My job has officially reached the point where myself and my 2 co-workers are being lectured at during our staff meetings. We took a pretty good hit last month when we lost 2 staff members (that aren't being replaced), but with all things considered, we've managed do get the work done pretty well since then and our time hasn't been terribly consumed - even with the weather hampering things. Yet, our manager continues to tell us that we can't drop what we're doing to help others because we're so ****in' busy.
I'm not sure if she realizes that we're not working on these "priority" jobs every waking second. I brought it up yesterday that we actually can take care of the simple stuff that takes 20 seconds to do in between these other priorities. In other words, we're capable of multitasking. I'm almost 40 years old...I don't need to feel like I was just caught pulling little Suzy's pigtails.
Somewhat related, I was at a job interview recently where I like the looks of the job I'm up for, but the pay is 8-10k less. I haven't been offered the job, but they seemed to like me enough. :unsure:
Everything is negotiable. If they really like you (and they're a solid business) they'll find a way to get you in. Use additional vacation as leverage. If they offer 8-10K less shoot back 5K less but +1 week of vacation.
On a side note...and maybe I'm off here....but the Buffalo "home town" discount has always made me shake my head. I haven't lived in Buffalo for 15+ years now, but occasionally I'll throw a resume up there just to see what's going on. What I've found (and again this about 3 interviews over the span of a decade) is that the offers aren't even close to what I can make elsewhere. And twice I've been told "we can get someone else cheaper." That's the one that kills me. It shows how shortsighted the business is. The propensity to save a buck on salary instead of getting the right person who can have a noticeable affect on your bottom line. (Not saying I'm the right person :thumbsup: ) I only mention it, because I've discussed with other Buffalo ex-pats who've run into the same thing, and a couple well placed HR folks who have told me it's a known entity.

My complaint is a lazy ass cop sitting at the end of my street writing tickets to people for rolling thru a stop sign as they make a right turn..just got in a big argument with him as I sat at the intersection for an hour to warn people he is there..which he did not take kindly to..I asked him if he really felt he was doing police work sitting in a neighborhood writing tickets to the ladies who lunch crowd...again something he did not take kindly to...asked him if 2 cars coming thru the intersection every five minutes presented a public safety concern...seeing as how I have lived here 8 years and never once have seen an accident there..he did not take kindly to that either.
This is the thrid day in last week this douch nozzle has been out there...I am sick of it.

I know I shouldn't be laughing, but I am. It must be because I know I'm far away and safe from this woman. But you're absolutely right, there's no way they should allow someone like that to keep her license.
I've got a slightly different variation of those people who wave you through that I can't stand. All the time I'll be waiting to turn left through two oncoming lanes of traffic. Someone in the first lane will stop and wave me through, which is nice and all, except for the fact that they don't think about that second lane with cars still flying through. They tend to get frustrated when I don't turn, but hey, I'd really rather not get creamed by that other car going through at full speed who doesn't have to stop just because another one did.
And this has me thinking of another one from this morning. I'm second in line waiting to turn left at a standard 2 lane road. Someone in the other direction stops to let the first car go, but for whatever reason, they refuse to turn. The stopped car then gives the old high beam flash to signal them... but they still refuse to turn. 3 signals later, the car finally got it and went. Of course, by this point, that stopped car had waited too long or otherwise they would have let me go too. So there's another slight delay in getting to work (that however is not a complaint).
In Georgia people stop at blinking yellow lights. I'd sayt least half the people driving have no idea how to handle them.
Also, I kid you not, the drivers test is given in a parking lot and not on the actual road....and is cancelled if it's raining.

Sunday afternoon I was on Grand Island Blvd just north of Fantasy Island and came across this scene just after it happened:
An elderly woman had "fallen asleep" at the wheel, drifted off the right side of the road, ripped off her oil pan and exhaust when she "passed over" a sewer entrance, then drove/coasted another 100-150 yds(!) through brush and between trees before her car died from lack of fluids. No skid marks it seems she "slept" even through that bumpy terrain until the car stopped on its own. We stopped to help and she got out of her car, said "I fell asleep - it happens all the time". She said her brother lived right around the corner and she was going to walk there. We called the cops and by the time the police showed up she was gone. We talked to the cops and he said "I think I know who you're talking about - she was driving around her son's apartment parking lot last weekend hitting dumpsters (plural)" Then she comes wandering back and I point her out to him and he says "yeah that's her".
I hope he took her license but somehow I bet she's out there "driving" right now.
Some 80+ year old lady hit my wifes car in a parking lot Sunday as we were loading groceries into it. Basically she was pulling into a spot and all of a sudden accelerated. Tried to drive off and some guy who saw the whole thing blocked her escape with his truck. No visible damage to our car even though she bumped it pretty good, so my wife didn't ask for insurance/info/anything despite my repeated suggestions we call the cops so it's at least on her record when she kills someone. Crazy ##### wasn't even apologetic and spent most her time cursing out the guy who blocked her escape.

I almost never post in this forum, but lately I'm finding myself wanting to rent Falling Down.
To keep the work gripes moving.......
The Lean Cuisine ArmyTM. The gaggle of Supply Chain hens that occupy the same floor as me at work. They'll spend hours in the break room cackling away. Making a mess....and apparently not a damn one of them seem to know how to make a pot of coffee when it runs out. I don't have to work with them, so I can't speak to their value to the company, but the seriously are in the damn breakroom every time I go in for a drink. Not to mention.....who the hell microwaves fish? The whole damn floor stank for hours.
Also, remember people.... Use your directionals when driving. I'm trying to get my integrated shock collar bill pushed through the House, so might as well get used to it now. And really? Is it that freakin' difficult?

I got home later than expected last night from work, and my dog had crapped on the floor and tracked it all through the kitchen and (carpeted) dining room. So before I could even sit down, I had to spot clean the rug, mop the floor, and give my dog a bath to get the rest of the crap off his feet. It's a good thing I love that little bugger. Why can't he just poop and walk away?
That's all right. You haven't lived until the dog craps on the floor and the damn Roomba tracks it all over the freakin' house.

Only smoke a handful a year. friend turned me onto Padron 64's a few years back. Know I like them, so stick with them (usually maduros). Grab a 26 ocassionally.

PA said that every goal is reviewed, but I don't think that's true. I thought it was by the request of the head ref. Either way, the Sabres deserved to get scored on with the way they were playing. Once they decided to play, Washington didn't score again, granted, they didn't have to, but I think they were still trying.
Every goal is reviewed in the booth. If the Video Judge sees something he can have the referees notified.

I saw them filming this not far from our house (SW of Atlanta). I thought I had come across a horrific car accident until I saw the camera booms.

I would love to see McCormick and Neil go at it, but Neil has had his chance against Kassian in the preseason and McCormick in the opener and didn't seem to want anything to do with them.

I meant wins and incorrectly wrote games. Vancouver was not a successful team until 1982. I think geography has more to do with Atlanta's failure to attract fans than does the team's lack of success. Put that team in a hockey city, and it will succeed.
So sorry to hear about Ottawa...
Atlanta's biggest issue is the location of their sporting venues. Both the Thrashers & Braves draw well on weekends, but the casual fan doesn't want to deal with downtown/midtown traffic nightmare to get there for a 7:08 start. Couple that with a less than mediocre team for a decade..........The ECHL team up in the northern burbs does extremely well. They should have built the arena in Marrietta or Dunwoody.
Butler was STOUT night. Breaking up odd man rushes, saved a possible goal and played with physicality.
Only disappointing moment for me was nobody called Eager on his d@#$ move...he wound up on Miller when he got the double minor, clearly knowing the play was dead as soon as he touched the puck. Not against the rules, but still a d@#$ move.

I'm going out and saying a must win game. Thrashers don't have many players on that team that scare me. Sabres could be more focused on the road. If there was ever a turnaround game it looks like this could be it. Wouldn't be surprised by a three or four goal win. Hope I'm not wrong, we need this one badly....
On paper, the Thrashers don't look scary, but the team is revamped this year. They are much more physical, which as we all know doesn't exactly play well for the Sabres.

Since the upgrade, I haven't been able to see the bar that allows you to go to previous/next pages in a thread....use fast reply...or reply without quoting. Any idea what can be causing this?

Haven't read the whole thread so forgive me if I'm repeating points....
I like the Bruins as an organization. They've always had grit and character, but these two lickbags (Arnold & Brickley) on NESN are Aaaaaaarrrrrghhh!!! I know RJ is a homer, but this is a whole different level.
Also speaking of homerism :D , Boyes and Lydman was at best entertaining, but anyone else think Boyes should have got an instigator. His loves were off long before Lydman's.

Man, I always doubt Vanek when he uses fake shots on shootouts, but that's what Huet must have been thinking cause he didn't even freakin flinch!!!
Regardless if you're a Habs or Sabres fan, great game.

All I can figure is they were making up for the non-call on MAir.
That's about as blatant as interference gets. Last Sabre to touch him was just inside the blue line.

* Great game by Vanek. I can't believe his patience on the GWG.
* Stafford looks like he can hang.
* I've always been a Soupy critic, but he's been by far our best defensman of late. He's also wearing off on Paetsche who has looked very solid.
* I love when Gaustad and MAir come flying into the offensive zone. You know someone's getting railed.
* Spacek has too many shots blocked. Fake the shot there "cannon."
* Is it me or did Jokinnen interfere with Briere on the Panthers 4th goal, giving Montador an open shooting lane?
* Panther is the Florida name for Mt. Lion.

I had to pitch a price increase to one of our larger customers today due to an unfavorable commodities enironment. As I'm standing in their reception area, MSNBC or something is on in the background giving a blow by blow account of the DOW tanking today and the softening commodities environment.... coupled with growth in China slowing.
CUSTOMER X: "Good to see you again, what is it we need to talk about today?"
ME: "M***** F*****!?!"
