My yearly observation: If Clarence had just had just shown George the hot librarian right from the start and said, “Look, you had four kids, so you know you hit that at least four times,…” the movie could have been over in 45 minutes.

Or if he had told George, "If you had never been born, she would have needed glasses!"

As of now, I applaud the fans, they are making a huge difference imho.

"As of now..."  How many times have us fans thought, "Oh, man, we've turned the corner now!"  Only to crash back to reality the next game.  Until they win several in a row, and win most of a bunch of games in a stretch, I cannot believe anything has changed based on one game.

I don't know if I've watched enough hockey to state this as an opinion, so I'll ask it as a question: is Levi the right goalie for this team right now, with how they seem to want to play?

Watching them it seems like they're built around pushing the action--last night they were the best they've looked this year, and it reminded me of last spring. Their scoring spree in the second was predicated on just constantly getting down ice and throwing shots at net. I guess every team does that to some extent, but it seems like it results in scenarios where--when it breaks down--the opponents end up with some sphincter-clenching shots on our net because we've been caught unawares. And those seem to be literally the worst possible shot for Levi to block, which then end up doubly hurting us as balloon poppers, and our young, aggressive team suddenly looks timid and defensive, and no longer pushes the action.

There were 2 or 3 shots last night where I thought to myself, Levi would have let that by.

    Maybe I'm seeing it wrong.

If the Sabres could eliminate own-goals while Levi is on net, his GAA would be halved. I don't think he can be blamed for those.

For a different perspective, Vancouver sportsradio take this morning:

“Owen Power? Oh, yeah, he was the #1 pick a few years ago. I kinda forget about that guy

“It’s kinda funny with Buffalo. It seems like any time anyone remotely good there gets close to free agency, it’s like LOCK HIM UP! NOW! DONT LET HIM GET AWAY!”

It's understandable to forget about players on a perennial non-playoff team.

Wait until they get a look at him come playoffs 2024.  They will notice.  Power and others.  Playoff hockey is when the rest of the league, as well as many non-rabid fans, start to pay attention.

There's no chance this team will make a blockbuster move during the season IMO. Cozens mentioned it recently in one interview they want to do it together and i think Adams honors that besides some tweaks.

This kind of reminds me of the 1980 US Mens Olympic Team.  They had a tight unit forged by a good coach and tough training.  They were also very young.  After all the time they spent training together and meshing, coach Brooks brought in a good player to add some skill.  But he was considered an outsider by the team and was eventually bounced out.  It worked out well for that team, obviously.  It is curous that very few of that team went on to enjoy good NHL careers though.  They are still tight to this day.

  6. I love this song, but it is even more amazing how they recorded this....in an empty stadium (save for the everyday workers working there) and in the snow and cold.  Even though it is not in a hockey arena, it has hockey season vibes.  I appreciate all the common people on this board and our sometime ridiculous thoughts.

I'm in my late 40's.  Attened probably over 100 Sabres games in my life. Used to be a Bills Season ticket holder, probably close to 200 lifetime Bills games. Followed the teams since I a little kid (like 6 or 7 years old).  Other than going to a Hills Dept store in Depew when i was a kid and getting a Frank Lewis Autograph there, never, NEVER met a Bills or Sabres player, or walked by one, seen one in public in any way.  I would have thought just randomly I would have, but it just never happened to me (unless I am really not that observant and never noticed).

As a matter of fact the ONLY athlete of any fame I saw while not participating in their sport was Tony Stewart (Nascar). He was doing an autograph signing at a Home depot about 20 years ago (Auburn Massachusetts maybe?).  I was a vendor at the time in Home depot and I was workign on a Saturday and had to use the managers office to look up something, and he happened to be in the office sitting down before going to the signing.  10 seconds. Said Hi, he said Hi back.

Again, other than that, I really tried hard to think of this but despite all my time following and going to sports, no casual encounters with any Sabres, Bills, other hockey players, or any other athletes at all.  Now I'm kinda dissapointed in myself.

I'm older than you by quite a few years and we are in the same boat.  Other than watching my then-6-year-old brother getting OJ Simpson to sign his arm cast before a training camp practice, I don't think I have ever bumped into a professional athlete.

Although, one time while flying from Buffalo to Salt Lake City, my wife and I were seated near some players who were in the prospect tournament.  I have no idea who they were, but one of them was trying to stuff a huge leather duffel bag into the overhead compartment.  I asked him if that was the bag of pucks we traded for him.  His buddies sure got a laugh.

    2. Alex Tuch / Peyton Krebs / Östlund + trade.  At the time Adams had was trying to earn his credibility with the fans, Buff media and across the league as a GM that people thought was just given the job to be the owners guy.  Articles and discussion on this board at the time were certain he would get fleeced and end up with limited value from trading Eichel.  Up until Eichel's success in this year's playoff run, the consensus around the league would be that the Sabres won that trade.  Notwithstanding Adams set up as a foundation of the new team culture focusing on players that "want to be Sabres".  Despite LV winning the cup, I don't think anyone would want a do-over on one of the toughest trades (and the ramp-up to it) in team history

I liked this, too.  The fact that Eichel won the Cup with LV only helps Adams' reputation among league GM's since it is now a win-win trade.

  9. There have been a lot of discussions recently about who we should trade, when, and who we should get in return.

This made me remember some of the trades that I wish we hadn't made.

Who have the Sabres traded away that made you sad?  Not trades that you felt were not warranted or where we did not get good value.  But who was traded away that you personally liked and were sad to see them go?

For me, it was Brian Campbell.  I don't think he really wanted to leave, and his press conference was heartbreaking when he asked the fans not to boo him when he came back with his new team

    Who ya got?

So does anyone have a new opinion on Kisakov, Poltapov, Neuchev, Novikov etc. etc? Should we not draft any more Russians? Should we give up on these guys and write it off as a mistake where at least one or two of them might work out?

I personally don't have anything against common Russian people.  The few I know are good, decent people.  It is the people wielding power in Russia and oppressing its citizens as well as its neighbors that I despise.  I don't agree with Hasek's notion of throwing out all NHL players from Russia.  I think that is extreme, as well as a bit nutty.  But I don't begrudge him having such strong emotions.  He has always been a loose cannon.  The war in Ukraine undertsandably amps him up even more.

Sports should not being used to push political opinions but to be an escape from all of our terrible problems in life like politics, disease etc.

That's easy for someone to say who is not affected by the "terrible problems in life like politics, disease, etc."  If my family was being killed, tortured, or oppressed by another country, or if I was affected by a terrible dsease, I would do everything I could to get my message out.

Like you, I enjoy the escape from life's problems during a sporting event, movie, play, etc.  But I don't begrudge those who's lives have been seriously damaged by those problems and who speak out about it.  Now those who just whine about things.....?  Yeah, give it a rest.
