  1. Well, lets see...

The Islanders have played Carolina twice (yeah the team WE just beat) and were outshot 43 - 27 against the now 1-3 Rangers. I'm not worried - their schedule has been the reverse of our schedule. Give it time.

    No worries.

Edit: there -> their (oops - typing to fast)

  2. When a team is this bad there is nothing to like. Not one area of this team is better since he took over. Not one player is improved. That is the sign of good coach.

Also, has one veteran ever spoke about him highly? I may have missed a comment here or there but I don't recall at any point one player saying " coach has a great system we just need to execute" type BS. I think he could maybe be a decent HC someday but this not the situation for him. In over his head fixing this debacle.

To add to this - the makeup of this team's offensive lines are not that different from late last year and yet, it is having more trouble this year getting shots on net and pucks in the net. I would say the offensive guys have taken a step backwards. System? Preparation? Either way it is on the coach and his assistants.

  3. And if every year we hear that it is the "worst flu season on record" then either big pharma is doing a horrible job at making shots, or a fantastic job of marketing.

Agreed. I get sick of hearing that too. The worst flu season on record would have to be 1919 - it even caused the cancellation of the Stanley Cup Finals.

  4. Which one would you argue provides the best translation, or does a better job of describing the nuances of the original language?

Good question. I happen to prefer the New King James version. However, I will say that one can only get the pure context of the meaning through study or by learning Ancient Greek. I would suggest that you would need to go to http://www.blueletterbible.org and read Matthew 25 http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Mat&c=25&t=NKJV) in a few different translations. Determine which made the most sense to you and go with it.

  5.

What version are you reading? I was raised athiest but I have always wanted to read it. I just have no idea what the difference is between versions. Crosschecking, maybe you have some input as well?

I have two versions that I read between. The New King James (NKJV) and the English Standard Version (ESV). The difference between versions is basic language translation differences (in Greek, there are three different words for love and in English there is one - so how do you translate the meaning with the word?). That is the main reason there are so many versions.

  6. I brewed another version of my black ipa yesterday and got a late xmas present from a fellow homebrewer in the process. He visited family in Cleveland for Christmas and he brought me a six pack of Great Lakes Christmas Ale. I've never tried it, but based on the rave reviews here I might need to crack a few for the game tonight.

I also received a bomber of Double Jack from Firestone Walker Brewing. Damn this beer is good. It's pretty darn close to supplanting Pliny The Elder at the top of my favorite beer list. Of course both of these are west coast beers that I can only get when I travel or have friends bring some back for me.

I've only ever brewed a Porter, a Canadian Ale, and a pretty good Bass Ale clone (3x). I haven't used my brewing equipment in about 1 1/2 years and I have some nice equipment too.

If you do drink the GL Christmas Ale tonight let me know if you like it.

  7. My common beers are: Yuengling - Harp - Labatt Blue - Dortmunder Gold

My once in a while (because of cost) beers are: Froach - Dogfish Head Midas Touch - Arrogant Bastard

Every year I get Great Lakes Christmas Ale. This is by far the best seasonal beer in my opinion as I'm not crazy about many of them.

  8. 1. The sun has poked through the clouds about an hour ago for the first time in 5 days.

    2. Hockey season is on the horizon.

    3. I've finished work for one client already and should only need a couple of hours for my other client.

    4. Beer is getting cold in the fridge.

    F'N Fantastic!

  9. Is there ever a case in the job interview process where "we'll follow up in a couple weeks" DOESN'T mean "we're not interested and you'll never hear from us again"?

When I was hired by The University of Akron back in '97, I hadn't heard from them for about a month before I got the offer. I found out later that my hiring paperwork sat at the EEO office for about 3 weeks before they processed it.

  10. People who drive in Northeast Ohio without Bridgestone Blizzaks on their pickup trucks in winter!

I am also going to complain about the low quality of the youth hockey in this area, and the lack of games. I have 6 games this month to officiate. In Virginia (yes, VIRGINIA), that would be a solid weekend for me; here it's a frigging MONTH! Come on, we're in the north, play some hockey, and play some good hockey while you're at it. Note to coaches - it's not football on skates. Forearms to the head are penalties, as are hits where the puck is no longer present. Learn the damn rules before you start screaming at me, you moron!

I've been living here for 16 years now and I can't stand the apathy towards hockey in this area. It is just another item in the long list of items that makes me hate living here.

My complaint: Not being able to move away from North East Ohio. My wife and I were given (yes given) 10 1/2 acres of land and we built on it. I'm attached to the land but I hate that it is in Ohio.

  11. There is a red light not far from my house or second job that I hit every single time. It's not a major intersection but it turns red everytime I approach it. This light single handedly is responsible for 50% of my brake wear. I want to write the town about it. Hell, 75% of the time it turns red there is NOBODY crossing the intersection. One side of the intersection is apartments/condos, the other side a normal suburban neighborhood with about 15 entry/exit points. Why the hell is this light always turning red?

  12. The company software quality process. I just don't understand why a small code change ~ 5 lines of code will end up taking 3 meetings, 5 visio slides, and 1 month to complete.

Do you work at a bank? I have found that financial institutions are the worst at rapid development. I had a two day effort stretched out over 2 1/2 months because of committees and red tape.

  13. OMG PIG FLU WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!! PIIIIIIIG FLUUUUUUUU!!!!!

Look, we get it. There's a new strain of influenza, and it has taken the lives of some people. Just like, oh, every other year. Get back to reporting real news.

I smell distraction. Something else is going on right now and they are diverting our attention to something trivial.

  14. I'm not blaming the game tonight on Marty or the refs (although the refs sucked tonight). I'm blaming tonight's loss on stick handling and passing which is a statement I made about 3 weeks ago. This teams needs a refresher course in the fundamentals. Passes too far ahead, passes to far behind, passes that go 10 feet when they needed to go 15. I love to watch Max but lately he has been losing the puck trying to out manuever the opponent.

    Stick handling - ugh.

And I will say that may statement about Roy last week must be retracted. Tonight he played bigger than he is and he has been hustling the last few games.

  15. I've noticed that over the past 3 weeks the Sabres have not been crisp in their passing. They've been losing pucks in their skates and fanning on shots. I wonder if they need stick handling work. It would definitely improve their ability to close the deal. They've made a couple correct decisions to pass the puck but didn't pass it correctly. They've been either too weak on a pass and it dies before it gets to the intended target or they've been too hard and skipping past the intended receiver. They need to get back to fundamentals! Okay I'm done ranting. Go back to your previously scheduled activities.

  16. Two thoughts:

1 - Should've made a trade for some good D-men. Thanks for not pulling the trigger Darcy. Wait... edit... thanks for not pulling the gun out of the holster Darcy.

2 - I witnessed a Sabre being held right in front of the f**king referee for close to 10 seconds with no call and the split second a Sabre player does something wrong we get called on a penalty. I blame all of Boston's diving whining for this. I think the refs are being tough on the Sabres.

This team is trying too hard to make a pretty goal. Trying too hard to get in the best scoring chance. Trying too hard to make the pretty pass. They are not playing the tight vested game they played earlier this season. They seem tenative to just play. It is frustrating to watch right now!

I fear worst for next year.

  17. WOW!!! What a game. The respect that both teams had for each other was obvious, I just didn't expect it from Ottawa.

The Sabres were in a way lucky that they didn't lose because our passing was total crap and Tallinder again had trouble clearing the zone unless he skated it out himself. Good thing Miller was on tonight!

BTW, did anyone notice how Hasek ducked on Vanek's shootout shot? I don't think he expected that hard of a shot so close. Hehehe!

I'll take the two points. It's a shame we gave one point to Ottawa.
