  1. This Petgrave guy is a scumbag and that's being nice.  There's a video circulating from a decade+ ago when he played for the Niagara Ice Dogs in the OHL.  With his back to the opponent, he used his leg/skate as a weapon to flip the guy as he was cutting towards the net.  I can only imagine how many times he did reckless stuff like that not caught on video.

  2. The shots were lopsided in part because the Sabres got the early 3rd period lead and then deemphasized offense coupled with Philly pushing harder.  I have a problem with Buffalo backing off too much in games when they have a slim lead.  They end up in our own zone for most of the period and the goalie has to make some great saves.  It's human nature to back off with a lead but Granato needs to get this right.

After seeing the recent tragedy I can’t for the life of me understand why he lifts his leg into the neck area of the player. It was akin to a karate kick towards the head area. Very strange indeed.

Yeah i agree. Didn’t seek it out but i ran across a loop of the incident on Twitter. It does appear that the guy did a kicking motion. Probably didn’t intend to slash his throat but i can’t imagine why he’d even want to kick him in the equipment. So the kicking coupled with the guys sketchy background it doesn’t seem far fetched at all that this was not an accident.

UPL wasn't the reason we lost but in a way he was. None of those goals were on him but it was clear watching live that everything went downhill when he came in. When teams have no confidence in their goalies it affects their play and here it clearly did. Playing most of the game with 5 defensemen also ended up a killer.

Second your take on getting the game to OT. They CONSTANTLY give up late goals to piss away points and if you look back at last season that was in fact what cost us the playoffs.

This aspect is causing me a meltdown already. Because it was the same thing last season. So many important games, heading into the 3rd period… either they would be tied, or at some point in the 3rd become tied, and the Sabres seemingly give up the next goal so often. And then it ends with a regulation loss and no points. We’ve already seen it this year, Islanders, Calgary, Montreal and now New Jersey.  If they get two of those games to OT and lose it’s still 2 huge points.  Oh well, I shouldn’t get so worked up. it will be the exact same ending to a season 12 years running. It’s not a big surprise.

13 straight years of this. Unprecedented. Depressing. We literally never have a good hockey team while other teams have rebuilt twice in the same time period.

I always lament the same thing. We’ve seen other clubs, many of them, have up cycles where they are really solid and make the playoffs for a few years. Down cycles where they miss for a couple years, rebuild and make the playoffs for a few more years, go back down, etc..  New Jersey is another example.  Meanwhile Buffalo is the only club that just stays down, for eternity! The fans here deserve so much better.

2 of 3 games now that the Sabres were buzzing all over the other team's net in the 2nd having come into the period tied and they weren't able to pull away.  The puck luck will start breaking their way soon, but they need to make that happen.

Because it's too deflating to give up that go ahead goal early in the 3rd after having dominated stretches of the 2nd.

And they just flat out have to play better in the 3rd.  At least 3 in a row that they got dominated (on the scoreboard definitely and realistically on the ice as well).  Coaches have to figure that issue out and soon.

When the opponent makes that big push in the 3rd to get that tie breaking goal or put the game away, the Sabres have no ability to stop it. That’s a really bad sign.  Top flight goal tending would help and could steal some points, but the Sabres just lose too many games in regulation as of today. and they will not make the playoffs from what i can see.
