Agreed on the right wings being ugly, but replacing Mitchell with a legitimate top 6 RW would make this team look a lot more competitive. Think of a Moulson type RW who can score 20-30 goals (not named Drew Stafford). Still very young, but at least potential enough to not get outshot by 20 each game.
Think Connoly from Tampa could be available? How about Saad from Chicago? Two teams with lots of talent and cap issues.

I think I am going to this tonight, as I was screwed out of my Phish ticket at CMAC and it's a mess out here right now.
I just wish my Father were here to go with me, and if he were, he would be going with OR without me. Lol.
He would also be as ecstatic as a little kid on Christmas morning, as they are building exactly how he had hoped they would right before he passed away. But it's hard, some of his last words to any of us were, "This is so hard to watch (2008 playoffs) because I know I will never see the Sabres play another game, let alone another game for the Stanley Cup...but I hope you do."
Well, here's to hoping I do too...here's to the future of the Sabres...and here's to you, Pops!
(I think this is our first time back there without my Father...so this could be a little emotional, I've never been without him.)
There is no reason to believe he won't be there with you. Not to get into a theological discussion but if you believe in that then he is probably still sharing your excitement.

How about a three team trade?
Buffalo gets:
Philly #1 pick in 2015
Pays 1/2 of Vinny Lacavier salary
Nashville gets:
Vinny lacavier at half salary from Philly
Philly gets:
2015 2 rd pick from Nashville
2015 2 rd pick from Buffalo (NY Islanders)
-
I get the appeal because of the potential but the maturity issues are just too much to excuse. The price that will need to be paid for this boom or bust trade is not worth it.
-
Vinny has a no-trade clause. He won't be moving as a pure salary dump.
He would need to approve it but a buyout as opposed to staying in Philly may be better option for him. He could also approve as part of a three team trade where Buffalo retains salary.
-
I keep thinking Philly is the target for trade. Take on Vinny Lecavier for buyout or trade while keeping cash. They are deep in young forward depth and could also be a possible destination for Erhoff or Hackett.

I went Miller, Miller and Briere. I just think if Miller gets them out of round one then he will have more opportunity. I only see the Blues and Canadiens advancing with the Blues going to the finals.
I almost said Moulson for the second because he just got a raw deal this year. Briere for last choice because the organization took a step back that day.

Never forget Gary Bettman worked for the NBA from 1981-1993, during the draft fixing, and would rise to third in command there.
I always thought the Crosby draft was rigged. The two stories that day were who would get Crosby and what were the Penguins going to do about funding for their new arena.
Super Mario was about to retire and the future of the Pittsburgh franchise was in question. Surprise Penguins get Crosby.

Since I'm not able to follow these prospects or project what they can become I'm curious if anyone would trade the #1 overall for Eric Stall. Rumor is he is available. I'm sure it would need to be a package of some sort but do these guys at the top of the draft project to be better than Stall?

So much for the OP's desire to talk about the best roster the Sabres might ice.
Is it reasonable to think the Sabres can re-sign Moulson? Buffalo is now woefully short of scoring wingers, as in they have none. Is Armia going to be anywhere near ready for next season?
Moulson Ennis Stewart
Foligno Hodgson Armia
Girgensons Reinhart Stafford
Flynn Konopka DiAgostini
Ehrhoff Pysyk
Myers Weber
Risto Tallinder
Not awe inspiring for sure. And depends on a scoring LW showing up in the offseason.
Not bad but how do they get to cap floor?
-
I still think maybe the Philly or Washington for Halak. I think Washington would do Neuvirth + mid round pick. At least we would have a goalie signed for next year.
-
I only care about one. He has been uber quiet since he got here, And while he plays his fiddle, Buffalo burns. Show me something, anything.....
The two things I read yesterday was that he said things would likely not happen today unless he received a significant offer and most gm's don't want to trade for a guy and then pay his salary during the break.
-
If we could trade the #1 overall for a Ryan O'Reilly or Evander Kane would you?
I ask because you hear that this draft class isn't that good and those are two very good NHL players. Also, I don't get to see a lot of junior hockey so I really have no opinion on the prospects other than what I read.
Thanks.

I think we will most likely get the Islanders pick in 2015. They are bad enough to get a top ten pick this year and in sports you have to do what will help you win today. Garth Snow can't plan on being around in 2015. A good 2014 draft though and he can strengthen his argument to stay on as GM.

I see this move as the same type of move as Joe Sacic with the Avalanche. A hockey person bringing in hockey people. Also a great PR move.
-
I think this us a great trade for the Sabres. We got the same picks as the Pominville trade but instead of two prospects we got an accomplished NHL 30 goal scorer. If the Sabres feel they cannot resign Moulson they can probably trade him at the deadline for prospects or picks.
I think this trade sends several messages too. To the players, increase the effort you can be replaced and to the rest of the league, we are ready to deal.

How the Los Angeles Kings Corsi'd their way to the NHL's elite: http://www.cbssports...-the-nhls-elite
Very interesting piece on the emerging utilization of analytics in the NHL
Good read and very frustrating that teams are winning a cup based on statistical analysis created by a Sabres coach.

I've shipped from both Anchor Bar and Duffs to my father for Christmas. Expensive but he loves it because he now lives in the south and never gets back to Buffalo.
