Buffalo Sabres: A roster reckoning coming
John Vogl of The Athletic: Alas, the Buffalo Sabres’ offseason could be very good or an unmitigated disaster.
Buffalo may offer sheet Kasperi Kapanen then sign Jake Gardiner from Toronto for starters. Then, the Sabres acquiring Jacob Trouba with the assurance they sign him would be quite the coup.
The Sabres are hoping players like Victor Olofsson and Alexander Nylander can step up is a bit of a stretch but possible.
Finally, this would rid themselves of Rasmus Ristolainen and several fringe players as well.
However, there is a bad scenario. Buffalo finds themselves unable to re-sign Jeff Skinnerand he walks for zero. The roster looks the same minus Olofsson and Nylander getting second line minutes. Worse, the Sabres would be learning a new system without any real upgrade in talent. If anything, this represents a downturn.

I Wonder what is taking so long? I would have thought 1 or 2 assistant coaches would have been reported by now.

Housley had 4 assistants plus a goalie coach, so 5 total. They also have 2 video coaches.

Who do you think Ralph Krueger will hire as his coaching team? Who should he hire?
I think a Bob Boughner would be a good assistant to get.

The Sabres need to pick in the top 8. I feel there is a big drop off / risk after the top 8 players

Girgensons is a natural 3 center. He'll be there.
Then who will be the other 2 top centers?

Ennis & Girginsons appear to be 1 and 2 then who?
Hodson is better at wing due to less defensive responsibilities.
Rienhart seems like he could use another year to get stronger without taking the punishment of the NHL.
Grigorenko could use a year in the AHL.
Larrson has struggled to score at the NHL level.
Torry Mitchell is a 4th line guy

Linus Ullmark should be getting more pub as a high end Sabres prospect. He is leading the Swedish men's league in save percentage.

More to come on #Sabres bid to host NHL scouting combine. The pitch is to host the annual pre-draft event once HarborCenter opens.
It makes a lot of sense if the scouting combine were to come to Buffalo. BUFFALO IS THE IDEAL CENTRAL LOCATION (less than 8 hour drive) with Toronto, and Ottawa to the north, Detroit and Chicago to the West, Pittsburgh and Columbus to south, Boston, New Jersey and New York to the East. It also will have the best facilities available for that type of event.
It would be wise for the NHL to take advantage of this opportunity.

Stafford definitely could use a change of scenery.

He scored 31 goals in 62 games in a contract year. The next most he has scored was 20. He certainly has talent to be a very good player in the league but his work ethic and character has to come into question.

I heard Andrew Peters was complaining about not having a pension.
Can you imagine making a half million $ per year for 6 years working only 3-4 minutes a night for only about 35 nights a year. Poor guy.

Watched the Christian movie called “What If” with the wife last night. It had Kevin Sorbo and Kristie Swanson. It was a nice, enjoyable movie.
