He’s already been injured a couple of times since becoming a Sabre/Amerk IIRC (concussion — speaking of Connolly — and broken thumb I think), and as I mentioned in the Bills thread, I saw him and a bunch of the other Sabres at the Bills opener and I was surprised and how skinny he was.

Without that contract, most would like him as a role player. I think health is the bigger issue than whether he can still play. I would expect him in the bottom 6, where he probably belongs at this point of his career. But there may not be room in the bottom 6 and there might not be enough talent in the top 6 to exclude him.

I would never recommend fusion to repair a herniated disc on a young person. It pretty much haunts me everyday, between the loss of movement turning your head to the increased strain on the other discs which causes other troubles and pain. And it only gets worse with age, less motion and more pain.

 

So for Jack as a person, I have a really hard time going there.
