  1. Geez - didn't mean to kill the thread :)

Brewed for the first time in a long, long time. Made 10 gallons of "The Blank Czech Pils" for the start of hockey season. Now to fill the rest of my fermenters and kegs...

If anyone gets down to Jamestown area check out Brazil. Excellent selection on tap and decent bottles list.

  2. If you want to go to that festival, call Resurgence Brewing; last I knew most other places were sold out. I'm going, though :).

How is the beer @ Resurgence? I've been traveling to Buffalo quite often lately and was thinking about stopping in there.

I did have some Flying Bison Kolsch last time I was up there (Taste of Buffalo weekend) and it was okay. Is their IPA decent?

  3. Well, he singlehandedly pissed away game 4, that much is for sure.

And did I read this right? 9 playoff games straight now where Crosby hasn't scored?

The goal to send it to OT should not have happened. I find myself routing for CBJ in this series but I'm not sure if it's because I like the grit they are playing with or if I just have that much dislike for Crosby.

  4. I buy cars in 3 colors. Black, silver and white. Black is the most trouble by far! Mine is a dark slate silver now, it always looks clean.

Agreed. I only buy black and this is the first one I have had trouble with. It had some chips in it when I bought it (CPO) so the repaint with a better paint and thicker clear coat will prob help. Other than that it's a great car. I drove the new Q50 sedan and didn't like it as much.

  5. Really? Havent noticed any. What color is yours?

Black. Seems like it scratches if a leaf lands on it. The dealer washed it recently and used an auto car wash with brushes and scratched and swirled it all over. I complained about it and they took it back in and hand detailed it. When I got it back there were a bunch of gouges out of the paint on the door. Looked like the valet hit something in the road and it flew up and gouged the side. Thinking about getting it repainted and have an extra coat of clearcoat added.

  6. Ive got the infinity g35x. Big and roomy, rear camera, nav, leather, heated, Bluetooth and all that jazz. Too bad she only gets 20 mpg, but thats ok cause i stole it. This car really turned me on to nissan. Sweet ride.

Got the 2010 g37x coupe. Love it. Only complaint so far is the paint is brittle on it. My old '02 Jetta has less chips and scratches than the g37.

  7. So...First batch down. Four and a half hours later and I'm just hoping for the best. My wife says the smell is going to make her barf.

Sounds about right. My wife had the same initial reaction to the smell but now after years of me brewing she actually likes the smell of grains and freshly added hops during the brewing process.

    edit-

just kegged 5 gallons of my pale ale and I'm not impressed with it. I used 1098 yeast this time so maybe that's the difference. At least I have another 5 gallons with a different yeast to keg later.

  8. Stopped at Southern Tier over the weekend. They had a few new beers on tap. One was a belgian farmhouse ale called 'Steve'. It was ok. They had another belgian called 'Grand Arbor' that was all bubblegum. The Eurotrash pils was decent as usual - maybe a bit over-hopped. They have also expanded their food menu too. We didn't eat there but it all looked pretty good.

Oddly enough, while there we ran into the guys that are opening the Phoenix Brewery in Mansfield. Small world.

  9. No spray bottle, but starsan did come in the pack. When I move the stuff into the second bucket and have to make some more up I'll steal that idea though.

As for the yeast, I think "Wyeast 1272 American Ale Yeast II" is what I have (found that on the website and it sounded familiar).

Did the yeast pack swell before you pitched it?

  10. You can make brewing as complicated or as simple as you want to. That's part of the fun of it. Extract brewing is on the easier side of things and you can make some pretty good beer that way. All grain needs more equipment and generally takes a bit longer on brew day. I brewed extract for 3 batches with a kit I bought online and then switched to all grain with a couple of picnic coolers and an old keg with the top cut off for a long time. There's something really satisfying about sitting down with an excellent brew that I made and watching the Sabres play.

Glad to see there are a few of us homebrewers on here. I remember talking to Weave about brewing awhile back.

  11. Very nice. I've brewed 10 gallons of APA over the last week as well in two separate 5 gallon batches. Both were 'single hop' recipes, the first focused on Citra and the second on Mosaic hops. My next brew sometime next month will also.be an Irish stout for the annual St Patty's day bash that we host.

I made my 4-hop Pale Ale - uses citra, cluster and casade and dry hop with Amarillo. Split into 2 carboys - 1 has Thames Valley and the other has 1098. Still getting the hang of the eHerms but this last brew went pretty well considering I haven't brewed in a long time. I'd be curious to see your stout recipe of you don't mind sharing it.

  12.

    I don't post much but here's a couple musings...

We live near Lancaster, OH and have had the Rockmill belgians...I'm not a big fan of belgians but Rockmill's claim to fame is how similar the local water attributes are to the water in Belgium...I totally support local business and wish them absolutely the best! As a consumer and proud American, I am happy to see the explosion of craft brewers and understand that the total number of current craft brewers in the US is now equal to the number of brewers pre-prohibition! That speaks for itself!

My preference is IPA/APA and am fortunate to enjoy the following as my faves:

Founders Brewing Grand Rapids, MI Centennial, Double Trouble

Ithaca Brewing Ithaca, NY Flower Power

    Columbus Brewing Columbus, OH Bodhi

Ballast Point San Diego, CA Sculpin

Jackie O's Athens, OH Mystic Mama

    no matter what...GO SABRES!!

Belgians are not my favorite either but I do think Rockmill is pretty true to the styles they brew. Not over-the-top with any of the brews. Just solid, clean representations of the styles. It's also a cool place to visit.

Lancaster is not that far from Columbus for those that come down for games against CBJ.

  13. Enjoying a Rockmill Belgian Wit. May break open the Cask Aged Triple if needed. Rockmill is a small brewery in Lancaster, OH. Only distribute in Ohio for now but have plans to expand. Good stuff.

Stopped into Pearl St when I was in town for the Phoenix game. Had time for 1 pint and it was a decent IPA.

Might fire up the eherms system tomorrow too if I can find some yeast. It's been awhile since I've brewed anything. Kegs are all empty.

  14. Annual pubcrawl with the brewclub on Saturday. Heading to Lagerheads, Thirsty Dog and ending at Main Street (Garretsville). All decent breweries. Should be a good time. The bus is full this year too.

Someone mentioned Delerium Tremens upthread. I like it but prefer Delerium Nocturnum.

There is another small Belgian brewhouse in southeast Ohio (Rock Mill). I'll be stopping in there in one of the next few weekends. Haven't had anything from them yet.

  15. We get both in western NY. But thanks for the offer.

well....... if you get Founders beers in Mansfield.... I'm not sure what I get here that you can't in your location.

Speaking of Mansfield, spent a night there a couple years ago. Cool little race track you folks have there.

I can get some Founders stuff. Which ones are you looking for?

As for Hoppin' Frog - I can get whatever. One of the brewers is the pres of our brewclub and he brings all kinds of stuff. Goose Juice is one of his beers. They take BORIS and their IPA and and mix half and half in a container filed with coffee beans. The container is a tall, clear pvc tube with a spigot at the bottom. One glass of that is enough but man is it good.

I think there are some newer small craft breweries up that way that might not distribute to OH. Maybe not.

Which track? The paved oval or mid-ohio road course? They haven't run any races at the oval in a couple of years.

  16. Anyone had Southern Tiers' new flagship beer called Live yet?

Bottle conditioned American pale ale. The Blue Monk got the first keg last weekend. I wasn't able to get there to try it but friends who did said it is an absolutely fantastic beer. TONS of hop character. Bottles are out now but I haven't seen it on draft yet. My sources tell me draft in my neck of the woods will be available next week.

Had it at the brewery not too long ago. Pretty good.

Just picked up some Victory Prima Pils, Great Lakes Alchemy Hour Double IPA and Mean Manalishi Double IPA from Hoppin' Frog.

edit - just poured the Alchemy Hour - wow. Very nice beer! 9.4%,

From the bottle: 'a flash of Mosaic hops and a kiss of honey malt..'

  17. Hows everyone liking the second half thus far? I enjoyed the reprieve from the Governor story-line last week, it was starting to wear on me a bit.

I was wondering when Morgan was going to show up again. He's still 'Hawkins' from Jericho to me though.
