  1. Has anyone else noticed, that when the puck is in the corners, with Staff waiting at the half wall, and the puck squeaks out towards him, he waits for it. Like waits a long time for the dribbling puck to make it's way to him. He won't take a single stride toward the puck. Inevitably this allows an opposing player enough time to get to him and prevent a clear.

Why does he do this? Is there a hockey reason not to move to the puck?

This is a part of Ruff's "system". I can remember yelling at Grier and Dumont Kotalik and Pominville still does it. It might be partial laziness, but I think there is an imaginary line in the ice these players were taught not to chase a puck past.

  2. I would love to see Stafford go, not because I don't like him or his performance. I just hope he can thrive somewhere else. By no means am I tryting to be a Stafford sympathizer, but when was the last time he actually played with a real center? And don't tell me Hecht, Leino, or even Ennis are bonified centers. Ennis is a very nice player, but he is just not a distrubuter. The best plays he makes are one's for himself. It seems when Stafford is on the ice he is constantly bringing the puck up the ice for opportunities. He should be getting a pass or chasing a dump in. I would love to see this guy get a chance in a place that has centers like Detroit, Chicago, Vancouver, or even Colorado. If Darcy plays his cards right, the Sabres may even be able to pick up a 5th rounder.

  3. I think both teams can be winners with this trade. We desperately needed a young center with #1 potential. They needed a power forward with skills and toughness. If things continue on the trajectory of the first couple of games, I'd be happy with the trade.

TRue and don't forget the Sabres got Sulzer as a bonus. ( I view Gragnani as a through away from an organization who already had many of the similar players.)

  4. But then Why did we get Hodgson if he is going to be on the third line. It is going to be interesting to see what happens tommorow night with the lineups.

Hodgson is not an upgrade or replacement for Gaustad. There will be a hole left in the checking line that I don't want to see this guy fill. That kind of player (even Gaustad in particular) can be picked up this off-season. Matt Ellis is not exactly a shut down guy. With Roy Ennis and Hodgson, LIndy is going to create a line to go skill to skill with the other teams top line.

  5. First, that lineup was what I expect to happen, not what i want to happen. However, SDS brought up a good point and I think there's a decent chance he gets a shot with Vanek. I'd like to see Ennis get a chance with Vanek and Pominville, but I won't complain if it's Hodgson...basically, I want Roy off that line. For the first time in my life I'm actually excited about a western road trip, just to see how this works out.

We all know Lindy is not going to take Roy off that line barring an injury. I agree with you on Ennis though. I would like to see how he plays with Vanek. I just don't see it happening.

  6. Personally, I'd put him in the top 6. I don't actually expect that to happen though. My guess as to what will happen:

    Vanek-Roy-Pominville (ugh)

    Leino-Ennis-Stafford

    Gerbe-Hodgson-Kaleta

    Tropp-Ellis-Boyes

On second thought, I would've be shocked to see Hodgson and Ennis flipped. With Hodgson's shot maybe he could be Leino's Briere here. Personally I'd like to see Ennis on top, Hodgson #2, Roy on the 3rd line, but I don't expect it.

Why not play with Vanek? What other center in Buffalo now has had any chemistry with him?

Call it First line Second line, whatever.

Pominville and Roy have been playing well together lately. Through a wing with them and one with Hodgson and Vanek and see how it works.

  7. The legend of Kassian is far greater than anything he did on the ice. Can you really say you noticed this guy out there? I know hes a prospect but he's not the bruising power forward we want him to be. He needs more time in the American league.

Hodgson appears the be a more NHL ready forward and can score. Oh yea he plays center. This team needs more scoring, which is more difficult to acquire than tough guys.

I've said it before Kassian is a big body that does not play rough and has a propensity and reputation for being stupid. Buffalo wanted this guy to be someone he is not. I'm not saying he is a bad player, just that Buffalo was trying to fit square peg into a round hole.

  8. I must be the only person who goes out of my way to avoid seeing previews for the following week. When the preview starts I'm literally lunging for the remote to turn it off...I don't want them to give any surprises away, I think it makes the show more enjoyable if I have NO idea of what's going to happen.

    Love this show.

I'm with you on that one. It absolutely drives me crazy when some shows (Not this one) shows the previews right before the opening scene.

  9. Drew Stafford? Balls?

I think you answered your own question.

We could really make this into a fun game, Try and Guess what Lindy said, ending with Stafford Saying "I Know, I Know"

We're both going to be here forever. "I know, I Know."

  10. Dale (old guy w a conscience) and badass Shane have been butting heads for awhile. Anyone else think that when Dale mentions that he's seen guys like Shane before, and that sooner or later someone else becomes their victim, that the show is foreshadowing Dale's death at Shane's hand? I'm betting that happens this season.

I hope so right now Dale is one of those characters that bring the series down. He's like the wife of the main character that is nothing but annoying, like Skylar on Breaking Bad, or Jack's wife during the first season of 24.

  11. Looks like maybe they'll put the action back in this stint that was lacking last fall. When the new guys came in toward the end, I was thinking "crap" more character development and less action, but the ending solved that. It's like playoff time again.

  12. Ever wonder why is Hemsky's name out there every year. It's because he consistantly underachieves for a 4.1million a year player.

Edmonton can't seem to get rid of him.

Once his contract expires at the end of the year, do you know who will be the next "Hemsky"? Drew Stafford.

I do't want Hemsky, but if that gets rid of the Stafford contract sign me up. What pick do the Sabres givae away for this gift?

  13. In my book, the single, biggest homer I have ever heard. In any sport. And that is saying something because I have to listen to "Coatsie" here in Philadelphia.

I'll second that. I can't even watch Pens games on mute because of what he might be saying.

  14. If you dump Stafford for picks, who replaces him.

Boyes was playing better before his leg injury, I no doctor but its going to take a guy with that injury a long time to be back in game shape.

I know eveyone loves Kassian at this point, He has played great, but I have seen a player out there lost in thought more times than not lately.

I think We know what is in the farm system at this point.

I dislike Stafford as much as anyone else, but I think the Sabres are forced to hang on to him until boyes is completely back or Kass is a provin player

Either way Stafford should be here unless it is a player for player trade until feb.

As for Roy, Who else do we have at center? Can we trade him for two? No Way he Goes for futures.

  15. Luke Adam is a mystery to me. The team seemed great when he was centering Vanek and Pominville. Seeing as how we totally suck now, why can't we put him back there and see how it works?

It's completely ridiculous that we have a 26 year old AHLer centering our two best players. (It also says something about how little faith Ruff has in Roy that he'll do anything to keep he and Vanek apart now.)

    Thank You

When chewie first started on that line Pomminstein was almost joking about it in an interview saying how they did not get to see him at all because he was hurt in the preseason, and now chewie is centering their line. I think they got to know Adam. When a core player goes into a slump Ruff moves them up the lines to get them going. When Adam had a couple less than average games he was sent down to the third with Ville Leino and has never returned though playing well.
