Baffles me that the Sabres don’t come out flying every game with all their skilled guys. Other than a proven goalie i’m told every summer we have as much talent if not more on the roster and in the pipeline as most teams.
-
Except for a couple games, the Sabres look worse this year. You knew they would not be able to keep up that crazy scoring pace of last season, but figured goalie and D would be better and they would still have puck possession. Not seeing it.

"direct and decisive" isn't simple English?
Donny is too analytical and calm. Tonight is one of those games he needs to shout and crack some skulls.

They won’t say it publicly but i think these players will be panicking soon. They are tied with San Jose and Pittsburgh for the most home losses. They just can’t be Top 5 in that category again if they hope to make the wild card. They aren’t going to be as good on the road as they were last year.

You would think not making the playoffs for what seems like 50 years, the Sabres would be the most desperate team every game, especially at home. But they suck. They haven’t played all that well for the season if you ask me. Maybe 2 solid games out of 11.

Regulation home losses are simply the reason this club cannot get over the hump. Until they win or at least get points in the majority of home games keep booking tee times for April.

NHL Network game only so i can’t watch.

This Petgrave guy is a scumbag and that's being nice. There's a video circulating from a decade+ ago when he played for the Niagara Ice Dogs in the OHL. With his back to the opponent, he used his leg/skate as a weapon to flip the guy as he was cutting towards the net. I can only imagine how many times he did reckless stuff like that not caught on video.

The shots were lopsided in part because the Sabres got the early 3rd period lead and then deemphasized offense coupled with Philly pushing harder. I have a problem with Buffalo backing off too much in games when they have a slim lead. They end up in our own zone for most of the period and the goalie has to make some great saves. It's human nature to back off with a lead but Granato needs to get this right.

Winning games on the road you don’t deserve is a great sign of progress. There are nights where that’s the way it has to be. But let’s skate better Friday.
They definitely have to get a few of those to balance out some of the home losses where the Sabres dominate the play.

Philly was 2-2 the other night at home and Carolina scored late in third to win. I’m sure this will be a point of emphasis in the Flyers locker room.
-
Once again, we talked about this after New Jersey, it will be tied in the third period. They so often give up the next goal or late goal and lose in regulation. OT is mandatory tonight if they can’t win before then. Need at least a point out of this. Bear down.

After seeing the recent tragedy I can’t for the life of me understand why he lifts his leg into the neck area of the player. It was akin to a karate kick towards the head area. Very strange indeed.
Yeah i agree. Didn’t seek it out but i ran across a loop of the incident on Twitter. It does appear that the guy did a kicking motion. Probably didn’t intend to slash his throat but i can’t imagine why he’d even want to kick him in the equipment. So the kicking coupled with the guys sketchy background it doesn’t seem far fetched at all that this was not an accident.

Well that sucks for Comrie. But you know what they say,…. when you have 3 goalies you have none. or something like that.
So good luck to UPL and Levi for the next few weeks.

I rarely bet on hockey but i’ll gladly pay for a Sabres win today. So in my twisted logic i’m putting $20 on the Avs straight up to win. Emotional hedge bet. Not a big payout but hope i lose and the Sabres win.

Wouldn't it be something if Cooley came in and did phenomenal.
"One goalie, to rule them all"
🤣
I mean it seems like every other team over the past 12 years has had a goalie in their system that comes out of nowhere to be better at the NHL level than in the minors. The Sabres are certainly overdue for a little goalie luck!

No.
There's no help coming this season.
Buckle up and settle in.
It's a scary thought to buckle up on what is basically an airliner that nosediving to earth.
Still hoping that Levi can fly us out of this....

UPL wasn't the reason we lost but in a way he was. None of those goals were on him but it was clear watching live that everything went downhill when he came in. When teams have no confidence in their goalies it affects their play and here it clearly did. Playing most of the game with 5 defensemen also ended up a killer.
Second your take on getting the game to OT. They CONSTANTLY give up late goals to piss away points and if you look back at last season that was in fact what cost us the playoffs.
This aspect is causing me a meltdown already. Because it was the same thing last season. So many important games, heading into the 3rd period… either they would be tied, or at some point in the 3rd become tied, and the Sabres seemingly give up the next goal so often. And then it ends with a regulation loss and no points. We’ve already seen it this year, Islanders, Calgary, Montreal and now New Jersey. If they get two of those games to OT and lose it’s still 2 huge points. Oh well, I shouldn’t get so worked up. it will be the exact same ending to a season 12 years running. It’s not a big surprise.

Once they got that one chance and tied the game 4-4, you have to get that game to OT. That’s all that matters and they just lack urgency or a killer instinct or any of that intangible stuff that the good teams have.

13 straight years of this. Unprecedented. Depressing. We literally never have a good hockey team while other teams have rebuilt twice in the same time period.
I always lament the same thing. We’ve seen other clubs, many of them, have up cycles where they are really solid and make the playoffs for a few years. Down cycles where they miss for a couple years, rebuild and make the playoffs for a few more years, go back down, etc.. New Jersey is another example. Meanwhile Buffalo is the only club that just stays down, for eternity! The fans here deserve so much better.

2 of 3 games now that the Sabres were buzzing all over the other team's net in the 2nd having come into the period tied and they weren't able to pull away. The puck luck will start breaking their way soon, but they need to make that happen.
Because it's too deflating to give up that go ahead goal early in the 3rd after having dominated stretches of the 2nd.
And they just flat out have to play better in the 3rd. At least 3 in a row that they got dominated (on the scoreboard definitely and realistically on the ice as well). Coaches have to figure that issue out and soon.
When the opponent makes that big push in the 3rd to get that tie breaking goal or put the game away, the Sabres have no ability to stop it. That’s a really bad sign. Top flight goal tending would help and could steal some points, but the Sabres just lose too many games in regulation as of today. and they will not make the playoffs from what i can see.
-
Too many regulation losses already. i see no change from last year. None.

How's Jonas Johansson doing this season? You know, the other goalie we chased outta town last year?
Goaltenders are weird.
Tampa probably plays a superb defensive system or keeps possession more on offense. I’m sure they do.
-
Shame. At the end of the day, Not getting the big save late, and not being able to get tough games like this to OT, will cost Sabres a playoff chance. You have to earn some OT points, even the loser point. And Buffalo rarely does it seems.
