  1. He has a long way to go to mend his relationship with the Buffalo people, Sadly for him this will never blow over, he will always be labeled with the rape tag.

His bad rep and antics before this case also didn't help things.

But hopefully in time this will fade and people can come respect the player that he is again.

I love this exchange from the article:

Not anymore. The summer’s travails, the way the city divided on him, that howling crowd at First Niagara Center all served to lend Kane a bit of clarity. “It just seems like it’s kind of 50-50—and it always has been—whether people like me in Buffalo or they hate me,” he said to his dad last month.

“That’s what they said about Gretzky in his hometown,” Tiki said in response. The message: Greatness spawns resentment.

What?!?  Am I the last to know that 50% of Brantford, Ontario hates Wayne Gretzky?!?  I've never really heard of anybody hating him, much less in his own hometown.

Tiki - maybe being a dbag spawns resentment - not greatness.

You might be able to compare Kane and Gretzky on the ice, but off the ice, there is no comparison.

The same could be said of Tiki Kane and Walter Gretzky.

  2. It's confirmed to actually be happening. 1pm IIRC. I guess they feel obligated to present counter-points to the leaks and the Kane presser? On the one hand I can see why they'd want to do that, on the other hand I'm not sure how compounding leaks with more leaks will be beneficial to the overall process.

I really don't think if it's coming straight from the lawyer that it is considered a leak

  3. It's presented to Kane that it's 50-50 whether he will be convicted and is lawyer suggests a settlement that has strings attached that he admits no guilt and the woman doesn't press charges.  It's presented to her in a similar way - it's 50-50 whether she will get a conviction and to get one she will have to press charges and probably face his lawyers in court.  Or she can take a sure thing.

Again, nothing will take her back to before that night, but given the choice of a chance of a conviction versus a sure deal settlement... I could see where her lawyer would advise her to take a settlement, even if there are strings attached.

Also consider that if they don't get a conviction, it will greatly reduce her chance of winning a civil suit.

If she gets enough money she can pay a good therapist.

Is that true?  I really only know of the OJ case, where that wasn't true.

I think maybe Corasanti ended up settling halfway through his civil case, too.

  4. I am struggling to understand how Kane, and not the criminal justice system, is driving this bus. She wants the money? Fine? Charge Kane and haul both their ###### onto the witness stand.

Yeah that trip to Cozumel will be awesome. While you're stirring your beach drink, you can think about the next woman. Bottoms up.

I know there are all kinds of things at play that we don't know, but it does seem like this.  To me, it seems like she can get both criminal and civil (money) justice.  As we know from OJ, he wouldn't even have to be proven guilty in criminal court to still be held liable in civil court.

What if it's a DA who's fed up, knows the guy did it and maybe has a wife or daughter who's been a victim of rape? (And doesn't care about getting re-elected.)

Tell Kane to shove the money and start a gofundme. I honestly don't know how a rape victim can possibly spend that money and not be tortured by where it came from.

    So, the opposite of Sedita?

  5. Absolutely.  I think immediately labeling her a gold digger as some other posters have done is disgusting.

I believe you are referring to me, because you replied to my post earlier in the thread.  My said "She'll always look like a gold digger" - I did not say she IS a gold digger.

Kane apologists/Blackhawk fans have been saying this since day one.  Her accepting money in exchange for dropping everything will reinforce those beliefs.

If I were to have to give my opinion, I bet she isn't.  But, in the majority of people's eyes, she will look like one.

  6. If TBN really wanted to make it right they'd stop leaking pieces of information in one vacuum after another such that we have no idea what means what, but it could still sway plenty of people's opinions. Seriously, they need to just stop coverage until they can put out something significant (or, ya know, just wait for the police investigation).

If they really had accurate sources, I'd be OK with it.  But, the same people who told us that the accuser was not the girl that Croce was talking about - now are saying that it is.

  7. So they communicate with just photos, mostly of each other's junk. 17 and older of course.

That's what I've wondered the last few years.  I don't get how they're communicating.  Tumblr is or was super popular, and that seems to me it's just all pictures.  Same with instagram, and I think snapchat.  I keep hearing about snapstories but have no idea what they are.

How are they communicating - without words?!?

  8. Wish I could say the same. Have avoided Twitter, but I do have a Facebook account. Only reason I'm glad I have it is the communication I have w/ parents of kids I coach in cross country. Have a team page. Makes it easy to remind people of practice times, fundraisers, etc.... Aside from that, have almost no interests in Facebook. Man, feel old when I say that.

Actually, Facebook is where old people are.  I'm 53 and therefore old, and it's all middle aged women posting pics of their kids and now grandkids and having every other middle aged woman say how beautiful they are, even if the kids look like they just got off the set of Deliverance.

I wish my facebook feed had more things like twitter, which skews much younger.

  9. Plenty of officers do security-type jobs off hours.

By all accounts, whatever happened was after the cop left, so he didn't witness a crime.

As long as he tells the truth when questioned as to what led up to the possible crime, I don't see a problem.

I don't think there's anything to see here.  TBN reporting on nothing.  I guess it's better than the Croce article.

This is exactly how I feel.  I guess maybe all the twitter reactions of " just got real" etc. would happen no matter what was posted by TBN.  "Kane reported to be drinking Bud Light"  - Holy says HawksFan999

I figured the News would have some story for the Sunday paper.  But, this isn't exactly a bombshell.

  10. I keep hearing the word 'settlement' thrown around. Pardon my ignorance, but if the county finds enough evidence to charge Kane, a settlement isn't an option. If they don't find enough evidence, she surely isn't going to win a case on her own if she decides to press charges. Most of the time when I hear about settlements in sexual abuse/rape accusations, it's usually before the city/county get involved. But in this case the county is already involved, so where is a settlement going to come into play?

I would think that without her testifying, it would be a very hard case to prosecute.
