  1. Trying to move on from this religion derail...

I've read a lot of stuff about Bylsma's "system" and how he forced it and wasn't adapting to his players.

I'm admittedly much more knowledgeable about football than hockey so I was wondering if someone could explain what Bylsma's system was. I'd also be curious to hear what other systems folks feel are better. It's easier for me to judge NFL hires (runs a west coast offense and a Tampa-2 defense) but I honestly don't know what hockey systems are en vogue.

Maybe they lost FAITH in him. Same as the uproar over Wrecks and his system. Players hinted to that with Wrecks also,

  2. Do people just not see the lol thingy?

Y'all need to lighten up. This all is just so stupid.

Terry, just get a good GM, get a good coach, and win.

LOL or not, you weren't aware that after last nights BS that this post would fire everyone up? That never crossed your mind?  Like you didn't know what you were doing...... OK..... right.

  3. It was a long time ago though I do remember him mixing up lines a lot towards the last couple years he was with us IIRC. Compared to how DB faired here though it would be a vast improvement. He does more with less.

I think he'd get a lot out of our players, Ruff was passionate on the bench too. Not sure how that resonates with players, but as a layman fan I loved it.

I always liked Ruff but I think he needed a change to shake him up. That said I still think they need to look away from Ruff. He won't get a fair chance in Buffalo. Oh and...Actually I should have made it more clear that I was talking about DB and his game lineups.

Sure I remember Ruff getting angry. As a fan you want to see the coach go to bat for the players. I can't say I ever saw any emotion out of Bylsma.

Funny, whenever I think of Biysma and Murray together, it reminded me of two guys who haven't seen each other in twenty years and have nothing really to talk about anymore.

  4. Yeah good point. DB does seem to have to need his system in place.

That's definitely one thing I loved about Ruff, he seemed to be able to coach so many different types of Sabres teams throughout the years.

    Have I mentioned that I ❤ Lindy Ruff? ☎

I can't tell you how many game line ups I've seen him put together that had me saying, what on earth is he thinking here? That goes for defense pairing also. I know he drove me nuts game to game.

  5. I wonder if DB will be pickedd up by anyone this offseason? That's something that hasn't been discussed I don't think. I do think he's a good coach, but I don't think he's able to adjust to the players that he has.

Come to think of it, he can't cause he's still under contract with us right? Or does us buying him out release him?

Not being able to adjust to to the players makes him a not so good coach.

  6. I liked the way the Don Maloney handled is Coyote situation. Limited money, uncertain future with ownership and lease issues. Three times to the playoffs under those pressures. Didn't want to see him go but it was either he or Tippett that was going to get canned and the owners sided with Tippett who wanted more power.

He's now a scout for the Flames. Hope they at least give him an interview.

  7. It means that someone can post stories they've heard about RB and describe them as stories they've heard.  That's all that's happened -- plus someone else weirdly getting on a high horse and being fairly obnoxious about it.

No.  Whaley has been the GM for 4 (awful) seasons.  His records were 6-10, 9-7, 8-8 and 7-9.

Are you saying that the team president and the GM are not accountable for the team's performance?  Really?

While RB may have participated in negotiating the lease, there is NFW that the decision to make it economically very difficult to move the team came from anyone other than Ralph.

High horse? Obnoxious? Strike a nerve did I?   Don't want a response. Don't post.

  8. https://twitter.com/sn590gbrady

Talked to a few NHL people today - "beyond unprofessional" & "aghast" were terms used to describe Pegula actions today....

It's not that you decide to move off of Tim Murray or the more-accomplished Bylsma, but the day AFTER the Eichel story is a bad, bad look.

So because of the EIchel story the Sabres were supposed to be paralyzed?

So he's saying Jack and his agent are lying when they say he didn't say those things?  I guess he shouldn't have asked Tim and Dan what they thought about it then.  Are they the NHL people they talked to?

  9. I'm on a pro sports team dedicated message board, so what I say is presumably a melange of fact, opinion, rumor, speculation, and inference.

It'd be a sad and boring sports team message board that trafficked only in facts.

That doesn't mean we're able to post totally untrue things about people and blow it off as a message board does it? If someone post something I would like more information on I'm going to ask about it. If they can't or won't back it up, then I'm going to say it's BS until I learn otherwise.

  10. Well, I'm hearing that he was in the Pegulas' ears to s-can GM TM. I'm reading screen caps of texts from a team source who said Brandon was envious of the public popularity that GM TM enjoyed for his quirky style.

He's a bad guy who continues to exert his influence where it has no place.

Is she not a co-owner of the Sabres? She might not be, strictly speaking.

Those are GM TM's guys, I reckon.

A fan of facts on a message board, then? Haha - yeah, definitely good luck to you, then.

Fwiw, I've met Brandon twice. Not like a one-on-one sit-down, but peripheral interaction. The more extensive of the 2 meetings was at a 10-person (round) table under a tent at St. John Fisher. My own personal opinion (not a fact!), based on a mostly visceral reaction: He's not a good guy. Is most likely a bad guy. He's not a guy I want involved in managing my favourite teams,

So am I to assume that because you are on the message board, what you say is not based in fact? I can sort out the difference since this is not the only place I get information from. Trouble is  there is too much parroting going on. National media picks up on local media and sells it as the truth. No reason to fact check right? That's the world we live in today. Fact checking needs to happen now more than it ever has. Too many trying to make a name for themselves to care about the actual facts in a report. That's where we're at. Run with it and deal with the results later.

  11. Yeah - no thanks.

Maybe another time - after I've had a few pops.

I'm fully anonymous here, but they are not the sorts of stories I would generally repeat.

Btw, they're not totally aberrant either. They just indicate that he's a total, complete Delta Bravo.

    A fan of Brandon, then?

    Good luck to you, sir.

A fan of facts, not hear say or speculation passed off as facts.  Not singling you out, many here say the same thing and their response is sidestep the original request for facts on their views.  If I seen the facts presented I might tend to agree, I don't know since I haven't seen anything other than speculation

  12. Dear Lord.

    Dude.

    Nice echo.

His various misdeeds and oily sycophantic ways are too many, too pervasive to detail.

Also, if you've spent some time in any number of southtown watering holes, you'd hear very credible stories about that guy to make your skin crawl. He is a feckin' nozzle.

One quick item I have in mind: There were confirmed reports that he coached up Rex Ryan before his interview so as to school him in the ways of shmoozing TPegs. If that ain't making sure your bread is buttered on every which side -- costs to the franchise be damned -- I don't know what is.

Too many to detail sounds like "I don't know."

Credible stories heard in a bars?

    Reset,,,,try again

  13. Probably as many times as Terry has sat down and talked to the fans (through the media). It goes both ways. Why is he hiding?

What do you want a personal invite to all Sabre meetings?   He said countless times that they prefer to let the players and GM be the ones out front. That I have seen him say in interviews. I do not trust one thing the media writes unless I see the person say it. Too much parrot/tabloid journalism going on now to trust some reports. No common sense and logic to some of it.

  14. I lay the blame for this entire mess that is the Sabres (and Bills) at the feet of the dim-witted Terrence M. "TerryPegula. He created this "management team." The Sabres have fired three coaches since 2013 (going on 4 with Byslma) and the Bills are on their third coach in three years. He created the country club atmosphere with his $10 million locker room... He helped pick and keep many of these defective players with horrible contracts starting with Leino. He encouraged and loved the tank and set us up for the big mutiny we are now seeing. Terry and his wife have made the Sabres and Bills the biggest laughingstocks in the NHL/NFL and I don't think we're ever coming back. Looks to me like he's going to "close out" Buffalo professional sports. The fans are already running screaming towards the exits.

    "TerryPegula is NOT MY OWNER.

You seem to know a lot about them. How many times have you sat down and talked with them?

  15. According to people very close to the team I am not, and it started early on last year...Paul Hamilton, Sabres beat reporter, said pretty much its one of two things...either they don't want to play his system or Bylsma is asking them to do things they cannot do or cannot figure out how to do.

People in Pittsburgh said it's pretty much the exact same thing that happened there---the star players didn't like his system or coaching style or whatever...you CANNOT succeed as a coach when you alienate your best players, doesn't matter who is right.  Talent still wins games at the end of the day.

Either way, this appears headed for a messy divorce this offseason.

Did he borrow this from what was said about Wrecks Ryan? Sounds familiar to me.
