'Vanek's second goal came on the power play and during a wild scramble in front. Vanek's first shot from the slot — and with goalie Ray Emery out of position — was stopped by diving defenseman Anton Volchenkov. The puck caromed to the left circle, where Ales Kotalik fanned on his attempt, but the shot slid to the right post and Vanek slipped it into the open side.'

'The game was tied throughout much of the third period after Ottawa made it 2-2 early in the stanza, but Buffalo grabbed the lead with four minutes left when Ales Kotalik sent a shot on net from the top of the right circle that went wide, but Vanek redirected it past Emery for a 3-2 lead. A tripping penalty by Mike Fisher with 2:35 to play effectively killed any chance Ottawa had of tying the game.'
'Martin Biron is set to start in goal tonight for the Buffalo Sabres in their tilt with the Ottawa Senators.'
'At 440 calories, the chicken sandwich – a 4.5 oz. chicken breast grilled and served on a sesame seed roll – is probably one of the best fast-food choices at the arena, especially if you add tomato and lettuce, according to dietitian Glenda Reardon of the Niagara County Office for the Aging. And by all means, skip the fries – even if they are cooked in soybean oil. "The average person gobbles 2,200 calories daily depending on your level of exercise, your height, your weight," Reardon said. "It also depends on how often you eat like this, especially since you're sitting at the game for hours."'
'"I think if you saw a hockey game like that every night, you'd be pretty happy," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said.'
'"I'm very excited and honored to receive this award and become part of a special group of people, including the legendary Scotty Bowman," Housley said. "Scotty and the Sabres took a chance on a kid from a Minnesota high school, and I will never forget that."'
'Season Series: Senators lead, 4-1.'
‘”If you play a team that has played the night before, you have to give them hell early,” said Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson. “If they get up by one or two early, it makes it a lot easier for them.”‘
‘The Sabres are currently experiencing exactly what the Senators went through during the middle of the 2005-06 season, and are finding it difficult to live up to their own lofty early season expectations.’
‘The Senators have had all of that against Buffalo this season. After losing the initial meeting, they have gone on to win the next four. Ray Emery, who starts tonight, has been a large factor. He watched the first game then has been between the pipes since, compiling a 1.75 GAA and improving his career regular-season mark vs. Buffalo to 8-1-0-1.’
