  1. How about offense? This team has been BEYOND boring for years and the atmosphere in the building is just ughhh, terrible. Does Myers bring that energy back? No, he doesn't. Someone like Kane paired with McDavid or Eichel will bring that energy back. Playoffs may not be back next year but excitement will be. As a season ticket holder, there is not ONE player on this team that makes me notice him. Would I rather have a NJ shut down type of D or a fast paced big hitting O? Where the hell is all this Lemieux talk coming from? Seriously, this is the kid that is pushing people over the ledge. Myers and Armia were automatics in this trade and extra assets that people did not want to give up is why Buffalo has Kane (not Montreal, Philly or the others that wanted him).

Exactly. I bet every other team in the NHL wanted Kane and TM had to make an offer Winnipeg couldn't refuse.

  2. If you're a good team that sucks at scoring goals (hello, Nashville), why wouldn't you part with a draft pick to take a chance on Drew Stafford? Nashville traded last year's first round pick for a guy whose only skill is being tall.

    Well, you can't coach tall.

  3. GoDD, both Gaustad and Kassian were on THIS team THIS year. Where was this toughness ? Where was this grittiness? Where was the leadership that these two exhibited? I never saw it. You can't lose something you never had in the first place. If Kassian was the kind of player we wish he was he would have made damn sure he went after any Bruin, didn't even have to be Lucic. in any game he was in the line up against them. We didn't get that from him and I do not believe that Ruff was stifling his physical ability. Kassian just doesn't have it.

  4. He played 1:50 per game on a very good power-play.

The kid is not void of talent, you have to weigh it against what a Kassian can bring. If both players maximized their 'potential", Kassian would be the more prized prospect.

Except on this team. where centers are sorely needed.

I have been disappointed with Kassian, I thought he would come in and raise hell but he was barely noticeable.

  5. If there is one certainty in life it is that constant complainers will constantly complain. It is in their DNA. There is no way we move Stafford and/or Roy, have the Sabres miss the playoffs by 2 points and not have 2 more whipping boys step up to LB's plate.

When we won a ######-ton of games in 2006-2007 - do you know who the biggest complainer was around here? PA (shocking, I know). Why? We weren't winning "the right way"....

When the team gets blown out - people just want to be competitive.

When the team is competitive - people just want to win.

When the team wins - people just want to make the playoffs

When the team makes the playoffs - people just want to go deeper into the playoffs

    etc...

It never stops for most people.

I am not a chronic complainer, never have been, but I see something very wrong with this team and those trusted to lead this team. Vanek, Roy, Pominville and Stafford are not, and have never been, able to carry this team anywhere. Now maybe a new GM or coach could change that, or maybe not. but if nothing is done, this team, with these 4 players as a our core group, will never bring us the Cup. Change the Front Office, or change the players. but as it stands now it's beyond my optimism to believe they can win it all.

  6. Nah, nothing tangible that happened with the roster. I just got a bad feeling, especially with every hockey publication touting the Sabres as Cup favorites. I can't remember any team that I root for living up to lofty expectations. You might want to exclude the early 90's Bills but alas they did not win the big one.

I kinda know what you mean. It doesn't seem right that any of us should actually believe that we have a great shot at winning the Cup. We are fans of Buffalo sports teams and we always, always, get kicked right in the groin. I felt this way for most of last season. We'll blow it, we'll hit the skids, our goaltending will fall apart, we won't hit the open net to win the game.

But that team last year never, ever gave up, on themselves, or the game. They were downright dangerous in the third period of almost every game. They didn't blow the shot. They made the save or, when the goalie was beat, a defenseman cleared the puck out of harms way. I got so that I stopped waiting for Sabres to blow it and just sat back and enjoyed the ride. I'm going to try and do the same this year, right out of the box, starting tonight.
