Conklin won&#8217t easily replace Sabres&#8217 Biron

'“We’ll see how he does,” Miller said. “It’s going to be tough because Marty’s such an established Sabre. People are going to want to get to know him and know get to know his personality. I know Ty’s a good person, a good guy. He works hard and he’s competitive. These are all things that we demand of our teammates."'

Chomping at the Bit

‘”I don’t want to jump right in,” said Afinogenov. “I’d rather play a couple of games in before the playoffs.”‘

Filling a void

'This team, even with six players called up from the Rochester Americans, continues to amaze not only me, but people around the NHL. That says a lot about the job Randy Cunneyworth is doing down in Rochester with the Americans.'

Fighting (S)words

'Sure, I had plenty of reasons to cheer for the Sabres before their nasty fight with the Ottawa Senators. Captain Chris Drury is a Connecticut native, they play a style of hockey unlike any other team in the NHL, and their coach, Lindy Ruff, looks like he'd fit in better with the Blue Collar Comedy Tour than with blue-collar hockey players.'

Springville cheers Kaleta's

'"Hopefully I can get this one on tape so I can watch it in a couple years,” Kaleta said in the locker room after the win, surrounded by reporters and television cameras. “There was a lot of things going on tonight. Shootout win, the goalies come out and fight. It’ll be a game to remember for a long time.”'

It’s Ryan’s team

‘”I live and die by how I interact with my team,” Miller said. “Part of my strength as a goaltender is my ability to work with my team, interact with my team, have trust in my team. I think we’ve worked hard and I’ve worked hard to gain that, and that’s the way I approach it.”‘

Tallinder catches flu, may not play tonight

‘Buffalo Sabres defenseman Henrik Tallinder was at the doctor’s office rather than practice, suffering symptoms similar to the flu that sidelined Daniel Briere earlier in the week. Ruff was hopeful Tallinder would be healthy enough to play tonight when the Sabres host the Montreal Canadiens in HSBC Arena.’

Sabres vs. Canadiens

‘The last time the Sabres had three 30-goal scorers was 1991-92.’

Amerks keeping Sabres in stride

'The Sabres regulars have praise for youngsters who have been Amerks most of the season but now are helping keep Buffalo in first place in the Eastern Conference. "When you have two or three guys, it's not a big deal, they're playing the same system (in Rochester) so they're well prepared," center Daniel Briere said. "But when you have six or seven or eight of them, it's a little surprising, but they've all played so well."'
