Tuesday’s Ottawa Coverage

Observations: Jeff Skinner scores again, but Sabres’ offense comes up short

‘“This is a young team. We’re going to have to learn to play with a lead and capitalize and playing with a lead,” lamented Sabres winger Alex Tuch, who missed the net on a breakaway with three minutes remaining in the third. “We weren’t able to do that tonight. We let our goalie down.”’

Mike Harrington: Clippings by Wings among season’s biggest frustrations for Sabres

‘Talk all you want about Tampa Bay, Toronto, Boston and now even Florida. If the Sabres ever want to get anywhere in the Atlantic Division, they first better conquer Ottawa and Detroit.’

Sabres blow late lead, lose in OT to Red Wings: ‘We let our goalie down’

‘“We just scored a goal to go up 2-0, you’re on a power play and we didn’t manage the situation well,” coach Don Granato said on a Zoom call following the Sabres’ 3-2 overtime loss.’

Sabres notes: Mattias Samuelsson looks impressive in season debut for Buffalo

‘“He was good,” Sabres coach Don Granato said of Samuelsson on a Zoom call. “He was the least of our worries, that’s for sure. He’s a pretty stabilizing guy, obviously. A big body. We’ve used (Alex) Tuch and (Tage) Thompson on the penalty kill because they just cover so much ice and have range. Samuelsson has such a presence with his size and reach and strength.’

Larkin scores 2 in Red Wings’ 3-2 OT win over Sabres

‘Skinner lamented that the Sabres “had the lead, we had a power play, and we have to find a way to close those games out.”’

Detroit comes back to defeat Sabres in overtime

‘Larkin took advantage of a turnover in the Sabres’ zone early in overtime to score the game-winning goal. Nick Leddy made the pass to help setup the score, and recorded the only assist.’

Opinion: Three observations: Sabres’ win gets lost in snow

‘While Dell, by no means, is the long-term solution in Buffalo, it’s a welcome sight to see him improving.’

Opinion: Sabres blow another two-goal lead, lose to Detroit

‘It is mind blowing to me that the Sabres have gone into the third period leading 15 times this season and have lost seven of them. I have never seen that stat be that bad. A really good team will lose one game, at most, when leading after two.’
