‘The Buffalo Sabres weren’t their dominant selves in Week 9, but the club still managed to do enough to stay on top in the power rankings. Buffalo spilt its two games last week, winning one in a shootout and getting blown out, 7-4, in the other contest.’
'Andreychuk started his career with the Sabres, and the ceremony was purposely planned for a night Buffalo was in town. Andreychuk's first 11 seasons, from 1982 to 1993, were spent in Buffalo, and he also played for the Sabres in 2000-01. "I'm glad the Sabres organization is going to be a part of it," Andreychuk said. "There's obviously not a lot of people still there from when I first got there, but there's a few from my second go-round."'
'For the first time since Nov. 4, the Sabres skated with a fully fit unit, excluding Tim Connolly and Henrik Tallinder, who are out with long-term injuries.'
'The Sabres are tied for most road points in the NHL with 22.'
'Stafford has two goals and three assists in 13 games for the Sabres this season.'
'"The league looked at Ovie's record," Hanlon said. "He's not a dirty player. He's not somebody who is a repeat offender. We obviously look at it differently than Buffalo does, because it was their player that could have been injured. [Buffalo Coach Lindy Ruff] was right. If it was Ovechkin who was hurt, we'd be up in arms ourselves."'
'"He's not a dirty player or somebody who's a repeat offender," Hanlon said. "We obviously look at it differently than Buffalo does — it's their player who could have been injured. The quote from [Sabres coach Lindy Ruff] was right: If it was Ovechkin who was hit, we'd be up in arms ourselves. … I know that [Ovechkin] felt remorse, and I think that went a long way in the [NHL's] decision."'
'Washington D.C. is a bit different. This is a town full of docile people whose indifference needs to be doused with a few well-thrown beers, as was the case on Saturday night. Nobody in D.C. is going to threaten you, but they do come off as whiny metrosexuals, and that might be more reason as why a few beer showers commenced.'
