NHL financial climate for next year...day of reckoning finally here?

So here's something I don't think we've been discussing too much lately but thought it is a good article to for discussion. Although, after I read it, I was confused at how things work financially in the league. But, looks like the day of reckoning for those ridiculous contracts is finally here.

McKenzie article

Combining out self-imposed cap and the predictions that the cap will come down, it doesn't look like we'll have much cash to add much in the off-season even if we don't sign any of our UFA's. Just from the top of my head, I think we have like $45 mil in cap total for next year, we had $50 mil in cap this year, and like 4 RFA's. If we stick to the $50 mil, and sign our RFA's, or don't sign some, it doesn't look like we have a lot of spending room to bring in any one from the outside. I can see us promoting Pirates to the bigs next year to fill spots.

That's just my speculation though.
