  1. Boston did trade Joe Thornton, then won a Stanley Cup.

Good drafting and signing Chara had a little more to do with that, but Thornton was seen as a floater in Beantown, and that is one thing they do not tolerate well.

  2. The BN interview with Marcus Foligno and Tyler Ennis this morning is pretty damning.

"Bruce doesn't accept losing and that's the bottom line here,"

"He's learning in a hurry that losing is really not accepted," Boudreau said. "You can't make positive things out of losing. ...The sacrifices you have to make, whether in practices or the game, are probably something him and Tyler haven't been used to recently."

"It's a different culture for sure, a great culture to be around," said Ennis, who has had no issues from the concussions that dogged him the last two years. "It's hard but it's fun."

Like I've said from day one, change the culture or give up hope.

  3. Thought you left? Anyway...

Rebuild what? So we can trade picks and all our prospects to get a “Kane” back?

Decided I wasn't going to let the little dictators have their satisfaction.

We need to build a team of players who play every night not a bunch of guys who only play when they feel like it or when they want a contract.

I am at a loss to explain how so many of you are so easily fooled by Kane playing well this year. HE IS PLAYING FOR A CONTRACT. Minute you sign him long term to big money he'll be back to the old Kane guaranteed. IF he does consider signing here it'd be only for the money, more likely he has zero desire to sign here and will sign where he wants to be - Vancouver.  Trade him while he is at top value, it's the only decision possible for future success.

  4. If you hadn't signed him to the big extension you could trade him easily. There would be a plethora of teams thinking Seguin/Boston. With the contract, MAYBE someone would think that, but I doubt it. Would seem like a huge gamble from their perspective.

Better plan would be to surround him with guys who work hard and don't take crap from kids. Teach him by example.

  5. Stay a fan, but many of us may need a break... but this is supposed to be my break from reality.... I will continue to follow... but slowly weening myself off... till they get some more talent...

That's all I meant too. Not going to watch all the games. Not going to say as much. Just talk about any actual changes they make, any REAL progress. It's too depressing to pay any real attention to right now.

  6. But you write four sentences about how the team is bad and then conclude that other posters have "pushed [you] out," and finish with a nice ###### you to the rest of the board.  You know, I don't think I'm going to miss your content all that much.

The f-u was directed at the small elite squad who think their opinions matter more than others. The ones who threaten that they will ignore you with the delusion that that would actually matter to anyone, like oh no if he ignores me I will be so gutted...............NOT the entire board who are mostly normal disgruntled fans. I didn't think that would need explanation. It was just for the judges and the critics.

  7. I guess when a team is this bad for this long you can't expect much better from a group of disgruntled fans. The team is a waste of my time and so is talking about them. Maybe I'll be back if and when JBot does something significant. Other than signing a slacker kid to an 8 million a year extension that is.

So congrats old timers, you pushed me out - f-you and this stupid team.

  8. Well we will differ on that one. I think puck possession is one of our biggest problems. We shoot it in all too often and rarely does our forecheck warrant that approach. We waste a lot of PP time going back to get the puck from our own end and earlier on also dealing with their short handed attempts on us.

  9. So you're the boss? You get to decide how people should speak or talk? You're free to spout any opinion you want to, but if I do it and you don't like it you get to be all snippy and sarcastic and that's cool right? Cause you've been here longer or you run it or whatever but you've spread your pee around and decided it's your space and people have to play by your rules.

Oh my what sacrilege that someone new might come along with different ideas. Some people have said they like my posts, some don't, so what? When it comes to sports talk every a-hole has an opinion and everybody thinks they know more than the other guy. It's universal. Again, so what? I don't attack individuals unless I am attacked first. I came here to talk Sabres. If you don't like me, don't read me. be mature enough to just ignore what you don't like - or be a total , your choice I guess.

  10. Power plays can't remain static. Everybody studies film, everybody notices tendencies. Just about every PP has a great year and then not as much the year after. Teams learn how to defend them. For long term success you have to keep the tempo fast and you have to vary it depending on who you play. We have a lot of players with very predictable habits and most of all, we do not pass the puck well.

  11. Considering all the high picks, we've had more busts than successes. We were supposed to have a full cupboard when  lot of these guys were 18 or 19 with bright futures. Guys like Fasching were considered top prospects and have basically amounted to nothing. Perhaps we don't know how to develop players well, but for the most part it has just been poor drafting.

The good news (lol) is that most of the prospects Murray traded way haven't amounted to much either :)

  12. I agree that all teams have some issues and different personality types but it's a question of degree and priorities. Work hard play hard is fine, but you have to actually show up and work hard to earn the reward, not just expect the reward as a given right.

Compared to most other teams I look at how dreadful the home record is. There was a time when we were a good team at home and now all too often we come out flat and play worse at home than on the road. You can have curfews and such on the road, keep teams close, but at home it's harder to police them so to speak and so the home record shows the results.

It's either that, or they just don't care.

  13. This idea speaks to what I've been saying since the day I got here - it's the culture that has to change. It's gone on for too long to be one guy or one incident. I don't think there is any question their are poisonous components on this team, it's up to JBot to figure out who they are and deal with it or nothing will ever change.

I have to assume they do not think Eichel is a problem however, or else they wouldn't have signed him to the big extension.
