I am a Sabre for life.

Fans are leaving right now although I believe most of them will come back if/when this gets fixed. The young fans know only losing and mediocrity (at best)  but like the Bills fans, they will be back when the team gets exciting and more successful.

And this is a problem. Excuse the holier-than-thou approach but.. if you hop off the wagon when things are tough, don't bother coming back when they're good again.

“I’m extremely confident with the players that we have in a leadership role, and it starts with Jack,” Kyle Okposo said. “Jack’s a 23 year old, and he’s only going to continue to get better, he’s only going to continue to grow in that leadership role. He has done that. He demands a lot out of teammates, out of everybody, because he puts in everything he’s got.”

“He wears his heart on his sleeve, that’s how he is. He’s growing as a leader. I think when it’s all said and done, he’s going to be a top-tier captain in this league, and he’s going to do a heck of a job leading. In saying that, he can’t do it by himself. I think if you ask him, I would hope he would say he has a good leadership support around him, especially with Jake and Marcus this year.”

Unfortunately this does not fit the narrative that's been created around here. We're going to have to just pretend you didn't post that and move on.

No, you should not look to need in round 1. You want to draft needs in 2-7 go for it. In round 1 you need to get the most talented NHL player you can get.

I think i generally agree with this especially at the top of the round. If you're drafting 1OA, you probably need so much that it's not worth passing on the "best" player to fill a positional need.

    1)  Get Risto off the team.  He gets crushed every time he’s on the ice and brings down every Sabre he’s on the ice with

    2) Cody Eakin never suits up for the Sabres again.  He replaced Sobotka as the worst forward in the NHL statistically.  It’s quite disturbing they got rid of the worst player and then someone found someone worse.

    3) Not drafting Owen Power - dmen are much trickier to evaluate with metrics but it would give me confidence if they took any of the top forwards or Hughes whose ceiling looks much higher than Power

    4) Don’t give away assets to move Okposo. Just no reason for it unless they plan on bringing in $30 mill in players this off-season

    5) Don’t leave Asplund or Borgen unprotected in the expansion draft.  These are players you build with.  Good teams keep these players.  Bad ones let them walk for nothing.

I largely like the list -- but is number 5 backed up by the analytics you're talking about? I honestly don't know what the charts say about Asplund and Borgen (though I do like them, probably Borgen more) but wouldn't be shocked if they weren't so good.

  5. Interesting that he said something along the lines of "you won't see him driving a line, but he's a good complementary player" when talking about Eklund. How many top 3 picks do you say that about?

I get it that not all top 5s are first line stars, but that line was a little underwhelming.

I wanted to say this about Eichel...for the most part, his failure to lift the team up as captain and as #2 overall wasn't entirely his fault. Looking at this video, it appears that both parties weren't too thrilled with the selection. Buffalo's sole focus for tanking was McDavid. And when that rug was pulled out from under them, it appeared to have not been a match made in heaven. GMTM threw a tantrum and Eichel didn't look too thrilled either. So the Sabres didn't start off on the right foot with Eichel and this is where it ends...with a bad trade from an inexperienced GM no doubt.

What you're saying might be right, but I just watched that video and didn't see any evidence of it there...

The plan seems to be to let new team make decision

So the Sabres have publicly (or at least privately?) admitted that they're dealing Jack? I know that's been the prevailing thought among the fanbase for weeks now, but nothing so concrete from the team.

Not that they'd come out and say it necessarily, but that didn't seem to be so clearly the plan when KA last spoke publicly.

Is a trade for Elvis and signing of Driedger viable for a few seasons while UPL gets up to speed and Portillo transitions to pro?

If our plan is to dismantle the team, i'd have a hard time giving up assets for a placeholder goalie. Signing someone like Driedger, sure -- but not sure about a trade.

As they said, they have a huge hole at RHD and have a good quantity of winger prospects and present players including Tyce Thompson, Mercer, and Foote.

Miles Wood is a Lindy Ruff kind of guy, I don't see it happening. Especially for a player that, based on everything he has said in his career, will likely bail once he becomes a UFA in 12 months.

  10. I had posted something similar a couple weeks ago, but replaced the first with Fiala.

It seems like a trade that you're not really sure about, which probably means it's pretty close to fair. Though, from Minnesota's perspective, that may mean they'll feel like they're giving up too much.
