  1. I have been fortunate to explore a LOT and have loved every second of it. Here is a snippet

*I have stayed in every state along the entire east coast from Maine to Key West and Michigan/Ohio

    *Vegas

*Cali:  San Fran, Monterrey, San Jose, Pebble Beach, Highway 1

    *Negril, Jamaica

    *Nassau, Bahamas

    *Cancun, Mexico

    *All of the Florida Keys

    *Panama City, FL

    *Washington and Oregon

    *Melbourne, Australia

    *Spain, Italy, and France

Up next:  Big Island, Hawaii and Peru

But, I feel my best trip was six glorious weeks in Europe during June through August of 2015.

One of my closest friends was getting married in Italy that summer and my best friend and I were both invited.  I convinced her (my BFF) to travel with me for six weeks surrounding that wedding and, man, was THAT a summer I will never forget!  Spain:  Barcelona; France:  Aix en Provence, Nice, and the French Riveria; Monaco:  Monte Carlo; Italy:  Florence, Venice, Amalfi Coast, and Rome.  My BFF was with me the whole time.  10ish days surrounding the wedding brought our group of eight close friends to Florence to live it up and then all of us went to Venice together.  I was able to fulfill my Mom's lifelong dream of seeing the Vatican and Sistine Chapel and she came over for the last 9 days of my journey.  Simply AMAZING.  There is just something about watching your Mom look like a little kid on Christmas in the middle of Vatican City that can never be duplicated or removed from your heart/brain; it is the reverse of what parenting is all about and I still get weepy when I look at pictures of her two years later.

Travel, my friends!  It is good for the soul :)

  2. Just got back from Spain a couple weeks ago. This was a game changer for me. I had never been to Europe so I was captivated by the history, the castles, the food, the Moorish architecture, the people, everything about that beautiful place. Stayed in Madrid for 5 nights then drove to the southern coast and stayed in Malaga for the rest of the trip and ventured out from there to places like Cordoba, Granada, Ronda, Cesares, Seville. Took a side trip into Gibralter which was cool. Rode the gondola to the top of the rock. Some highlights were touring Real Madrids Stadium, Touring The Alhambra of Granada, Touring the Mosque/Cathedral of Cordoba. Touring the Old towns of Cesares and Ronda. Seville was amazing. Put 3500 km on the rental. I'm going back. at some point I'll take another shot at Spain. Really beautiful.

Spain won my heart over the summer of 2015!  I just visited the parts that you mentioned this past summer (3 weeks:  end of July through mid August) and am already yearning to go back.  Malaga was such a beachy, fun town; I loved being there and being able to travel so many other fun cities while also taking the time to relax at Malagueta Beach or any other parts.  I recommend hitting up Barcelona on your next trip.  I spent 12 nights there in 2015 and still needed more time, so went back this summer and split my time between there and Malaga.  My goodness, do I LOVE that city!  And, while your're in BCN, make arrangement to spend at least one night in Montserrat.  Life changing, indeed!  Feel free to let me know if you need any suggestions; I travel on a small budget and I do it up WELL!

Ya know, I try and take one trip a month, whether it's local or global.... My job sucks and is stressful, it's long, hard hours. The perk for me is that financially I am in a good spot and my days are soooo long (usually 12+)hours that allows me to work a lot less (days) per month.

I'm 33, single, no kids that I'm aware of :) I'm cool with seeing/experiencing as much as I can, before the reality of aging hits me.

DO it while you can!  We share the same philosophy.  My wanderlust is my newest relationship....hasn't let me down yet :)

  3. It's the last week of classes and it's as if students have just checked their grades for the first time. I've gotten about 40 "what can I do about my grade" emails this week. Couple that with those saying it's unfair I took off X points for not following Y direction for the paper (never mind that the assignment literally says failure to comply will result in loss of 10 points) and I'm about ready to have "email technical issues" for awhile.

Oh, and I had an interview cancelled today because the school made an offer to one of the candidates that interviewed last week. Apparently I should have just cancelled class for two days so I could interview last week.

True, you're a college professor, right?

Your post validates all of the thoughts me and my high school colleagues have regarding what high school policies are doing for collegiate level life.

I offer you my sincerest apologies.  Things suck worse at my level and I know you knowing that is no consolation prize.

  4. I may have to go back to grad school for a different degree to get to where I want to be. I had thought my experience would get me there, but I'm becoming more pessimistic on that front. Bleh.

If you are looking to do anything outside of the classroom, you will need a different degree.  I graduated from SUNY Geneseo with an Elementary and Special Education Degree and a minor in Spanish.  I taught 3 years at the primary level and then 7 at the high school level.  I then decided that I wanted to be a counselor.  My experience didn't matter.  I got my Masters from Johns Hopkins and now am set to do anything I would like at any level (teaching/counseling level, that is) and, if I finally decide to do what I need to do to get my LCPC, I can also work at a private practice or establish my own.  Each program is different.  JHU required 48 credits, some institutions do not; most require less.  You will be exempt from extra internship hours because of your teaching experience, so at least there is that :)

Counseling or higher education student personnel. Which don't exactly seem interchangeable to me, but it is what it is.

Big picture, they are one in the same.  K-12 level, you are looking at being labeled as a counselor.  Anything beyond the high school level, you're looking at being labeled as academic advisor, which falls under that "higher education personnel."  Potato, poh-tat-toe....the higher the level the more "sophisticated" the label.  Additionally, as an advisor, you will not have to delve too much into the social-emotional piece; you are mostly there to help with class selection and academic decisions.  As a counselor, your role is deeply rooted in the social-emotional, behavioral, and academic pieces.

  5. I have no earthly clue what goes on in Dan Bylsma's head. Eichel, Samson, O'Reilly in the shootout. Every time. Maybe Risto if not Samson

From someone who is reportedly so cerebral and intelligent, he makes some incredibly dumb decisions.  Gionta? No comment.  Kane?  He, I suppose, deserved the nod because of his effort.....but, he misses the net completely 97% of the time; clearly he scores more after hours at the Marriott.  He is a lot of flash (I appreciate his game, but his outlandish shot selection choices are cringe-worthy).  ROR?  Normally a decent decision, but he has been quiet and seemingly in a funk lately.

Agreed on your SO selections.  I think McGinn and Girgs should break into that rotation from time to time, too.I'd like to see Pysyk give it a try, too....he is a smart player and would probably take a calculated shot that would actually be close to representing an actual scoring chance vs. what we saw tonight.

Deflating way to end a game that saw some great effort.

  6. This is nothing like the Lindros saga.   Lindros refused to play for Quebec who had the 1st overall pick.    Drouin never said he didn't want to play for the Lightning.    He's played 7 games in the AHL where he doesn't belong, I like that he's forcing the issue now.

It was just a correlation based off of not agreeing with what was happening and wanting something else.  I understand correlation does not lead to causation, so was making the simplest comparison I could think of.  He is pressing the issue, but I am not so sure it will necessarily result in what he wants.

  7. I like Pysyk too, but lets face it, we've set the bar awfully low these past few seasons for what we consider quality defensemen.    He has good agility, but like most of the defensemen on this roster, he's slow and won't win many puck races back into the zone.

IMO Ennis, Pysyk and (I'm guessing) a 3rd... isn't enough to land Drouin if I'm Stevie Y.

Fair enough.  Lindros did the same kind of thing Drouin is kind of doing and look what happened to his career.  If the same positive results would happen to Drouin when he became a Sabre, I certainly would not be mad.  Is the gamble worth it?  Depends on all of the parts that it'll take to take said gamble, of course.

  8. And take it fwiw, but a rumor I heard through someone who works at wgr is that the Sabres have offered Ennis, Pysyk and a draft pick to Tampa for Drouin.

I know it is a rumor, but......

I dislike the seemingly front-office dislike of Pysyk.  I feel more confident and secure about things when he is on the ice because he always makes the smart, defensive play.  He is not a liability, ever, and - as everyone always states on this board - we don't hear much about his name/game and that is typically a good thing when it comes to defensemen...but, I also respect that people want more "electricity" and offense from him.  I truly think trading away Pysyk would be a genuine loss for our team; he presents himself as an unassuming, unsung hero type of guy.  However, I would not be opposed to losing Ennis.  I feel he is on the decline and is becoming more and more injury prone because of his size.  I appreciate his Mighyt Mouse stature and efforts but he is, in my opinion, looking to more likely end up like the next Gionta...although I don't think he ever had "it" at one point like Gionta once did.

  9. Thanks Bio....I have a looooooooooooonnnngggg way to go, but I feel I am off to a good start. If only I had never started dating beer and vodka....

Physics, word! Poor timing by my immune system, but I have enjoyed my time now that I am healthier. Vacation suits me better than the gym...and bronchitis! ;)

  10. I watched the documentary "Fat Sick, and Nearly Dead" back in January. It inspired me to give juicing a try and to start working out again. I signed up for Planet Fitness and began working out in February. I usually go to the gym everyday to complete an hour and a half work out (16 minute cardio warm-up, lifting, and then a 16 minute cardio cool-down) and, if I cannot make the gym, I do something physically active in its place. Juicing has given me a lot of energy and I feel so much lighter, as the micronutrients have helped "cleanse" my body. I have also significantly cut back my drinking (it is helpful that it is the off-season as well, as watching the Sabres play usually makes me want to have copious drinks). I fell off the work-out wagon in mid May (I got a really bad cold coupled with bronchitis), but have maintained my weight since then (which is a huge accomplishment for me). I have dropped 60 pounds so far and look forward to dropping some more. I am resuming my gym routine once I get back from my current trip to the Keys.

Kudos to all of you for being physically active in some way, shape, or form. As we get older, making time for exercise gets harder and harder because responsibilities mount. Keep on keepin' on friends! :flirt:

  11. Sandy is on here in MD. Looks like she has passed the mouth of the Chesapeake before turning left. Still hours away from really feeling it and already have rain falling an inch per hour. Lights are still on and the sump pump is working. Wish I had a generator.

Been raining since 6 AM where I am in MD, getting heavier as time moves on....and the wind is picking up. My sump pump is literally going off every two minutes. The big stuff is only a few hours away....

To everyone on the east coast, be safe. I know Buffalo will not "feel" anything until tomorrow, but don't eff with Sandy, she's a real b*tch.

  12. My complaint: mucus.

Had a cold over Christmas week. No flu, I got the shot, just plugged up sinuses. Now the nose is geting better but it's all landed in my lungs.

I'm coughing like there's no tomorrow. Getting headaches from coughing so much.

    Someone tell it to stop!

When getting ready for bed, try rubbing Vaporub on your feet and the putting on white cotton socks. Sounds weird, but I guarantee you'll feel better the next morning. I do not know why it works, but it does :)

  13. Sorry if I offend anyone, but...

Roy - still dislike him and all of the ice time he gets. He is captain-give-away-at-an-important time. He cannot finish as he always falls. He tries to find something that is not there. Sure he has points...how many of those are important points???

Ennis - Roy/Connolly in training, for sure - let me try to dipsee-doodle and make something that isn't there. And, when I have a scoring chance, let me shoot RIGHT at the goalie. He does hustle, but his hustle is always negated by a dumb play.

Gerbe - first line winger....REALLY? Another captain giveaway with no finish. DUMB.

Pommers - EXTRA shooting practice - he shoots wide more than it snows in Buffalo. RIDICULOUS! Get some glasses, man.

Glad we won. Changes still need to be made...Sigh.

  14. You can't say something like that based on one call. Did you hear when they were basically laughing at how awful the slashing call to Stafford was? These guys aren't great, but they're definitely not biased.

On that note though, players do embellish the high sticks all the time. It's a tough to figure out though because of the natural reaction to whip your head back when anything comes that close to hitting you in the face.

Fair enough - biased wasn't the right word. They have made some good points for our team. I was just more taken aback at his comments, first on Connolly and then on Stafford. If he has the same reaction about a penalty against the Thrashers in the third period then I will call it even.

  15. This team is not even exciting to watch. And they have created an expectation of: guaranteed loss despite effort. They cannot put the puck in the net despite incredible pressure nor can they finish out an entire sixty minutes. Absurd. I want to spend $169 to watch them throughout the season, but they have given no reason to work a second job so that I can afford it. I am a real fan, but I also have to pay real bills. So far, I have not seen a real team...
