No.  The entire thing is about the Sabres team doctors recommending a low risk path involving rehab and rest.  After that, they will  re-evaluate.  That time is coming in June.  That is what Adams said and it is consistent with common practice for this injury.

The controversy comes from Eichel calling it a disconnect.   The Sabres holding the contract over his head has NEVER happened because it’s way too soon in the process to have it happen.   The drama comes from Eichel and his press conference,  and then fans on the Internet reacting to it.

    This exactly.

It is the press and fans saying more. The Sabres followed their best medical advice. We will now see where he is after the medical advice. Are things improving? Worse? Then the medical experts, not th3 fans, will determine the next expert advice.

People have to stop making things up.

My point is if they were so enamored with Allen, they were risking that he would be taken in the first few picks.  That is where they were “lucky”....that he lasted until the 7th pick.

There is luck in every draft but you have to have a plan. You have to have a clue what you are doing and make that plan work even with draft surprises. No one can argue what they’ve accomplished.
The Sabres on the other hand…..

  3. I agree with 99% of what the OP said.

I, too, have been a fan since 1970. My father took me to games to see the French Connection, etc., and it was a team you could have pride following. There was a connection with the city and fans. That is all lost and seems nothing like what we experienced back then.

I truly believe is has to do with management and leadership. The Bills are successful because they found Beane and McDermott. From there they built a team we can believe in. They brought in players with the right character. Doesn’t everyone feel Josh is a “Buffalo guy”? His work ethic and personality (don’t tell me when he jumped over a linebacker you didn’t jump out of your seat) fit the team and city perfectly.

The Pegulas need to find the hockey equivalent of Beane and McDermott. That’s on them 100%. If they do, the posts here will change quickly. Until them, they deserve the criticism they are receiving by fans.

You called Kim Pegula a "trophy wife" but you don't buy into personal assessments. You just make them.

I’m not agreeing with the comment but if you would let it drop it would fade away. You are keeping it alive.

It’s not the Bills leadership(Beane and McD) as much as it was lucking into Josh Allen.  Think about where that team would be today if they had ended up with Rosen instead of Allen?

That being said, there is no easy turnaround for the Sabres.  Best players want out, greener than green GM who was hired because the owners are “comfortable” with him, still have a gutted off-ice hockey staff, no HC, goaltending is a mess, etc...

Who picked Allen in the draft? It’s about leadership.

This is the latest chapter in the sorry saga of the Buffalo Sabres--the worst franchise in the NHL.

As I keep saying, it is going to be difficult to win much of anything with current ownership.

I hope for continued success with the Bills and Pegula slowly giving in to the knowledge that owning 2 major league sports teams is just too much for one person or couple.

This all sounds like Jack wants out of here, and he figures he can use the neck injury as the vehicle for getting out of Dodge.

I'd be stunned if this ends well for your average Sabres hockey fan.

I think you are absolutely right and the Pegulas have decided the Bills are the major sports franchise in Buffalo and the Sabres are a farm club.

I'd fire KA. I don't care when he was hired...he's a weasel. So is Eichel, for making up this song and dance about the disagreement about the operation...it was really just his awkward, passive-aggressive way of orchestrating himself out of town. Blame the organization and make them look like the bad guys.

Management should've sat down with Eichel quietly and asked if he wanted to stay or go. If he said he wanted to go, they should have given him a dignified exit and traded him. But they blew it up into this ugly thing because basically management are weasels. Now Buffalo is up for league-wide ridicule again.

But Kim will hire another dud and the s***show will continue because she's incompetent, calculating, self-absorbed, conniving, manipulative, unethical, negative and a bad manager. The organization reflects the top manager. The problem here isn't Eichel, it's the Pegulas. And specifically Kim Pegula. Jack just didn't want to play in Buffalo anymore and she wouldn't accomodate him. If he doesn't want to play, he's not going to play, let him go with dignity.

Terry please find something else for your trophy wife/handler to do.

How are they doing with the Bills?

Look, calling people names you don't even know means nothing. I know you're angry, we all are. I think there's enough blame to throw around on both sides.

I never felt Eichel was captain material and maybe they shouldn't have given him that role, but, who else? There's no quick fix. Prepare for continued mediocrity for at least several more years.

There’s probably much more to this story than what Dr. Eichel lets on. For example, what if the team doctor says that surgery may potentially worsen his condition and favor conservative management. What if second opinion says the same thing? And what if a third opinion says do surgery and Eichel thinks that’s going to solve all his problems (and maybe get him off the team)? You go to enough surgeons and eventually you’ll find someone who will take you to the OR.

    Fact.
We’re only getting one side and may never know the clinical details. Surgery is not always the answer and can even make matters worse.

I think you think we here haven't considered that. The issue is you gotta be 100% sure you're getting better or it's ror all over and another 3-5 years of losing.

We can’t let ROR scare us forever. It was an epically bad move but that doesn’t mean you crawl in a hole and hide.

I agree it has to be done right AND it’s not easy. It’s easy to talk about but not easy to do. We’re just playing GM.

    How about this...

Why should we get rid of Jack Eichel?

We haven’t succeeded with him. We may be able to get quite a bit for him and, perhaps, it will reap better results.

We’ve all seen team with talent, perhaps no superstar, that succeeds because the players all fit the system. We all wanted him to be the savior. It hasn’t worked out. Could it? How long will it take? It’s merely a different perspective.

We haven't cured the obesity crisis in the USA while I've been alive. Just saying. I'm not saying I'm the cause of the nation wide problem, but, all I know is that it hasn't been solved while I've been on this planet. Couldn't hurt to ship me to the moon just to see

it's just a bad argument, sorry.

    Welcome to the board

    Thanks.

Trust me, I’ll eat crow if the Sabres suddenly make it to the Cup next year with Jack. Would love nothing more. I won’t be holding my breath though.

He’s pointing out the fallacy of your arguments, but you’re not picking up on it.

No, he was nearly giving emotional responses and not answering my question.

Thats ok. I understand fandom. It often blinds people. We begin accepting mediocrity. That’s when we should think about alternative options. Or not.
