  1. So I'm transforming a room in my house into a playroom for my kids. I was putting some shelves together and accidentally knocked the lamp over in the middle of the floor and broke the bulb. It was a compact fluorescent bulb, which I find out after the fact has mercury in it, although it's a miniscule amount. My wife flips out because mercury can be very bad for kids and I ended up having to get the carpet replaced doubling the cost of changing the room. That doesn't even contemplate the cost of the fact that she went through the entire house and threw out all of our fluorescent light bulbs and replaced them with incandescents.

  2. I was watching the game on NHLN last night. It was the TSN feed of the Calgary game. It was in HD but I noticed that it just didn't look right to me. I then noticed that there was the banner across the top of the picture that has the score and time on it. Fine. But then I noticed that it was not at the top of the screen. It was actually down a bit and the picture above it was in shadow. Whenever play was in the middle of the ice you could not see anything on the far side of the rink because of this stupid banner.

So my complaint is more of a question. What kind of jackass says to themselves,"Ya know, that HD picture is just too darn big. I think we should cover almost an eighth of it."? Oh yeah, TV producers who cant get out of their own way. And I did measure it. They covered up almost an eighth of the picture

I love when versus puts on their "interview window" that takes up a good chunk of a bottom corner of the screen while the play is going on.

  3. there you are, ive been looking for you. apparently you carry some weight around here (i.e., a few people thiink you have some "pull") can you please switch my title -- i dont want to be on the 4th line anymore. see my posts re: this. i ve been posting the best stuff on this site for a few months and deserve a call up. me on the 4th line is like putting ron francis, in 1987, in the AHL. it is just a slap in the face. thanks man.

I'm not sure I want you on my line with this kind of attitude towards the mods. ;)

  4. My heater broke new years day. I had a guy out the next day to fix it. The motor he put in has a bad vibration to it and he told me he'd replace it. That was 6 weeks ago. The excuses I've heard so far:

    1) Part didn't come in

    2) Family emergency

    3) Lost phone number

    4) Gout (my favorite so far)

Was supposed to call me Monday or Tuesday this week to let me know when he's coming out. Surprisingly I haven't heard from him yet. I can't wait to find out what this week's excuse will be when I call him today. In the meantime my heater wakes me up in the middle of the night because it vibrates to the point I can almost feel it in the floor if I stand under where it is.

  5. Not only was the HD quality worth it, but the Chicago station feed showed the fan contest between periods. A woman in a low cut dress scored a goal from center ice, and in jumping in celebration, came right out of the top of her dress. I love HD.

I fast forwarded through the period breaks because I was watching the game late and apparently missed a girl fall out of her top.

  6. That was truly a win that showed the fans that the sabres still have the heart of a champion. They played horrible during stretches, but they found a way to win, and that's all that matters. Off to montreal.

I had just been thinking recently that I hadn't had the feeling in a long time that when we're down in the third we're going to pull the game out somehow. Hopefully this game is a step back in that direction. That being said, we can't be taking periods off like we did in the second last night. We also have to start burying our chances. I guess that's a good thing, that we're generating some good chances and they'll eventually start to go in again...

  7. That's the same thing everyone was saying at the end of our road trip out West last year. They will snap out of it.

I agree. Let's put everything in perspective. Yes, we're not playing our best lately, but we're still 9 points better than the rest of the entire conference. They will snap out of this funk.

  8. I'm not happy with the third period, but if it weren't for some amazing goaltending by Nittymaki in the first and second, it would have been a blowout. Imagine Esche facing some of those early shots!

That and the fact that a lot of our shots were missing the net. We had a bunch of great scoring opportunities we didn't capitalize on. I distinctly remember Hecht firing one wide when he was right on the doorstep.

  9. You could tell from the opening face off they came to play today. The were hitting, fighting (and usually winning) the battles in the corners, and in general making things happen. The penalties were a little troublesome, mainly because they led to all three Ranger goals, but even strength they took it to them pretty good!

  10. Today they just need to show some of the hustle that won them 11 games so far. Last night that was sorely lacking. I distinctly remember two power plays we had where the Leafs cleared the puck and then beat us to it down the ice. That is unacceptable. Hopefully they've gotten their wakeup call and will come out flying today.

  11. Gerber didn't have to do much in the 2nd - all those "big opportunities" Davidson was talking about were shot right into his his pads & midsection - we apparently can't shoot upstairs tonight.

I was thinking the same thing when I was watching the game. Why aren't they going upstairs?

  12. My three stars

    3-Miller

    2-Connelly

    1-Briere

    :D

    I've gotta go with

    1 - Briere

    2 - Team - D

    3 - Miller

Briere earned it with two picture perfect assists. It was the best team defensive effort I've seen in a while. Miller gets it for the save off the tip where it hit the post after he just got a piece of it.

  13. by the way, anyone catch some of tucker's play last night late in the 3rd? he gave alfredsson a stab in the back of his leg with his stick and alfredson went back after him. tucker immediately began throwing punches with his gloves on.....guy is such a hack.

I caught part of the Ottawa game and saw him go after Alfredsson. It was totally unnecessary. Alfreddson was just trying to stand up for himself and Tucker just started punching him in the head. I just hope we come out of this game without any injuries as I'm sure there's going to be some bad blood.

  14. On a sidenote, Darcy Tucker got 1st star in Toronto's game tonight.

C'mon, no raining on the parade here. The boys put on a great effort tonight and played like we know they can, erasing a two goal deficit and scoring in the final minute to tie it. It wasn't a perfect game as Ottawa capitalized on some mistakes, but I felt we were MUCH stronger defensively and we really took it to them on offense. I know they were missing D-men but who cares... Let's start building some momentum towards the playoffs!!!
