‘Buffalo (12-21-7) couldn’t overcome mistakes by young players and veterans, as Dallas’ Tyler Seguin twice tied the score before Jason Robertson’s second goal of the game gave the Stars a lead they wouldn’t relinquish with 3:32 remaining in regulation.’

Casey Mittelstadt close to return, but Sabres’ injury report continues to grow
‘”He’s been aggressive,” Granato said of Mittelstadt. “He had surgery and he had a situation where you could rehab and play through it, and obviously, the hope of that didn’t pan out the way it was. He had the surgery and he’s a different level of confidence. He knows he’s fixed, he’s repaired, he’s ready to go. So it’s a whole other level of confidence with respect to, it’s a complete known, I know I’m ready to go, I know it’s fixed, repaired, whatever. And that’s much different than where he was six weeks ago, and he’s going to be better because of it.”‘

Robertson, Seguin rally Stars to 5-4 win over Sabres
‘Buffalo built a 2-0 advantage in the opening seven minutes. Dahlin skated up the left wing and beat Holtby with a backhand for his seventh goal at 2:47 of the first. Dahlin, the Sabres’ lone All-Star, then assisted on a power-play goal from Quinn, the Sabres’ first-round pick in 2020 playing his second game since being called up from the minors.’
Special teams the difference in Sabres’ loss to Dallas
‘A pair of power play goals in the third period helped Dallas eventually overtake the Sabres, 5-4. Seguin’s second goal of the night came on the man advantage while Cody Eakin served a minor penalty for slashing. Meanwhile, Robertson’s second goal of the game was scored when he knocked the puck out of the air in front of the net.’

Opinion: Casey Mittelstadt almost ready to play after surgery
‘“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard, especially the first couple of days after,” the center admitted after Thursday’s morning skate. “But the faster and the harder you work, the faster you’re going to get back. So for me, that was my goal.”’
