I do not want the Sabres to select anyone at 13.  I want that pick used in a trade.  I don't think the team needs some guy who will break out in 2026. But Adams is going to Adams.

I want both. The Sabres can do both. Though I see the frustration in your comment. I think the Sabres should do something as well…. A few transactions and we should be able to tangle with the big boys and be better than the 8th seed. I can’t wait to watch our five rookies from last season take another big step. The fact is though that the Sabres might only need that #4 RHD to improve dramatically….

Probably Amerks 4th D-man last year (behind Pilut, Prow, and Cecconi).  Probably Amerks 4th D-man this year (behind Prow, Johnson, & Cecconi).  Maybe lower if Clague, Bryson, &/or Stillman find themselves outside the top 8 (top 7 if they decide to run the 3 headed goalie monster; or force a spot open for Rousek/Savoie).

    What about Novikov and RYJO?

I think it is between Jost and Rousek right now for the final forward spot.

I think Kulich starts in Rochester again where he belongs.

    Casey -  Krebs - Greenway

    girgs -  Jost - Ox

    (Rousek)?

But  We need help @ F/Os….. Third line needs a sniper…. Fourth line could use more scoring output….

Just like last year? Help coming from Quinn, Cozens, JJP, Krebs, Casey getting better?

  4. And if they are really willing to spend money on a 1st rate #4 RHD, maybe that means they are ready to go for it and possibly add a couple more vets? Like a goalkeeper or 3rd line center or a 4th line rugged forechecker?

Maybe KA thinks it’s time?  I do… or, at least, I think the fans of Buffalo deserve to go to the playoffs and that we really have a good team that with a few changes could go deep next season with any luck….

  5. Git ‘er done, KA….

Write up about his performance this season.

Very positive for the most part.

Defense first guy who can contribute but lets his partner join the rush. Second most minutes on the Canes D. Gets all of the tough matchups. Among their leaders in hits and blocked shots.

Sounds like a top 4 RHD that the Sabres could use.

Is he available? And why would that be?

The best option would be to swap with Columbus so they have AHL Cleveland and Cincinnati, and Buffalo gets the Kalamazoo Wings. They could have an alternate jersey with chicken wings. Even better would be a new team in Binghamton who currently has an FPHL team.

Binghamton would be a nice spot for a Sabre farm team. But I doubt many Sabre prospects would play there…. Too few really….

I don’t know why the Sabres are changing though, maybe they plan on sending more there? Make sure it is a competitive team as well? After the draft, we probably have more prospects then…. IDK? How many Sabre prospects played for Cincy? My guess is four. And none of them were actually Sabre prospects. More like Amerk prospects….

  7. I’d be super excited if KA got us that big #4 RHD, a vet goalie and a face-off winning scrappy center that can put the puck in the net.

A center built for playoff hockey. Can you imagine? How much better our defense will be compared the defense that played at the beginning of last season or even the end of it?  Being strong in goal? I mean, really strong.  I am certain our #2 line is going to make a substantial jump next season with Quinn - Cozens - JJP all a year older and bigger. Then give Casey a real good center to partner with. Maybe put Jost, Krebs or Rousek at #3 RW…. Who knows, maybe Kulich? With two vets, Kulich might be able to pull it off…  Finish it ll off with a Miles Wood addition.

    I mean, why not?

  8. We’ll get a look at the 2023 draftees and maybe read about a new Buffalo Sabre or three acquired by trade or free agency….

It ought to be a loaded prospect roster….

Exciting time to be a Sabre fan….

    Oh, and it’s 4th of July weekend….

Recalling great times on the beaches of Buffalo….

    : )

Once the talent in the pipeline is developed there may be a need to move Mitts due to cap issues, pressure from prospects or simply  having trade value for something the Sabres need.

His versatility (W or C, L1-3) is needed here. He also hasn’t hit his ceiling. Injuries have set him back a year in his development so he is just getting to the point where we can see what kind of player he is.

If JJP, Quinn, Krebs, Kulich, Savoie, Rosen, Östlund all come close to their ceilings there will be moves to be made.

I feel like Quinn and JJP are just about sure things and that that line of Quinn - Cozens - JJP is going to make a big jump next season. Maybe not at first, but eventually they’ll all be putting up points together.

  10. The Sabres have to draft BPA and keep doing well in the draft going….

Weigh where they are and possible move around the draft to get them. I want a big forward in the first round.

Hopefully there is at least one D-man worth a spot in the second round. Hopefully we end up with at least three by the time the draft is over…. I hope we find a goalie worth a pick as well….

We still don’t what we have in a lot of our prospects. You get better by drafting BPA…..You get better by competition. Let’s make Rochester bust at the seams with talent. This will allow us to have plug and play players coming up in a couple -three years….Win a Calder Cup then a Stanley Cup….

plus I don’t want rookies playing on the Sabres this year unless they are truly ready. Let them fully develop (as much as they can at least) in Rochester. We give the Sabres two to three of the right vets this year and we can go deep into the playoffs…. Everyone knows we need a big, tough #4 stay at home RHD. Maybe it’s best that we add a vet goalie to lead the team. Maybe we need a veteran forward to build a superior NHL third line. Give Casey a guy that he can really connect with….

If we did we these two or three things correctly this year we should not only go to the playoffs, but win in the playoffs.

It would be fun to see him play.

This off season will be one of the most interesting with Savoie and Kulich fighting to make the roster.  I do not recall the Sabres ever having a stream of good prospects like this.   This group is even bigger and maybe more impactful than the Ryan Miller Amerks group.

It’s way bigger if you count the five rookies from last year and by all means you should….

it’s just a crazy long list of talent going all the way to pick 13 this year…. Were definitely getting another good forward to add to the group. Then we are going to get a bunch of defensemen to shore our defensemen prospects group.

I remember there was something for Ted Nolan's Jack Adams Award based on how much Hasek bailed out the Sabres porous defence and virtually talentless roster.  (I keep coming back to the column in The Hockey News, where the writers referred to the Sabres as "hilariously inept.")  It had been revised by the time 2005-6 rolled around with Lindy Ruff.  (One pundit said Ruff's performance "gave new meaning to 'getting blood from a stone.'")

Basically, they try to use the estimated quality of players and the performance of the team at various aspects of the game against league averages and historical trends.  I imagine with the advances in computing power, GPU programming, and statistical analysis that management do an analysis of all the numbers against different criteria for their evaluation.  Or, that's what I did with limited data in 1992, anyway.

That Sabres team were the equal of that Dallas team. In fact, I think Belfour outplayed Hasek in the final.

Although they will say it, I don't want to hear about how proud they are of this year, how bright the future is, how the plan is working. I don't want to hear about 3-5 years, or the word development, or anything about steps and progress.

I want to hear one simple sentence, Our goal next season is to make the playoffs.

Anything less should be considered failure. That's the spot to set the bar and they need to make the moves needed to make that happen.

It's time for this team to make losing unacceptable.

Our goal next season is to win the cup as it should every season.

That’s what I want to hear. Get us the right #4 D-man while keeping our top six from this year so that Stillman is #7.

I’ll let KA call the goalie situation as I’m not sure what the best path is.

Definitely get a really rough & tumble fourth liner that can play.

Possibly get a third line center that is excellent at face offs, is a vet leader and has won a cup…. This player will also give us excellent depth. But I could see the Sabres go with last year’s squad at center and use the Rochester boys for depth….

The draft: BPA purely in first two rounds (ignoring tiny players)  then draft size and toughness….(if it’s there….) Let’s get some bangers in the system.

    Go Sabres!

I appreciate that we can wave 28 goals away so dismissively.

    But can we?

I would only trade Ollie for something good….

Say Ollie and Comrie and a low pick for a true, big and strong and fierce stay-at-home D-man with character….

I think both Ollie and Comrie have value…. Comrie is still young and not bad and goal scoring is extremely hard to come by. Extremely hard. Ollie is also a character guy.
Thinking it through, If we were to trade him it probably is for his sake more than ours and the return won’t be that big similar to Asplund but not that low of course….

Summers coming, we have work to do…. We probably don’t get that #1 goalie….I hope we do though… And that we get really good.

We probably don’t get a #3 center either…. But that #4 D-man, a perfect fit guy, is a must. So is making Stillman the #7 D-man. He will stay play over 40 games as the 7th so that’s not too big of a demotion.
