'"A lot of times with him, I'd wonder, 'When am I going to be No. 1? When am I going to get my opportunity?' But on the other side, I learned so much from him. So in one way, when Dom didn't retire and came back, I thought it was OK, because I'd still have a chance to benefit more from his focus; from what he can teach me."'

We ask the same question every year. This time, much of a successful season depends on it. Where is our offense going to come from? Those pretty and ugly little goals that get us the points?
"We were shaking hands, I noticed there was only one goalie there. So I went to him. We shook hands and he gave me his hat. I said 'oh awesome! Thank you!' I have that hat now at the rink. I'll keep it as a good-luck charm."
'"The things he said hurt the team," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said Thursday. "I think we have something to prove. I think we always will. Dom was the focal point."'
'"He works so hard that he gets everybody going," All-Star forward Sergei Fedorov said of practicing alongside The Dominator. "I think his routine and his attitude here is perfect. . . . I'm enjoying just to watch him."'

'"He's stayed with them because things have gone pretty well so far," captain Stu Barnes said. "Changing and mixing lines comes down to whether things are going well, and so far there seems to be chemistry on the lines and it seems to be working right now."'
'LW Stu Barnes has a goal in each of his past three games.'
'"We're not playing Hasek (tonight), we're playing him Saturday (at the New York Islanders)," Bowman said. "We have to get Manny (Legace) in one of these games, he can't just sit there all the time." In the same breath, Bowman added, "I want to think about it. … All I can tell you is that Manny's going to play one of the next two games. I can't give you the starting goalie (tonight)."'
'"The Sabres said they're happy with the way I played in camp but the ice time wouldn't be there for my development. It's always hard to hear, but you have to understand why. You have to look at the bright side of things; I get to play a lot and play in a great organization."'
