  1. marty is playing unbelievable. i don't care which goalie takes this team to the playoffs, but marty keeps playing like this and it will be his.

i agree, that D is not helping out at all...

This team can score and can get stellar goaltending, and that's when they look unbeatable. Still, I've seen only a handful of games that made me say, "wow, the defense really shut XXXteam down." Just look at how often we get outshot.

  2. Did you see that freaking goal!!!!! He picks it out of the air point blank, drops it at his feet and fires all in less than a second. Unreal.

I guess that's what it takes...

    Toronto finally beats Biron, 2-1.

EDIT: I've noticed that Lydman is still giving the puck away. I missed the first 13 minutes of the game, and I've already seen two giveaways by him that could have easily turned into goals.

  3. This team has nothing to play for right now, except points and point totals. There's nothing for them to focus their attention on... they can't win the division, they can't fall too far in the overall standings, they can't get hurt badly by playing like crap.

Couple that with the games tightening up, the officials allowing more stuff going uncalled, and it's no wonder that they aren't sure which direction they should go. I'm no more happy about this than anyone else, but the truth is nothing is going to be proved until the playoffs start.

    Ta,

But the bottom line is that if the officials don't call the games the way they have been (and supposedly should be), they are done.

    Plain and simple.

  4. this is going to be a hell of a 4 day weekend in toronto for the boys... i won't be too worried if we wake up on monday.

Gotta love that NHL officiating. The Sabres deserve no excuses for this patheticness, but just like the Sabres, the NHL teased us early in the year into thinking the league wasn't a joke...Has this team gotten one favorable call since the Olympic break?

  5. What a tease...I really thought Buffalo finally had a team that wasn't a fraud. Yes, good teams have slumps. Yes, good teams play poorly at times. Yes, the Sabres have injuries.

But guys, Cup contenders don't go for 1/8 of a season looking as if it would take a miracle for them to get through a game without giving up at least 3 goals. And for the last 10 games, that's how they've looked.

  6. Miller looked bad on Thursday and he doesn't look good so far today. Rob Ray, for once, was right on during the break: Miller is going down too early. Possibly a sign of fatigue (Ray pointed this out) but my thought is it's just something he needs to fine-tune in his game right now.

Lack of support? Yes, two turnovers today have been a big problem. But 8 goals on Thursday, well, how much more support should a goalie count on?

I actually thought Miller kept the Sabres in the game on Thursday, but it seems to me that he's thinking a lot more about his saves/goals allowed, and it's starting to affect how he plays. He's a little tight, and I really hope he can do whatever Buddhist ritual he did to get in the fame of mind he's been in thus far to snap out of it.

Miller's still making some great saves and the Sabres are still getting quality chances. Add that to the fact that the Sabres just don't get phased by adversity, and I'm thinking Buffalo isn't out of this one yet.

  7. ok, the bleeding is over. end of 1st period. nothing good can be said on this. if this team wants to run with the big dogs it won't make dumb mistakes that lead to goals. they actually didn't play all that bad. they had some decent scoring chances, but they're down 0-2. they need a goal early.

They DO look pretty stupid today, don't they?

Anyway, the reason the Sabres are down 2-0 is because their goaltender has made big saves and our's hasn't. Is there anyone out there who is STILL glad that Ryan Miller didn't go to the Olympics?

  8. I'm far too young to have had the Timmy Ho-Ho experience, but my old man recounted the day of his death for me between periods earlier this year. I had no idea the scene of the car crash was so grizzly, and that Horton had been decapitated.

My father worked on the bridges at the time, and apparently it was made quite clear early on that the destruction was total. Only knowing the periphery, it was something to hear the whole story.

  9. I disagree. I think if it goes to OT, the Sabres are going to win. Miller has been at his best in high pressure situations this year...Breakaways, overtimes, shootouts. I expect that to continue if the game goes into OT tonight. If Biron is in net, then I could see an OT loss...

I hope that you are correct, sir.

I just feel that we will have trouble putting many starch products into their receptacle tonight. I'm sure Miller will play well, but Rory will be in the lineup tonight, so I expect Les Habitants to have more than a few good scoring chances.

All that being said, the Sabres are still a better team, so maybe we pull this one out.
