  1. I heard on WGR earlier that the reason for the distinction is because a player (cannot remember the name) born in Europe and moved to Canada at age eight has more games.

Yes, that player was Stan Mikita, a Blackhawks hero of the 60s and 70s.... and the inspiration for the fictional "Stan Mikita Donuts" in Wayne's World. I think Mike Meyers did not want to have to pay to use Tim Horton's. :D

Edit: Sorry, I see this makes me the fourth or fifth guy to say it. Who knew there were so many old folks on this site?

  2. May 19, 1975,

There's an unusual spring heat wave in Buffalo as the Sabres and Flyers prepare for Game 3 of the finals the next day at the Aud. The temperature rises as the Flyers, leading the series two games to nothing, threaten to turn up the heat on the Sabres even more. In the rafters of the Aud, above the catwalk, two terrorist bats hold a super-secret meeting. "Tomorrow is the day we take back our home!" one says. "The ice will be bathed in the blood of the skating infidels!"

"But beware of the squat, slow-skating one... he may be onto us...."
