  1. Good things..

Buffalo not a prejudiced as Winnipeg .. Race probably has something to do with his falling out in peg. Atlanta was a proper fit to give Kane some slack where I imagine he got none up north.

We get two players that will play big minutes next year. Both have a higher possible return than the rest but ..

The team moved from Atlanta and each had good years but are both down and injured the past two years .

    Bogosian article.. On usage.

    http://www.arcticicehockey.com/2014/5/20/5692634/pilots-logbook-2013-14-winnipeg-jets-zach-bogosian-defense

And we still suck with hope waiting in the wings .

I wish I could play poker with Murray , I wouldn't need to work ... but he gets the more immediate return and if he signs another veteran and if we finish 30th we do get to watch hockey next year for sure. Your season tix stock went up. Both are more of a guarantee than our good maybes.

    And..

Winepeg and Buffalo at least don't have to look at their mistakes as they only play each a few times and no news comes out of Midwest canada black hole.

If I wanted to bury a body Winepeg would be high on my list.

Murray has put a clock on his time in buffalo if kane doesn't work ..and it's at least two years before both armia and Lemieux produce..

Me effort to justify paying too much as opposed to not playing at all.

Kane will not work In Buffalo  .  This city is not big enough for him anymore.  Like most kids today he is a bit of a narcissist.  He does not have the patience to wait 5-7 more years to become a cup threat. Its a world of instant gratification or nothing for them. Not a good  tradeIMO. (and I have never been a Myers fan)

  2. Wouldn't surprise me if the Habs take a step back this year, but they will make the playoffs and should be competitive for the next few years.

The have the goalie and the defenceman to build around and are crossing their fingers that Galchenyuk will be the forward.

They could afford to dump Gorges and Gionta because they have guys coming up behind them.

I think they over achieved last year. They are still a team without a true one center and only one real power forward . They are missing a number of pieces imo . I also worry about Price being injury prone. I agree they make the playoffs again if Price stays healthy. I do not see them getting by Tampa this year.

  3. Yes. More talent in his pinky that most of the team, but he so rarely put it to use. He would have been a helluva player if he could have been a perennial second-liner. He's got the potential to be a first liner, but he never fulfilled that potential. If anything, when assigned first-line duty, he got worse.

Ok, I am bored and will bite.

Eighth in scoring in the NHL, or somehing like that , over the past eight seasons . The guy puts up 277 total goals , playing without a legit top tier one center for the past six , on a team without a pp and going nowhere, ...............and you are disappointed ? lol.

I kind of like what he looked like on a good line with his near a pt a game, although Kyle was not a perfect match on the RW. That could have been his game here had Darcy had a brain.

My biggest disappointment. Jim Lorentz for costing us the cup in 75.

  4. His work ethic scoring those goals was mediocre as well. He stood in front and used his excellent hand eye coordination to get great deflections. Not trying to take away from what he did but he didn't work hard outside of getting in position in front. Those comments came the day before though and I think they are spot on. Vanek is not and will not be a solid 200ft player so I guess I will stop expecting him to be.

To be fair he is playing off wing, with a lw that could not put a accurate pass on my grandmothers stick if she was standing still at center ice. The center is half the size of a walnut, can only see the LW side of the ice, and probably would not be playing on the first or second lines of any other playoff team.. Now that I said that they will go on a scoring tear and I hope they do because I hate Boston. A pathectic line,NHL playoffs level skill wise, other than Patches speed and shooting ability. TV is averaging two shots per game?.Beyond Price, Subban and TV what do you see???? .

  5. Miller happy... and winning

    Vanek happy .... and winning

    Moulson happy ... and winning

    Sabres fans ....

you could add 6-7 more. lol

I never thought of Shanny as a floater. Especially near the end of his career. I cant believe you had to wait till Vanek was a Sabre to make that observation on him though. It doesn't matter in the end though as he can score goals and is going to get PAID again to do it.

I think it would be fair to say he is a lot more than a goal scorer .

  6. There isn't a single person that doesn't get this concept. The only problem is that ther is no guarantee of the #1 pick. There is also no guarantee that this is the way to build a team. There is also no guarantee that I will not get hit by a bus and die 14 months into this rebuild and never see it to fruition. The only guarantee I have is having to watch painfully bad hockey for seemingly the rest of my life.

Buffalo Sabres- forever in the land of Next Year (only now it's become the land of Two Years From Now :wallbash: )

:clapping: .. (on with the ten year rebuild)

  7.

Even the best individual players are only worth a few wins per year, so I think it's important not to confuse overall place in the standings with the value of each player. Vanek, Pominville, Roy...all players you "couldn't win with"....yet, the team has gotten unarguably worse since getting rid of them. Those players made the Sabres better, and if being better wasn't enough for more than a battle for 8th place, the problem wasn't them it was the players surrounding them.

No room for rational thoughts here, Doc.

  8. Well, i agree that it's been clear that Vanek has been determined to go to FA from the get-go, but I also think a soft rental market is a soft rental market. The frenzy didn't really hit this year. I also think that his rental value was impacted by his olympic performance, although probably unfairly so since he's been a pretty solid producer in the playoffs (admittedly with a modest sample size).

I will also note that Friedman and Hughson were also referring to Vanek's value on the UFA market -- I think they both said words to the effect thathe cost himself millions of dollars in Sochi. FWIW, I'm not sure I agree - someone will probably still give him a ton of money.

You are correct , someone will give him the money because on a good team (not to be confused with ours or the Isles) with a playmaking center, he will continue to use half of his skill and energy to play through injuries and put up 20-40 goals and 60-80, pts for the next five or so years. He is still a scoring chance machine and still makes whomever he plays with better .

OR he may take less to return to MINN because in the final analysis he probably knows hockey is just another professional sport meat market and that the quality of his family's life is far more important than a puck and the psycho mood swings of the average fickle fan. lol

Freidman and Hughson are just two of many talking heads in the pro sport buisness. They must have thought Austria was a powerhouse hockey force with a chance to medal.(I did like their hybrid goaltender who played the third against Canada and the next two games ) Their opinions in the market carry the same weight as Potato's.

Today, Boston, Philly, LA, and Pitt are kicking themselves knowing Montreal got him for a 2nd and a/b prospect. It gets really interesting if Montreal faces Boston in the playoffs or for that matter any of those teams who looked early and passed.

  9. Not sure what the griping is about in here. TM got what he could get for Moulson. Clearly it was a buyers' market this year for rental forwards.

    yep...

2 seconds and a bag of pucks.. was the market

Damn. I guess it is time to change the avatar.

The thing that sucks the most is, the players I looked forward to watching are all gone now. And there probably wont be replacements worth my attention until after 2015.

It's probably a good return but I'm rapidly losing my excitement.

    more like 2025

  10. I can think of more Sabres that fizzled elsewhere than succeeded.

Roy, Vanek, Tropp, Gerbe, Leopold, Pom, Lydman, Tallinder, Regehr, Paille, Zubrus, Cambell,

Seems like a few made out ok and played or continue to play well after they left. We have a talent for getting rid of guys that can play too.

  11. Just checked TV stats since joining NYI. He has 9GP, 3G, 4A, +5, 10PIM and 1 missed game.

3 goals 5A, +5 having missed five games and hit six posts (actual number)..As streaky as he is, hopefully the posts will change to goals soon as he gets used to a different system and line mates.
