'The six-time scoring champion and three-time NHL MVP, who missed the past two games with a strained hip, plans to play at HSBC Arena in Buffalo against the Sabres.'

Here we are, two full seasons and some change since the Barnaby/Barnes trade. Matt Barnaby has moved from Pittsburgh and now plays for the lowly Tampa Bay Lightning. Stu Barnes has been promoted from “rent-a-player” status to fan favorite to team captain.
Hollywood couldn't have come up with a better script. Here was "The Dominator" going up against his former team one week into the new season. Wearing his new threads, Dominik Hasek showed his former teammates just what they don't have anymore, a 6-time Vezina Trophy winner.
“We've lived in the shadow of Dom for many years,” said Jay McKee before the Buffalo Sabres played Dominik Hasek and the rest of the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night. After Hasek and the Wings beat the Sabres 4-2 at Joe Louis Arena, that shadow only lengthened.
'"It was a big night for him," Shanahan said. "He made some big saves to keep us in there when we were a little sloppy in our own end, gave us time to gell."'
'The Buffalo Sabres certainly weren't intimidated by the mighty Detroit Red Wings, and they definitely weren't dominated by their former superstar. But they were a bit overmatched.'
'Hasek's English has never been perfect, but it's telling that, as he discussed the game, he often lapsed into referring to the Sabres as "my teammates." Hasek, 36, played in Buffalo for nine years and has been in Detroit for less than three months. He still has his old black Sabres helmet, the buffalo logos on each side covered with black tape, sitting on a shelf in his locker. Hasek has left Buffalo, but Buffalo has not left Hasek.'
'The victory made them 10-0-1 in their past 11 against the Sabres. Their last loss came Nov. 1, 1995, when Hasek was in his fourth of nine seasons in Buffalo.'
'"I don't blame the coaches," Kozlov said Friday before going scoreless in the Sabres' 4-2 loss at Joe Louis Arena — his first game against his former club. "They just didn't have room for me."'
'"I'm very glad — I'm glad I got my first win in this building and glad I beat the Sabres."'
