  1. Sabres have more trouble on 5-on3's that any other team I've seen.  What a wasted opportunity.

    PTR

We got a ton of shots off on Fleury, but between him and the posts, nothing got through. That was insane goaltending. We were ripping shots from all over, and just can't get through.

    BUT........

    GOAL for Gaustad!!!!!

I didn't see the goal, because OLN was in the middle of an interview with Ed Olczyk.

  2. Just found the game. I was checking MSG and Center Ice, and figured the game just wasn't televised, but luckily I checked in here to find out it is on OLN.

I'm currently watching the Sen-Leafs game on Center Ice during the intermission.

  3. I was out with the wife watching this one at a local bar, and I echo the sentiments of everyone on this thread. We are a good team that will fight for a 7 or 8 seed, but we are just not in the class of a team like the Sens. They dominated us in pre-season, and that was no abberation. I'll be interested to see if this team can even score against Hasek all year. So far, they haven't gotten anything by him in 2 games. Hey, baby steps, I guess. This team's gotta' learn to crawl before it can walk. Still, I was hoping to see a closer game than this.

  4. Game Over!

    Buffalo 4

    Boston 1

Ryan Miller definitely gets my #1 star. He put up an amazing effort tonight and stood damn tall in that frantic 3rd period when the Bruins were peppering Miller. It really looked like the Sabres were going to let this one slip away, but Miller's goaltending kept them in this game. He looked poised and confident in there.

Awesome game. Tomorrow night is going to be another huge test of this young club.

  5. 2:00 to go and the Sabres are going on the power play for the rest of regulation. Gaustad getting an assist on Kotalik's goal with a nice little pass to release him. Good to see Paul get a point in this game. He has really played a scrappy game today.

  6. Miller just made another great save.

AND KOTALIK ON THE TURNOVER BREAKAWAY LIGHTS THE LAMP!!!!

    3-1!!!!

Huge goal after an amazing stout effort by Miller. Man, that is an absolute NAILZ goal to go back up by 2 with 3:00 to go in the game. C'mon guys, let's keep it going.

  7. Connolly gets nabbed for another penalty, and Miller just comes up with an amazing save to rob Samsonov on the power play. Man, we gotta' get this puck out of the zone. Boston is hammering Miller so far.

EDIT: Burned off the power play, but Boston is totally controlling this game right now, and the Sabres are doing all they can to clear the zone each possession.

  8. Yeah, the last goal was the result of the new icing rule. That line was dog tired and the Bruins put out their best line and took advantage right off the bat. The Sabres have put in some good shifts since, especially from the Briere line. Gotta' get that goal back, if possible.

  9. Eric Boulton scored for Atlanta tonight ... it's the new NHL! Razor's gonna wanna come back and score 20!

    ;) ;)

First 5 minutes of the third will be big ... gotta withstand that first push ...

This early power play should help. ;)

  10. Amerks update: Huge melee on the ice right now with benches cleared with 4 fights on the ice at one time. Amerks up 7-4, with 12:45 to go. Roy has 4 points in the game. Pominville having a good game too.

3rd period just underway at HSBC.

  11. Dumb penalty, but Lindy Ruff definitely has gotten this team playing more disciplined tonight. Only 2 penalties in 2 periods is not bad. The Sabres dominated that 2nd period after being out-skated and somewhat out-played in the first period. In the new NHL, a 2 goal lead is nothing, but so far, so good.

Right now, Sidney Crosby up on the penalty shot for PIT vs. Ward and Ward stones him. Carolina wins the shootout 1-0.

  12. So far, so not bad. The Bruins were doing a great job at controlling the puck in our defensive end early on, but the Sabres have made some adjustments and seem to be finally getting some offensive flow. The Dumont-Briere-Vanek line is starting to play well, also. They have gotten some quality shots on their last two shifts.

Miller has looked solid in the pipes making a key save on a Bergeron breakaway. He gave up a couple of long rebounds, but otherwise has played well. Raycroft, for Boston, has played very well for the Bruins, as well.

  13. Nice, calm stickwork by Vanek behind the net to set up that one-timer to J.P., but Raycroft saved it. The Sabres got some nice offensive flow from Briere's line on that last shift. First time in a while that they've had some nice control in the offensive zone.

Chris Taylor just poked in the puck to even things up in a wild 2nd period in Rochester. Roy and Pominville with the assists. 3-3 game in the 2nd period.

EDIT: Amerks score another quick goal, and go up 4-3! Roy is having a monster game, and may be given an assist on that goal.

  14. Miller looks good ... good thing, Sabres are getting dominated ... gotta find their legs, not skating like the opener ...

second PP coming, maybe that will help ...

Yep, huge save by Miller on that short-handed break-away. This Boston team is just controlling the tempo and play of this game.

  15. I'm multi-tasking tonight, as I'm listening to the Amerks opener streaming on my computer as they are taking on the Marlies. My son has his Dumont jersey on, and we're ready.

Sabres in their 3rd jerseys tonight. Puck just dropped.
