Bottom 10 finishes how many years now?  If you call this progress I have a different standard I guess.

you change your statement from 4 to 10 years?  cool.

and yes, they have made progress over the past 4 years.  from ACTUAL basement to meaningful march games.  something a lot of people are happy about, with an average age that is also in the "basement of the league." 😄

  2. i grew up with mike hurlbut who had a cup of coffee with the sabres.  everybody in town also knew the bogosians (family sold furniture).

the nhl legends tour came to town, and i filled my mom's autograph book by meeting perreault, the richard brothers, guy lafleur and others.  mom got muhammed ali's autograph in there when she was younger, i think a few of the players actually noticed it and commented on it.

when i was in college, i found myself in a car being driven by a 14 year old girl (only one who was sober) through downtown lake placid with 7 passengers as well as craig conroy and ed heinrich in the trunk with a case of beer (clarkson was in the ECAC tournament).  of course, the town cops stopped us within 100 feet of our destination, and after about 10 minutes of pleading by the girl's mother in freezing temperatures, they let us go.

i ran into steve yzerman and brendan shannahan behind home plate at the '99 mlb all-star post-game at fenway.  i asked my buddy to get my picture with steve, and after he obliged, he asked if i wanted one with shannahan, too.  i told him "nah, i can't stand that guy."  i wish i could have gotten a photo of the look on steve's face.

finally, i met a few of the rangers after a practice at matthews arena (northeastern university, boston) when my roommate had a job working the ticket window there.  no autographs, but shook hands with wayne, messier, and a few others.  brief, but memorable.

  3. am I crazy, or is TB the dirtiest team in the league over the past half-decade?  I consistently see cheap-shots and dangerous hits whenever they go up against buffalo.

yeah, I have no video proof at my disposal, but I haven't come to this observation without cause.  hedman slew-foot reino a few years ago, the cernak elbows, kucherov's cross-checks...it just seems to be their aura lately.  but I guess to win titles, you do whatever it takes.  :|

If you were another team, would you trade for Eichel now? I think his value is pretty low now with injury  and this show of impertinence just made him even less valuable to a team.

only if the price was right, and i'm (pretend GM) not shipping out my 1C (prospect or otherwise) or a 2021 1st for him.  i can appreciate what GyMKAta (what i speak out loud in my head whenever i see "GMKA") is doing, but the longer this goes on, the less best it's doing the sabres.  and he wants what's best for the sabres, so...

I was thinking about getting ESPN+ because it carries the Clarkson University hockey games, and you can bundle it with Hulu and Disney+ now. But I didn't know they were carrying NHL games this year.

woo hoo! another (original) golden knights fan.  righteous.

to stay on topic...i, too, am impressed with the approach this team is presenting through the first two games of the season.  both had the distinct probability of being losses, and yet the sabres have essentially imposed their will on their opponents for what amounts to all but a a few minutes that i can count on one hand.  love it.

  6. sorry if it's been mentioned already, but ryan kennedy on siriusXM ch. 91 said this morning that MTL took the aho offer to b-point first, and he wasn't interested. didn't know if it was term or the $$, but he added that point was interested in working something out with TB, so...boo.  don't know much about cirelli's ability outside of straight scoring stats, but i love point's game, and think he's the perfect 2C for buffalo at this...point.  bummer.

  7. The athletic has a story about how much cashish the sabres will have next summer (spoiler alert: the term "free agent frenzy" was used).

Can't read it all b/c I don't subscribe. Can't link it b/c I don't know where I saw it. Lazy Saturday here at lake winnepesaukee.

  8. if you're into period stuff, Gentleman Jack (HBO) is fantastic.  it's got it all in spades, writing/acting/costumes.  love it, and it's based on the main character's actual history via personal journals.

it's basically forced be to track down anything suranne jones (lead actress) has done.  just something about women with odd noses that really holds my attention.

did anyone like Succession on HBO?  i thought it was good.  some of those family members are thoroughly effed up.

  9. that was a losing battle by kucherov, i don't know why he bothered.  it actually made me giggle.  that doesn't scream toughness to me.  and point taking out frustration on skinner of all people?  again, i don't see touhgness there...maybe if he went after bo-lew or something.

granted, i don't see any toughness in buffalo's top 9 either, so there's that.
