'"I don't know how he does it," says smiling Sabres goaltender Marty Biron. "All I know is that there isn't another guy I would want in my end of the rink to clear the puck for me with that backhand. He does it so calmly too. He's done it during games. The amazing part is how accurate he is with it. Toni can be on either side of the rink and backhand the puck almost perfectly to center ice. He does it so well that a couple of our forwards break down the ice and wait for the puck to land so they can get a breakaway. And that's worked to."'

'Kotalik's lifelong dream was to play for his country in the Olympics and it could have easily been said that he was heart broken that he wasn't selected in December despite putting up numbers far greater than those players selected for the Czech team. However, Kotalik's dream will come true because of an injury. New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias has been ruled out for the duration of the Olympic Games after suffering bruised ribs from a crosscheck during the team's opening game against Germany.'
'The Czechs got more bad news: forward Patrik Elias also is out for the rest of the games with bruised ribs sustained in a 3-2 upset loss Thursday to Switzerland. Elias was a late replacement for New York Rangers rookie Petr Prucha, who pulled out because of a knee injury. Elias is expected to be replaced by Ales Kotalik, who has 21 goals and 23 assists for a team-high 44 points in 56 games with the Buffalo Sabres.'
'While a lot of his Buffalo Sabres teammates opted to stay home or head to a warmer climate during the Olympic break, Andrew Peters came to Maine. While some of the Sabres went off to spend a week sunning themselves in Florida or Hawaii, the big left wing came to Maine to visit his older brother, Geoff, a center for the Portland Pirates.'
'Where does Afinogenov get all of that blazing speed that just seems to bring Sabres fans out of their seats when he skates down the ice with the puck? "I really don't know," he said. "I've always had it. It's something I've never practiced. I work on developing my leg muscles."'
