Habs pin loss on Sabres

'The Sabres ran into two potent forces Tuesday. Montreal goaltender Cristobal Huet stopped 42 shots, including 33 over the final two periods. Montreal also boasts the best power play in the NHL, and it scored twice in the first period to help put the Sabres in a 3-1 hole. "The three quick goals stung us," coach Lindy Ruff said. "It took us awhile to recover."' … [Read more...] about Habs pin loss on Sabres

Finally, MacArthur gets a turn

'MacArthur, a third-round pick of the Sabres in the 2003 entry draft, was one of the final cuts in training camp. The 21-year-old is excelling in his second season in Rochester. He leads the Amerks with 34 points off 12 goals and 22 assists.' … [Read more...] about Finally, MacArthur gets a turn

Like father, like son for Numminens

'You always gain a better understanding of a person upon meeting his parents. Once you get past the language barrier, it's easy to see how Numminen has evolved into a cerebral, unflappable leader during his two years with the Sabres. It clearly comes from his father, a serene man who called himself a parent first and a coach second.' … [Read more...] about Like father, like son for Numminens

Canadiens beat dazed Sabres

'"I think we've been slapped with a little adversity," said Sabres coach Lindy Ruff. Montreal 5, Buffalo 2

'The Sabres pulled within one with about eight minutes to play in the second, as Kotalik corralled the puck behind the goal line and sent it out in front to Spacek, who punched it home stick side. Tomas Plekanec, though, lit the lamp on a deflection goal 7:52 into the final frame to push the advantage back to two goals.' … [Read more...] about Montreal 5, Buffalo 2

Sabres fail to execute in second straight loss

'Despite taking a total of 80 shots in their last two games, Buffalo has only found the back of the net three times -- once Saturday night against Ottawa and twice tonight against Montreal. Drury yearns for a line to call his own

'The latest experiment to find dependable sidekicks for Drury continues tonight when the Sabres host the Montreal Canadiens.
