‘Directv, the nation’s leading digital satellite television service, has signed an agreement with MSG Network to broadcast Buffalo Sabres games.’
'"The fans have and will embrace the team," he said.'
'“We probably had four or five goals in the preseason … where they get a step in on the defense because you can’t use your stick, you can’t use your arm (and) it becomes a scoring chance now,” said Sabres coach Lindy Ruff. “I think that’s the biggest difference if you can skate and get the step on them. You never saw that. Now you’re seeing that play more often.”'
'All right, let's get the ugliness out of the way. Paul Gaustad was a minus-3 Wednesday. No one in the NHL was worse on opening night. But it's unlikely a minus-3 player has ever created such a positive buzz.'
'"It's tough to say," the Sabres' No. 3 goaltender said Thursday after being the first one off the ice in practice. "You don't feel it when you're outside in the stands. You don't really feel it in the practice right now. I've got to give (Ryan Miller and Martin Biron) time to practice more because they're playing right now. For myself, I've just got to stand there and wait my turn. Of course it's hard, and you don't really want that to happen, but now the situation for me is like this, so what can you do?"'
'He's also a commanding presence on the ice. He's listed at 5-foot-10, 178 pounds. Like LaFontaine (5-10, 177), Briere is a little guy who plays bigger, who insinuates himself into the cracks and crevices where games are won.'
'The Bruins went 5-1 against the Sabres in the 2003-04 season.'
'MSG Network now holds the rights to Sabres games, but they haven't reached an agreement with DirecTV. That's why Sabres fans are shutout.'
