  1. First good snow of the year. Saturday night in Montreal. Feels like hockey season -- would feel like hopeful hockey season again if the Sabres won. This building has been pretty kind to them.

No snow here in the DC area, but the temps are dropping enough to fire up the logs in the fireplace and it is finally starting to feel like hockey season. Let's hope the seasons isn't over for the Sabres (considering their performance do date).

  2. gotta beat the teams in front of you when you are chasin the pack.

uphill battle for this team, second of back to backs on the road against a team that has been playing solid hockey in front of a hot goalie(Price).

    surprise me Bflo.

Let's hope they get it done tonight.

  3. Shall I roll out my fire Regier post now? The flyers who are currently 'mired' near the top of the eastern conference standings continue to make moves to try and improve, the latest of which was just a day or two ago. Whether or not the players they brought in do improve that team now or in the future is anybodies guess but the fact remains that they continually try to get better. What has Regier done for us lately?

Personally, I'm tired of Darcy and her fascination with soft, lazy players. But I think the real problem is Larry Quinn. He seems to have his thumb on the scale -- and nothing gets done unless it satisfies his financial demands.

  4. Well guys, we can talk til we're blue in the face about the effort tonight or how close we were to scoring. The bottom line, however, is that the team has won 8 out of 23 games this season.

I'm not burying them or anything, but it's starting to feel like we're not watching a playoff team here.

I think we'd all like to believe that the Sabres can turn things around and storm through the rest of the season and coast into the playoffs. Unfortunately, what we are watching is a team that underperforms on a maddeningly regular basis. This team reminds me of the pre-lockout Sabres that would sleep-walk through most of the season, then had to fight and scratch in the last 20 games just to qualify for the 8th playoff spot.

Hope I'm wrong, but I'm not looking forward to the rest of the season.

  5. I'm sorry to bring this back to the crowd, but I haven't been to a Sabre game in a while...we just took the lead against one of the best teams in the West and it just doesn't sound loud....help me understand this!

RJ just said that the arena is "noisy" tonight because of all the kids in the stands.

  6. I'll start the list:

    1. Lalime

    2. Rivet

    3. Grier

    4. Niedermayer

    5. Connolly

Luckily for us, all 5 are UFA's this offseason. The first 4 should retire immediately. Connolly will probably bounce around the league for a few more years.

Personally, I'd like to take out Larry Quinn first and foremost.

But that's not going to happen, so here's my reax:

I'm not so sure about Lalime -- after all, any back-up goalie is a back-up goalie for a reason. And the reason is that he's not good enough to start.

Grier is not the player he was a few years ago, but I think he might have value at one of thoe locker-room rah-rah kind of guys.

As for the other three -- take 'em out back and shoot 'em. And throw in Stafford while you're at it.

If that doesn't do the trick -- take out Morrisonn, Gaustad and Pominville.

    If that doesn't

  7. Gotta admit, the one point is more than I was expecting. That doesn't mean I'm going to be satisfied if it's only the one point, however.

Agreed - I thought the Caps were going to roll over the Sabres, but given what's happened in this game one point is a disappointment

  8. it's actually been marginally better today than in some of the games we've played this year.

Caps are showing the quality though, we'd get away with that kind of mistake more often than not

Quality -- that's the key word. And that's what the Sabres don't have. I don't see anyone on the Sabres taking control of the game at this point. I swear they're playing for one point..
