn't that bad. He has proven he is can get to 80 points, this season he was bad, but maybe he was out of shape from missing 6 months last year? It is harder to attain fitness than it is to lose or maintain it. I think for those people who say i'd trade him for a hobo's left shoe, then they are poor businessmen. It is quite simple, if you have an asset, you use the asset. You do not throw it away. Most people sell their old cars when they get a new one, the old one is probably a bit ######, but you still don't just burn it do you?

Didn't Ennis massively underperform before his injury? Agree with the rest of the post, good point.

  18. I think writing off Stafford's contract after a 20/30 performance is silly. He has plenty of time to make that contract worth while. He made the same salary as Roy and produced more goals and total points. Also, if you look around the league, there were plenty of worse contracts (Leino amongst them).

Roy had one bad year, this one just gone. His was a $4mill contract for a 70 point producer.

  19. Hodgson is a young kid and would likely have many fans while in Vancouver. It doesn't mean anything. Look at how many people here that were happy with the Stafford contract this past off-season and how silly they look now.

Not many, I remember most people thinking Stafford should have had a 1 year deal as he had proved little.
