  1. I haven't parsed through many of the latest replies on Covid spread so I apologize if I'm not directly responding to anyone's specific question.

But I did find an interesting article yesterday on the efficacy of the vaccines with respect to Covid. Reading this implies we will need boosters every 6-12 months for the foreseeable future. The delta variant makes the vaccine about 2/3 as effective as the original strain. Additionally, vaccinated people are 5x less likely to get infected and 30x less likely to be hospitalized.

I didn’t say this prior to today, but my feeling about Ullmark was that he was a trap. We’re in a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation.

He was both our best shot to win now, but he’s not a player I would want to bet on in the long term.

Maybe this should not be considered due to the amount of cap space we have, but we go through this all the time with bad contracts then nobody cares about in the short term, in that within two years we are screaming at such bad decisions.

It's possible. But are we setting up our new core for another round of learning to lose and be gobsmacked by everybody in the meantime? A better than average goalie does still steal you wins as you build up a foundation.

We're still probably the worst team in the league but I'd rather not destroy another new core by making every game hopeless with the worst goaltending in the league to boot.

  3. You know what's crazy? It doesn't seem that long ago when we were heralding the Pegulas as saviors ... passionate fans who wanted nothing more than to bring a championship to the city.

I think they've basically just given up on the Sabres. I'm glad I'm a Bills fan so I can just pretend these other Pegulas don't exist.

In the NFL world, they're ideal owners. Hiring the best, beefing up their scouts, building the newest training facilities.

You know, last year we were thinking we made a jump with the Hall signing, thought we might actually be.... good?

This year is all gloom and doom.... watch the Sabre kids will blossom and the team will break down the playoff door.

    because Buffalo!

Even if ... there's the small matter of goalies that might disrupt this dream.

  5. Fundamentally, until we build up our scouting system and front office to be passable, we just have more of these wtf transactions to look forward to.

As happy as I was for the Risto trade value, the Rhino return feels ten times worse.

And when you're as bad as the Sabres with their skeleton scouting crew, I think you at least follow some semblance of consensus ratings for the middle rounds.

I feel like I need to do like that recently returned Bills fan and check back in 10 years.

  6. Can I just say that this type of discussion is why I love this board and not the cesspool the political forums have turned into on TBD. Even the old political thread had some wonderful conversation that shed light on why those not of my ilk believe how they do.

Thanks to all who are continuing the discussion. Mad props.

  7. These two players compliment each other well. Discuss why we should keep both on this team and on the same line.

Well besides complimenting each other from time to time ... '

    "No, Ryan, you're the greatest!"

"Oh come now, Sam, you're a star in waiting!"

I do believe they are a good complement for each other and I agree with Ink. Let's focus on adding to the team for the moment. I'm actually just glad there's something positive to be said here.
