  1. Just for some clarification about the circumventing the salary cap ala Bowman. The reason he was able to do it is because when I player goes on IR the AAV temporarily doesn't count towards the cap. Once the regular season ends there is no more salary cap, so if an IR player returns in the playoffs his AAV won't count against the cap.

So it's a moot point until at least next year

  2. Kulikov is a UFA after this season. No need to protect him. Bogo, Risto, McCabe are our 3 protected D-men. I think if we sign Vesey we really have to re-evaluate our lineup. All of this Fowler talk I think is ridiculous he is over-rated and has horrible analytics, his only plus is his cap hit and that isnt the kind of player I would be interested in. I would look to try and pry Lindholm free with any combo of Ennis, Bogo, Girgensons, Foligno, Moulson, a second level prospect, our extra second rounder in 2017. If the deal didn't involve Bogo that would require a second move to stop us from losing him for nothing in an expansion draft. It all depends on Vesey. We have too many guys ready to crack the lineup. Also Gorges has two more years left on his deal. Only Franson and Gionta are UFA after the season. So to sum it up use our plethora of forwards to reel in Lindholm and Use Bogo to add a prospect and picks that would help replace the Kulikov rental.

Hoping to extend Kulikov.. Vesey would be exempt I think(someone please clarify). I just think it's likely we don't do much more until next offseason

  3. I'm not sure we should make another move. I may be putting too much stock into the upcoming expansion, but the way I see it, if we acquire anyone worth getting, they would be plucked anyhow.

We will have to leave either one or both of Moulson, Ennis as forwards by the look of it, a contract dump of sorts for Ennis unless he shows signs of positivity this year. Adding another skilled forward and we lose a skilled forward.

Defense we have to protect Bogosian, which is a shame. Risto and McCabe I would think get protected, so we potentially lose Kulikov. Ducks are trading Fowler for the same reason we shouldn't pick him up.

It might mean missing the playoffs by a hair this season, but ultimately I think we waited too long to lose assets because we couldn't wait another year.

  4. Except nobody has any idea what happened and you're saying he needs to get smarter. Nobody has any idea what happened last time except for Hoss's vague snippet from the other day.

One thing is 100% fact and certain. He hasn't been smart enough to avoid being investigated. There is no excuse, sure he did nothing wrong, but he has done nothing right. Most NHL players respect the team and the league enough to avoid situations like this.

  5. Maybe I've lost track of the NHL salary situation, but $4.5 million a year for a defenseman seems pricey-ish.

I think he means we didn't pay too much to acquire him...

I really like the trade, Pysyk wasn't the greatest fit here, and I strongly believe Kuli has a higher ceiling. he has had a rough few years but did average .5PPG in 2010-11 season. He is a pick moving offensive defenseman, probably my favorite trade Murray has made.(O'reilly was a great trade just a bit steep I think)

Only downside is that now I have to change my hockey pool name from: Defy laws of Pyskys. It brought me good luck this year

  6. Well, I'm a Sabres fan. So I'll support my team and my players. But even when he was a Jet, I never had an issue with him like others. Believe it or not, not everyone here did. But Winnipeg was never a good fit for Kane. City or team.

I was happy to see him leave Winnipeg. Happy to see him leave the Jets and go right to the Sabres.

I hear ya man, I was upset when he went to Buffalo because I'm not a fan of his. I had really hoped he would step up for us and be the player he can be, but he hasn't been. I know he hasn't even been charged with anything but at the same time they investigate things for a reason. It's bad publicity for the team or the league.

  7. Yes, I lie about living in Winnipeg, because it just makes me such a badass to pretend to be living in such a flashy city. Eye-roll.

And what exactly am I contradicting? People definitely thought that stuff about him here, him being a cancer, whatever, all of that. Never said they didn't. Doesn't make them right. Is your point that only people who hate Kane can live in Winnipeg?

Just never met a Manitoban who wasn't happy to see him gone. I mean when he was in Winnipeg, Most thought he was bigger then the team. The way he played the game, the way he composed himself on and off the ice. Just seems like your downplaying the issues he had here. The way I see it, it was him and not the fans, though they did not help anything.

  8. Until he's actually arrested for something, or somebody actually presses charges against him for sexual assault, I'm going to keep assuming that he's a normal young black athlete: under the microscope for everything.

Remember when LeSean McCoy was accused of a bunch of BS when two off-duty Philly cops started ######? I'm starting to think that this is the same kind of thing.

Prudes. Not the word that I'd use.

Great point! Look at all the investigations that Subban, simmonds, byfuglien, reaves etc.. have all been a part of. tough being a black player in the NHL I tell you

Thorny I'm really questioning the fact you live in winnipeg. you have a different opinion then literally anyone I've talked to manitoba wide. The consensus on Winnipeg was "wow, I can't believe someone was willing to pay an incredibly steep price for a locker room cancer. "

  9. Except that we know that if Murray didn't pay the first for Lehner, Ottawa was sending him elsewhere - whatever Our next best offer was, it wasn't good enough. Not sure who we were bidding against - Sharks or Oilers, probably - but we paid "market" value. The Sharks paid a first for Martin Jones in the same market, a goalie with a similar pedigree.

You and others may say we would have been better off grabbing a cheaper option like Neuvirth or Talbot or Lack and time may prove you right.

I always thought Darcy Regier was a very good asset manager, better than Murray has seemed.

IT does seem so far though that Murray has a more cohesive vision for a team.

I think you would be hard pressed to find a GM that could sell as high as Regier, that being said I think it's a unanimous decision that Murray has a better eye for young talent. Schneider was probably the most recent proven #1 goalie to get moved, and he fetched a ninth overall.

I respect the fact that when he wants someone, he goes out and gets them. I do think he overpaid though, I mean it earlier of a buyers market for Kane and O'reilly and he paid a steep enough price. I would prefer that over Eichel and Reinhart having nobody to play with though.

Still kind of hoping the Kane trade was more of a victim or circumstance, hopefully next year he scores 50 and we can move him for someone with a better attitude.

Just for the record I want to comment on the " kane plays a tough game that's why he's oft hurt. I disagree with that entirely. I don't have the stats but if someone wants to look into it, pretty sure I'm correct in saying, there is absolutely no correlation between the amount of hits a guy lays and how many games he misses.

isn't this what a GM is supposed to do.....find what he wants and go get it? there will always be some with the "we overpaid" argument.....this team is much better since Murray took over....getting O'Reilly was probably his best move....Kane and Bogo are big upgrades...

Again, no stats to back this up, but pretty confident that if you found the stats Bogo has not been an upgrade, let alone big upgrade to Myers.

  10. The "normal" was because he made a mistake, just like we all do. The "Canadian" was because he crashed into a Timmy Ho's.

I promise I wasn't trying to insinuate that young Canucks are more likely to drunk drive than Americans. I'm sorry it came off that way. The teasing comes from a place of love (unless you keep mentioning the damn gold medals!).

Well here is to hoping Eichel becomes so good, that he's able to win a few golds! If that were the case I'd be okay with it.

  11. I honestly don't think I'd like O'Reilly as much as I do if he hadn't crashed into Tim Horton's.

He's such a serious dude, and it's fun to consider that there's a normal Canadian kid behind his professionalism.

Mods seriously? this is clearly a negative Canadian stereotype. being a normal Canadian kid has more to do with professionalism, then it does with driving drunk... I guess we're all too drunk from lighting the USA up every 4 years.

I do think that its a joke of a nomination, just looking at previous winners. I don't see what he did this season to qualify his name being on the trophy with the others

  12. Bust. Every trade Murray made sucks.

Trades away all kinds of players and picks who might play in the NHL for China dolls who have already passed their 23rd birthday.

Can't win a lottery to save his life. hired a coach that only improved the team by 20 points, only improved the PK and PP by a dozen places, and cut the shots against by 10, and failed to match the highest total of come from behind wins in the league by one.

He's had a whole year and a half on the job and he's done nothing.

No longer being the absolute laughing stock of the NHL isn't enough to make me praise the ground Murray walks on. I'd like to see him make a trade where he doesn't massively overpay because we have 10000 picks and prospects. He improved the team and you can't argue that, but there is most definetly and argument there.

  13. OV. He's been the best player on the ice for the last decade. He skates, he scores, he's strong and scrappy, he carries the title of sniper and power forward just about equally. He's also fun, and funny, and dear god I hope he wins the cup this year.

This is good. IMO one of the games greatest snipers to ever lace 'em up.

Toews is up there too. Professional on and off the ice

  14. Of course not.

What's the alternative? Oh, shoot like Foligno: Into the crest on the goalie's chest every time.

Then again, in the All Star Game and in Sabres Showdown, when they did the accuracy shooting at the targets at each corner, you saw how even the league's best had trouble hitting those targets. At the speed the NHL is played, you're not going to routinely hit the target (the part of the goal where the goalie ain't). So take a lot of shots.

I can't use the multi quote, so I'm selecting this post.

The fact that Kane takes so many shots, is your argument, but it's mine too. I don't have the #fancystats to back this up. I would encourage someone to look it up though. I'd say the majority of his shots are from low percentage areas. He doesn't a good goal per game ratio, in relation to his shots. I'm saying it doesn't help your cause when the goalie knows your going high glove everytime. I've been watching him play since his junior days, he's always been a very skilled player. I'm not saying we should trade him, I'm not saying we should keep him.

What I am saying, is if he wants to compare himself to a 50 goal scorer, he had better be doing some hard work to back it up. I don't mind cocky if your putting the team on your back at the same time. I do think being cocky can be a problem, when you think your better then everyone around you.

  15. Kane has all the tools necessary to be an Elite player. The fact that he isn't Elite yet, at his age is a red flag. He said he can take hockey more seriously. yeah, that sounds about right. I'd like to see him work half as hard as he does on the ice, off it.

Everyone here is so quick to defend him. I mean look at his tracksuit record. The last 2 season he publicly stated he'd score 50 goals. I mean it's pretty obvious he thinks he's already Gods gift to hockey so why work at it?

Its all good and fine to go out and have a good time, Take it from me, 50 goal scorers don't just have skill. they put in countless hours of work. not just team practices, they have the skill and the work ethic/heart/drive; whatever you want to call it, it's what kind of player wins you championships.

My bottom line is, hes a damn good player, but that's not enough. Yeah, your welcome to spend all your free time having fun of you want. but when your firing it high and wide everytime your on the ice. they're most certainly isn't room for you in the core of my team. regardless how much skill you have.
