Campbell hopes to take advantage of blue-line injuries

'The injuries, however, provide a legitimate chance for Brian Campbell to make a name for himself at the NHL level. Campbell and Rory Fitzpatrick were recalled from Rochester, and both should be here for a while.'

Sabres lack finishing kick against Coyotes

'It was the third time in as many games the Sabres lost despite entering the third period either tied or in the lead and outshooting their opponents for the game.'

Time for Campbell to make his case

'The injuries, however, provide a legitimate chance for Brian Campbell to make a name for himself at the NHL level. Campbell and Rory Fitzpatrick were recalled from Rochester, and both should be here for a while.'

Changes spark Coyotes

'Burke also held off a frantic Sabres finish in the final 1:15, when the Coyotes faced a 6-on-4 situation after a penalty.'

Burke could be Olympic starter

'Gretzky, who closed out his playing career as a member of the New York Rangers and was among the city's most popular athletes, was asked for whom he is rooting in the World Series, the Yankees or Diamondbacks. "I'm a politician…but nice try," he said, grinning.'

Coyotes 3, Sabres 2

'Coach Lindy Ruff said the Sabres' poor effort — and not the play of Burke and Lemieux — was what cost them.'

Phoenix 3, Buffalo 2

'"We did not give up a lot in New Jersey (on Saturday), but we were soft. And we were soft on the last goal," Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said. "Lemieux should have been laid out, period. He was allowed to get his own rebound while guys were standing around, watching."'

Sabres' Kalinin out with broken thumb

'Sabres defenseman Dmitri Kalinin had his broken left thumb surgically repaired on Tuesday and will miss up to four weeks.'

Somebody had to nail Varada

'"Sure, it was wrong what I did. Do I regret what I did? No."'

Sabres 'D' suffers from injury bug

'Depleted, devalued and decayed. That's what "D" stands for to the Buffalo Sabres lately.'
