And what is your rationale for claiming Okposo was a fraud? Wins (or lack thereof)? You're going to lay that on him? Has he ever said anything publicly to give you the impression he was a fraud? Do you have some information about his interactions in the locker room? At practices?

    The character of the team.

I swear, all these losing years are karma for the fans cheering losses during the tank.

It’s professional sports in the year 2024. It’s not like that anymore. It’s a business. That’s why ROR, Eichel, and Sammy wanted out. You can’t blame them. The only folks with that type of loyalty is fans.

What happened to the heroic captain we were sold the last 3-4 years?

It’s win/lead first and business second for the great ones. Like Josh Allen.

Okposo is and always was a fraud.

  3. The guy will end up a top 5-10 goal scorer of all time. He has a goal scoring presence that I haven’t seen since Ovechkin in his prime.

We’re in no position to say no to any deal involving Matthews. That said he would hate it here.

I do have reason to believe the NHL has placed pressure on the franchise to end the drought aka not being a bottom five team in spending.

Bettman: “Here’s a buyer for the team Terry.”

    Pegula: “No!”

Bertman: “Alright but you need to hire a veteran coach now to get out of this mess or you’ll be selling whether you want to or not.”

    Pegula: “Fine. Lindy it is.”

Kevyn Adams: “After a very thorough search, me and my team have decided to hire Lindy Ruff!”

Adams is a mouthpiece perpetually glued to Terry's sphincter.  I believe nothing coming out of this sheep's mouth.

    His smile bothers me too.

A puppet with no individual agency. I’m amazed when anybody speaks about him as if he is making any of his own decisions.

Or that it appears there was no due diligence. I wasn’t on board with it but have come around. If anything it appears KA has put himself in the crosshairs if Lindy doesn’t work out which I’m ok with too.

I think Adams goes before Lindy goes. I could even see Lindy demanding a new GM next year after he sees what a fraud Adams is.

Truthfully, if Lindy is a bridge to the next guy that gives you a Cup run, I'm pretty ok with it.

My immediate issue is I do not see Lindy as a coach that can get this organization a Stanley Cup, but maybe I'm aiming too high. I still believe we have a good enough young core that that should be the expectation in the near future. But, after 13 years in the muck, if Lindy can get this team to 105 points and playing into late April/May...I should be fine with that. If he stalls out in the first/second round, you're in a much better position to attract a Stanley Cup calibre coach to get to the promised land

I just see THIS as a high floor/low ceiling hire. But it should lead to an improved product on the ice, which is a start.

He’s a bridge. We can’t talk Cup until we turn this culture around.

Let’s get out of this rut and get above water and the good options will start to open up. Lindy will get us to that point.

  8. Having chewed on it a bit I think:

    1. Lindy was the guy before the season ended. There was no coaching search.

    2. Lindy will get the players to work hard again and get us to the playoffs and break this ungodly drought.

    3. Once we become a playoff team again and hit the patented “Lindy Ceiling”, we look for the coach that puts us over the top, hopefully with the organization having a better reputation at that point.

I really really hope Lindy is the guy to get this club back in the playoffs. I feel a bit apprehensive at this signing. My personal preference would have been Gallant or Berube but I did love Lindy once. I am afraid if this fails yet again, it will tarnish his history as Sabres coach and the club goes another season of no playoffs. I wish Coach Lindy all the best this upcoming season. Really hoping for "the old Lindy magic"! For all I know, maybe Gallant and Berube's agents already declined that their clients would come to Buffalo and I don't think Brind' Amour is leaving Carolina. God bless you Lindy- here's hoping for the best!!

I think you nailed it. Nobody wants to work for Adams and Pegula.

Lindy was probably the only above average coach remaining who would interview.

Keeping in mind we probably would not even be looking for a coach if Granato could have solved our power play problems. 15 goals behind league average this year and 26 goals behind last years output. Fix those numbers and we were probably in the playoffs. I think Gallant would be a better choice for our team. I want a coach who will use our speed and skill players He has coached those types of teams.  I don't think we can bring in a coach who will want to retool half the roster to fit his style of coaching. We are not a heavy team that is going crash the net every play the way we are built now. Yes we need more of it but are you going to tell Thompson with the fastest slap shot in the NHL to stand 3 feet in front of the net? I want a coach who will continue to build on what we have and make it better not one who will try to rip it apart. A lot of things were going in the right direction toward the end of the year except the stinky power play which sucked all year and never got us goals when we needed them.

We need a coach that will help us win the Stanley Cup. I don’t care what he does as long as it happens.

Clearly the group lacks maturity and does not get the right leadership.  We can only hope a few of them actually know better and will take over.

On the fans booing and calling for DG to be fired - they should have been told to simmer down and do better.  Fans pay the bills.  Coaches get fired.  Life is not fair either.

On DG's firing  - the only help Adams should have provided was for to tell them to take responsibility for their part in the firing, otherwise say little or nothing.   The stuff about harder practices and needing to be pushed all sounds like whinny excuses, even if they are true.

I blame Adams for their robotic and scripted comments.

I've had my eyebrows raised at the "Okposo is a great leader" line we were fed out of nowhere in 2022 after the guy destroyed our salary cap for 4 years prior. I get he went through a tough time and came out of it, but that only can make you a good leader, it doesn't automatically make you one.

We need to reconsider the "leader" he was the last few years if this is how the player's behavior is once he and Granato are gone. Not much of a culture and not much winning to speak of. A lot of coddling.

The big hitters in the media addressed it because lots of people weren't smart enough to spot that the whole thing was based on a complete ***** story pushed by a ridiculous nobody on Twitter and regurgitated elsewhere as such obvious clickbait even Stevie Wonder would've been able to see it.

Or they responded immediately because it’s a touchy subject right now.

For baseless rumour (h/t Smell) mongering, it got the big hitters in the media to run it down. That tells me there's smoke but maybe not yet fire. No way Wawrow et al were going to ignore the Internet chatter.

Then the news that there has been an NHL approved party interested in buying the team. Think that happens by accident? Approval implies due diligence by the league re: the interested party. Seems like a big deal.

Does the league want TP to sell? Is he not selling out of spite? Was the offer merely too low?

So while this wasn't the pants anaconda I was hoping for, my garter snake is still at half staff as I write this.

If Thorny likes this post, all bets are off.

    You’re almost there.

The league is forcing him to sell.

    Think about it.
